Two suspects taken from Lebanon to Israel for questioning, IDF says
The Israeli military has detained two people who approached troops in southern Lebanon and taken them to Israel for questioning, according to the IDF.
“Earlier today, IDF soldiers identified two suspected individuals who approached the area in which IDF soldiers are operating in southern Lebanon,” the military said in a statement to AFP. “Following the identification and in order to rule out any threat, the soldiers apprehended the suspected individuals, who were transferred to Israeli territory for further questioning.”
Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon kill 12, medical source says
Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon have killed at least 12 people on Wednesday, a Lebanese medical source said.
“The number of martyrs from the Israeli air strikes in the town of Tayr Dibba is eight, and in Deir Qanun al-Nahr it is four,” the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Earlier Wednesday, Lebanese state media reported at least four Israeli strikes on Tayr Dibba and two on Deir Qanun al-Nahr.

Strike hits centre of Sidon, south Lebanon
A strike hit the centre of the southern Lebanese city of Sidon on Wednesday, an AFP correspondent said, as Israeli attacks continue across the country’s south.
The correspondent heard an explosion in the area before seeing a car burning as rescuers and firefighters were heading to the scene.

UN to send investigators to Lebanon over potential international law violations in war
The UN human rights office will deploy a team of investigators to Lebanon next week to assess potential violations of international law by all parties during the current war in the country, UN human rights chief Volker Türk has said.
Lebanon was drawn into the wider Middle East conflict on March 2 when the Tehran-backed Hezbollah militia fired rockets at Israel in solidarity with Iran, which was under US-Israeli attack, prompting a major Israeli air and ground campaign.

Trump says Iran has taken too long to negotiate, will ‘have to pay the price’
US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that Iran is taking “too long to negotiate a deal” and that “now they will have to pay the price” in a post on his Truth Social platform.
Trump wrote: “They’ve taken too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them, now they will have to pay the price!!!”
Erdogan says Israel’s attacks on Syria, Lebanon threaten Turkey too
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has said that Israel’s attacks on Syria and Lebanon have reached a point where they also threaten Turkey, adding Israel’s “aggression” posed a threat to the whole world and must be stopped.
Speaking to lawmakers in parliament, Erdogan also said there were initiatives, led by Israel, to destabilise the Mediterranean region and warned that “nobody should chase adventures” or join Israel’s “boat of mischief”.
He said Ankara’s response to moves violating the rights of Turks and Turkish Cypriots would be met with a clear and strong response.
Tanker on fire off Oman coast, says UK maritime agency
A tanker’s engine room caught fire off the coast of Oman near the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, a UK maritime agency said, reporting two missing and one casualty.
Earlier, British maritime security company Vanguard Tech said the Palau-flagged tanker Settebello had “transmitted a distress call stating that its engine room had been struck by a missile while operating off Sohar in the Gulf of Oman” and that there was a fire onboard.
“Local authorities have reported a tanker has experienced a fire in their engine room and are on the scene assisting with the evacuation of the crew,” it said.
Netanyahu to run for re-election, his party says, after Trump raises doubts
Benjamin Netanyahu will seek re-election this year, his party announced on Wednesday, after US President Donald Trump said he wasn’t sure if the Israeli prime minister would stand again.
In a brief statement, Netanyahu’s Likud Party said he would run in the election which has not yet been formally announced but must be held by October.
Earlier, ABC News Chief Washington Correspondent Jonathan Karl posted on X that Trump had told him he did not know if Netanyahu would stand.
Iran says US strikes damage diplomatic efforts
Iran’s foreign ministry has said that the United States had damaged the ongoing international diplomatic effort to end the war, after more US strikes on targets in southern Iran.
“Unfortunately, the United States is damaging this diplomatic process through the contradictory messages it sends, its repeated shifts in positions and demands, and, worst of all, through repeated violations of the ceasefire,” foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said, in a video message carried by Iranian media.
“Any diplomatic process is damaged by the use of force and by resorting to unlawful actions on the ground.”
Water cut off for thousands of Iranians after US strikes
Thousands of Iranians in the southern port town of Sirik have lost access to drinking water after US strikes hit two reservoirs in the area, Iranian state media said Wednesday.
The US carried out strikes on the southern cities of Jask and Sirik and on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, after what Washington said was Iran’s downing of a US Army Apache helicopter over Gulf waters.
The strikes damaged two reservoirs supplying the Bemani and Kouhestak areas of Sirik town.
“Unfortunately, following this attack, 20,000 residents of the region have lost access to safe drinking water, and with temperatures ranging between 45 and 50 degrees Celsius, conditions have become extremely difficult and critical for local inhabitants,” Iran’s state television quoted local water company officials as saying.
“The destruction of these reservoirs has created a major problem for the region’s water supply network,” it added, noting that the area had insufficient groundwater to replace the damaged reservoirs.
Efforts were underway to find alternatives for villages affected in the area, according to Abdolhamid Hamzehpour, a senior water company official in the southern province of Hormozgan.
Russia says it is ‘extremely concerned’ by Middle East escalation, calls for ‘restraint’
Russia is “extremely concerned” about the latest escalation of tensions in the Middle East and is calling for “restraint,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said.
“We call on the parties to exercise restraint and immediately cease armed attacks,” Zakharova said.
The statement followed Iran’s announcement that it had targeted US bases in the Gulf in retaliation for Washington’s strikes against Iranian targets along the Strait of Hormuz.

Cargo vessel exchanges fire with armed craft off Yemen coast, British military says
A cargo vessel reported being approached by a small craft carrying six armed people about 88 nautical miles southwest of Yemen’s Balhaf on Wednesday, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said.
There was an exchange of fire between the small craft and the vessel’s armed security team, and the craft then turned away, UKMTO added.
‘Utter failure’: Iran still launching strikes despite Netanyahu’s vow to eliminate threat
