Tottenham get their pre-season tour of New Zealand and Australia underway on Sunday morning with Roberto De Zerbi’s side facing Auckland FC. Spurs, who have played one pre-season friendly already as they beat MK Dons on Wednesday, will play three games down under ahead of their Premier League opener against Brentford on 22 August. De Zerbi joined Tottenham in March and he managed to help Spurs avoid a disastrous relegation to the Championship thanks to a win against Everton on the final day of the season. The Tottenham hierarchy have backed their new manager heavily in the transfer market after keeping them up with Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka all joining for a total fee of around £230m. Auckland won the A-League Grand Final last season after beating Sydney FC 1-0 and they also won the OFC Professional League for the first time. Their domestic campaign gets underway in October. Scoring his first goal for Auckland in his 58th match, midfielder Howieson’s 60th-minute volley from well outside the area took a deflection before fizzing past wrong-footed goalkeeper Harrison Devenish-Meares. That was all the hosts needed to secure the trophy in their second season, sending most of a sold-out crowd of 28,374 at Auckland’s Mount Smart Stadium into ecstasy. “I’m so stoked. This was our goal from the start of the season.
