Exclusive: Mayor Zohran Mamdani Is Launching Affordable NYC-Inspired World Cup Jerseys

Mere hours after he reveled in his Knicks pulling off the biggest comeback in NBA Finals history, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has secured another major sports-related W. Just in time for the FIFA World Cup, which kicks off today across the US, Canada, and Mexico, the mayor’s office is dropping a trio of affordable NYC-inspired soccer jerseys. The jerseys were designed by Arsh Raziuddin and crafted in partnership with Mazzi Sports, a family-owned apparel studio in Brooklyn, and feature the same retro graphic style as the city’s charming World Cup campaign: There’s a soccer-ball-ified Big Apple logo over the heart and a little pigeon sitting opposite it, with “NEW YORK CITY” emblazoned across the chest and “26” on the back. There are also three bold color combos to choose from: a classic black and white; a taxi-esque yellow and black; and a blue and orange-y red that can work for cheering on the Knicks, the Mets, or the USMNT, depending on the day. Mexico’s president unveils affordable EV prototype Olinia Uno

An electric vehicle startup backed by the Mexican government has unveiled its first prototype in a ceremony featuring President Claudia Sheinbaum, who praised the project as an affordable mobility option and a showcase for homegrown engineering. A smiling Sheinbaum drove the six-seat passenger prototype, called the Olinia Uno, onto a stage inside a Mexican Air Force hangar north of Mexico City on Sunday. The president has promoted Olinia as a flagship project combining domestic manufacturing and the green transition with a push to highlight Mexico’s industrial ambitions. “For a long time, people talked about how Mexico was a place only destined to produce what other people imagined,” Sheinbaum told a crowd that included dozens of designers and engineers involved in the project. “Olinia is the proof that Mexico can go far beyond that.” Sheinbaum, a former climate scientist, has touted Olinia as a zero-emissions option for urban mobility that could help Mexico develop domestic supply chains and launch a national brand. The vehicle is designed for short city trips rather than highway use, which places …

America’s best deal on a German mid-drive e-bike just got even more affordable

America’s best deal on a German mid-drive e-bike just got even more affordable

If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to try a premium German-made mid-drive e-bike without paying premium German-made prices, Ride1Up may have just handed you one. The San Diego, California-based company has dropped the price of its Prodigy V2 to just $1,595, marking the lowest price we’ve seen yet on the bike and shaving nearly $1,000 off its usual $2,495 MSRP. That’s a pretty remarkable figure considering the Prodigy V2 is built around a German-engineered Brose mid-drive motor, a drivetrain that normally appears on e-bikes costing significantly more. In fact, at $1,595, this may be one of the most affordable German mid-drive e-bikes currently available anywhere in the world. Advertisement – scroll for more content Ride1Up has built much of its reputation around finding ways to deliver higher-end components at prices that undercut the pricier premium competition, and the Prodigy V2 is perhaps one of the company’s best examples of that strategy. At the heart of the bike is the Brose TF Sprinter mid-drive motor, capable of delivering up to 90 Nm of torque. Unlike …

There’s been a lot of movement in Hisense’s RGB sector in the past few weeks. First, news broke that Hisense quietly slashed prices of its flagship UR9 RGB TV by nearly 40 percent just weeks after launch — presumably because the UR9 line was way too expensive compared to the rest of the RGB market. The day before the June 2 announcement, a post to the r/Hisense subreddit had users wondering when the UR8 was coming. It’s been quite the highly awaited budget model, considering the RGB prices we’ve seen on the LG Micro RGB Evo, Sony Bravia II 7 and Bravia II 9 True RGB TVs, and Samsung’s flagship R95H Micro …

The ‘Permacession’ Theory Suggests Everyone Is Unhappy Even Though The Economy Isn’t That Bad

The ‘Permacession’ Theory Suggests Everyone Is Unhappy Even Though The Economy Isn’t That Bad

In a piece for The Atlantic, economics and politics journalist Annie Lowrey introduced the idea of a “permacession,” or a permanent recession in which Americans are convinced the economy is constantly on life support even when it’s not.  For a few years now, “vibecession” has been a buzzword. The term was coined by economic writer Kyla Scanlon to describe an economy that isn’t doing all that bad, but people still aren’t thrilled about it because they aren’t seeing improvements in their own lives. In other words, they’re getting bad vibes. The question is, do the facts really back that up? The ‘permacession’ theory says Americans’ persistent pessimism has created an environment in which they can’t actually recognize how strong the economy is. Lowrey has written about the “vibecession” extensively, but she feels like that isn’t the right descriptor to use anymore since “vibes are temporary.” Instead, she thinks that something deeper is going on that she can’t quite explain. “Americans are expressing some of the deepest, broadest, and stubbornest economic pessimism ever recorded,” she wrote. …
