Bad Magpie Is a Delightful Game About Destructively Avoiding Your Emotions

Bad Magpie Is a Delightful Game About Destructively Avoiding Your Emotions

Good games obscure their emotional underpinnings with enjoyable gameplay, but the best let you be a little bastard while you do it. Bad Magpie, the debut game from London-based indie studio Milktooth, follows the proud tradition of players controlling animals committing misdemeanor chaos, like Untitled Goose Game. They’re joyful exercises in cutting loose and making life minorly worse for everyone else. But there’s a thematic throughline to Bad Magpie that ties into a very human experience.  “The idea [for Bad Magpie] came out of a very sad place: One of us was going through heartbreak, another of us had a loss in our family, and we thought it would be interesting to have a game that isn’t allegory for that grief but, in particular, the avoidance coming out of grief, not being able to face up to an emotional truth,” said Daisy Fernandez, design director at Milktooth. The idea of a magpie — a corvid that’s cousin to crows and known for playfulness as well as using tools — desperately collecting shiny things to avoid …

How Bad Is Foreign Influence In America’s Nonprofit Universe?

How Bad Is Foreign Influence In America’s Nonprofit Universe?

In February, the House Ways and Means Committee held a hearing titled “Foreign Influence in American Nonprofits: Unmasking Threats from Beijing and Beyond.” While Democrats deflected and tried to make the hearing about MAGA and free speech, the underlying topic remains important. 🧵Senate Hearing Raises Alarms Over FOREIGN INFLUENCE Looting American Pockets 📢 During a Senate subcommittee testimony chaired by @HawleyMO, @seamusbruner connected government fraud, nonprofit funding networks, migrant-based money transfers from U.S. to overseas, and the… pic.twitter.com/4V7B6n8CKf — Government Accountability Institute (@Govt_Acct_Inst) February 11, 2026 So how bad is foreign influence in America’s nonprofit universe? It turns out: very bad. The Muslim Brotherhood Earlier this week, the New York Post published a story reporting that CAIR was under investigation by HHS for alleged fraud. The report referred to CAIR receiving $30 million in taxpayer dollars to resettle Afghan refugees, with little proof of how the money was spent. In HHS letters to the governors of California and Washington, the states in which the alleged fraud occurred, the agency stated that it had been informed that …

Android apps track you by default — this free app tells you how bad it really is

Android apps track you by default — this free app tells you how bad it really is

I know that the apps on my smartphone are full of trackers. It’s an unfortunate part of modern life that most of what we do online or otherwise feeds straight into data collection for big business. Then I found a free Android app that lays it all out and explains exactly what all the apps on your Android device are tracking. Exodus Privacy is free, incredibly simple to use, and for me, was a timely reminder that I’ve got unused apps going back years lurking — and potentially getting away with more than I realize. Related This hidden Android setting blocks ads across every single app without a VPN Ad-free internet is no-longer a subscription you have to pay for. Every Android app comes with baggage But did you really agree to it? I’ve worked in tech for years and covered the security and privacy beat for long enough that, deep down, I know the majority of Android apps are tracking you in some way. It’s an unfortunate side-effect of receiving most apps for free; …

People Who Refuse To Take Accountability Use 11 Tired Excuses For Their Bad Behavior

People Who Refuse To Take Accountability Use 11 Tired Excuses For Their Bad Behavior

We all make mistakes, but there are people who would rather blame others than take accountability for their mistakes. This does enormous harm to their relationships, often just to protect their ego.  These people are motivated by fear and anxiety, grasping at shallow and even aggressive tactics to make sure they come out on top. To spot these people, keep an eye out for these common phrases.  People who refuse to take accountability use 11 tired excuses for their bad behavior 1. ‘You didn’t need to get offended’ NDAB Creativity | Shutterstock If you know someone who refuses to take accountability, you’ve definitely heard this excuse before. It’s a classic counter-attack with blame-shifting to avoid having to be accountable for what they said or did. According to a student dissertation from Brigham Young University, people who feel judged in the face of a disagreement or argument may rely on phrases like this one to shift blame and deny accountability. They “counter-attack” the person expressing their needs or calling out misbehavior trying to paint themselves as the …

The Good, Bad, and Ugly When Parents Sharent Online

The Good, Bad, and Ugly When Parents Sharent Online

Recently, someone I know lost their phone, which stored all their photos of their two young children. She was clearly upset about this. A couple of weeks later, she declared: “Thank goodness for Facebook!” She was elated to retrieve some of the lost pictures from her Facebook photo library. She was even more pleased that she had been an avid sharer of pictures of her kids. Basically, she had been busy engaging in sharenting, and she was all in favour of it. Sharenting is a term combining sharing and parenting and refers to parents who share photos, videos, and general information about their children online. It is not uncommon, as in the above example, and it has been suggested that most parents in the U.S. have engaged in sharenting. One estimate shows that parents share around 1500 pictures of their child on social media before the child reaches age 5. Many parents use sharenting to connect with others, such as family or online parenting groups. Perhaps to seek out advice or social support when they …

Bad Bunny meets Pope Leo in Madrid

BARCELONA, Spain (RNS) — Pope Leo XIV and Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny met privately on Monday (June 8) at the Bernabéu stadium in Madrid, where 80,000 Catholics from Spanish dioceses had gathered to see the pope. Bad Bunny attended a portion of the papal event from a booth in the stadium, organizers said. During their brief meeting, they exchanged a few words and took photos, according to the Vatican. Bad Bunny was accompanied by a few friends and family members. The Vatican confirmed the meeting but did not offer further details or images of the encounter. A meeting between the two had been rumored for weeks. Pope Leo is in Spain for a weeklong trip to the country and spent the first four days in Madrid, where Bad Bunny is performing.  Cardinal José Cobo Cano, the archbishop of Madrid, had said that a meeting between them would be an opportunity to “build bridges,” adding that such things are kept “very secret” and that “surprises are surprises.” The spokesperson for the archdiocese, Sara de la …

Pope Leo XIV Acknowledges Stiff Competition With Bad Bunny in Spain and Weighs in on Soccer Rivalry

ABOARD THE PAPAL PLANE (AP) — Pope Leo XIV ackowledged Saturday he is competing for attention with another VIP in Madrid this weekend, and the pontiff declared his preference in Spain’s biggest soccer rivalry. Puerto Rican sensation Bad Bunny is performing two shows of his 10-concert Spanish tour in the capital. Speaking to reporters aboard the papal plane before his arrival in Madrid on Saturday morning, Leo acknowledged the appeal of Bad Bunny when he referred to anecdotal reports of a newfound spiritual awakening, especially among young people in Spain. The American pope said he understood that young adults are sensing a lack of meaning in their lives and mused that his visit might help “awaken” something in them. “If they are confronted with the question ‘Do you want to go see Bad Bunny or do you want to go to see the pope?’ I think many will see Bad Bunny,” Leo said. “But I think there will also be a few here to see the pope. And that says something, you know.” He’s wasn’t …
