Party dresses to muddy boots: Kate Moss’s best fashion moments | Fashion

There are models, there are supermodels and then there is Kate Moss. Scouted aged 14 while waiting for a flight at New York’s JFK airport, the Londoner quickly went on to define the fashion aesthetic of the 90s. There have been countless magazine covers including 43 issues of British Vogue, scads of advertising campaigns spanning Calvin Klein to Chanel and Tom Ford and hundreds of catwalk moments including, most recently, a thong-baring appearance at Demna’s Gucci debut. She’s been sung about by Pete Doherty and Playboi Carti, sculpted by Marc Quinn and painted by Chuck Close, Banksy and Lucian Freud. The latter is now the subject of a new film, Moss & Freud. Directed by James Lucas and executive produced by Moss, it explores the model’s friendship with the then – 80-year-old painter during 2002 when she sat, pregnant, for him. That lifesize naked portrait later sold for £3.5m. Ahead of the film’s release on Friday, our writers reflect on their Mossy memories from the nineties to now. ‘She looks like a renaissance cherub’ Moody …

John Cornyn Lost With His Boots Off

John Cornyn Lost With His Boots Off

Just like nearly every other Republican has gone once Donald Trump decided to terminate their political career, John Cornyn went quietly. The senator from Texas, one of his party’s most effective fundraisers and influential legislators, devoted his losing campaign and most of the past decade in politics to a wan effort to portray himself as the president’s faithful servant. He tweeted out a photo of himself reading The Art of the Deal, introduced a bill to rename a highway the “Trump Interstate,” and even set up a campaign page reiterating his fealty that boasted, among other facts, that he had a “more than 99.2% voting record with President Trump—higher than Ted Cruz.” Ah, but that 0.8 percent made all the difference. Cornyn had warned in 2016 that Trump’s presidential nomination could hurt the party. He voted to certify Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory. And he privately urged Trump not to run in 2024. Even though Cornyn opposed both impeachments of Trump, ultimately backed him in the 2024 primaries, faithfully advanced his legislative agenda, and supported …

Boots Riley’s zany love letter to theft

Boots Riley’s zany love letter to theft

A few months back, I made the mistake of trying to buy a product from Target, a store where products are sold — allegedly. It was barely noon, but I’d already flown halfway across the country on an early flight to visit my parents for the holidays, and spent two hours in a rental car driving from the airport. Exhaustion was setting in, but the deodorant I’d packed needed to be replaced, so I found myself roaming the body care aisles, wincing under the fluorescent lights as my patience rapidly grew thinner. It was unusually difficult to locate my brand, which I eventually realized was because it was hiding inside a plastic lock box, just in case a band of perfume-pilfering deodorant delinquents happened to breeze through town. Accessorizing the lock box was a button with bold white lettering screaming at me to “PUSH FOR ASSISTANCE.” I did as told, and was met with a robotic voice echoing the button’s sentiment every five seconds. Help was on the way, God’s voice assured me. It was not. …

How Boots Riley and Don Cheadle Stole Blockbuster Season

How Boots Riley and Don Cheadle Stole Blockbuster Season

Don, have you seen that sort of political momentum come from anything you’ve worked on or been a part of? Cheadle: My entry point to a lot of activism that I got involved with came after Hotel Rwanda, and having congressmen and women, Democrats and Republicans, come to a screening at MGM. [Then US House of Representatives members] Ed Royce and, I want to say, Donald Payne asked me to accompany them on a congressional delegation to Chad, because we couldn’t get into Sudan or Darfur, to discuss what was happening there, and they thought that the film was—not a one to one, but it had a lot of similar dynamics to what was happening inside of Sudan, and they wanted to bring attention to it, and they said they think this film could do it, and would you come with us? And I was like, Of course. So I went and Paul Rusesabagina, who I played in the movie, came, and John Prendergast. We all went and then snuck into Darfur after the congressmen …

Famous Aussie Jacob Elordi Keeps Wearing Australia’s Most Famous Boots

Famous Aussie Jacob Elordi Keeps Wearing Australia’s Most Famous Boots

When Jacob Elordi isn’t dressing like a designer-clad movie star, the 28-year-old actor mostly sticks to a uniform of weathered cool-guy staples. Elordi’s off-duty style skews charmingly beach bum-adjacent, fittingly enough for a guy who splits his time between Brisbane and Los Angeles. Case in point: During a recent jaunt around LA in between press obligations for his role as Nate Jacobs in Euphoria, Elordi dressed less like an Oscar nominee and more like an average Joe with a strong case of the shoppies. Elordi, of course, is a prominent Bottega Veneta ambassador, and he commits to the job with typical gusto, on and off the screen. (Euphoria‘s new costume designer, Natasha Newman-Thomas, recently told GQ that his character’s penchant for BV was merely happy coincidence.) On this particular outing, though, Elordi eschewed the megawatt designer duds in favor of a Cookie Monster-blue drop-shoulder sweatshirt, a cropped T-shirt, and light-wash jeans held up by a braided western belt. In place of his usual jumbo Andiamo? A humble shopping bag from James Perse. To anchor all …

Justin Bieber’s Coachella Weekend 2 Fit Looked Straight Outta Peak TRL

Justin Bieber’s Coachella Weekend 2 Fit Looked Straight Outta Peak TRL

Justin Bieber has been dressing like he’s got something to prove lately. Not in a try-hard way, but in that locked-in, “this just makes sense to me” kinda way. And on the second weekend of Coachella, he pulled up in a fit that looked like it was swiped straight from the early-00s hip-hop playbook. Think TRL-era MTV, peak mixtape circuit, slightly baggy everything. At the center of it all was a sleeveless hoodie with big, linebacker-y shoulder pads. It was designed by LA-based artist Greg Ross, who has a reputation for almost bodybuilder-coded shapes, taking everyday staples and pushing them into something a little more more sculptural. On the Canadian pop star, it hit that sweet spot: strong, a bit aggressive, but still casual enough to throw on without overthinking it. Kevin Mazur/Getty Images Beyond the hoodie swap, Bieber’s fit wasn’t terribly different from what he sported the weekend prior. On his feet, he once again rocked Loewe’s Bobby Bag desert boots. Released as part of the label’s latest collection, the curved cutouts (inspired by …

How to Wear Cowboy Boots: 9 Ways to Saddle Up in the Footwear of the Moment

How to Wear Cowboy Boots: 9 Ways to Saddle Up in the Footwear of the Moment

If the mainstream’s recent embrace of cowboycore has taught us anything, it’s that you don’t have to go full Costner cosplay to capture some of the hardened allure of western wear. It helps, of course, if you really know how to wear cowboy boots. That’s one way to dip a toe into the movement: a pair of the official state footwear of Texas. Evolved from the equestrian boots popularized in Spain and Mexico, with a slim toe and raised heel meant to slide in and out of the stirrups of a saddle, the first American cowboy boots are believed to have originated in Texas or Kansas in the late 1800s, around the same time Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis were stitching together their first pair of blue jeans a few states westward. Apple, meet pie. But finishing off a Canadian Tuxedo isn’t the only way to wear cowboy boots. Here’s how to wear cowboy boots right, according to style icons like Pharrell Williams, Billy Bob Thornton, and Ralph Lauren. Keep Things (Mostly) Classic Pharrell Williams, …

Timothée Chalamet’s Boot Game Just Got Even More Niche

Timothée Chalamet’s Boot Game Just Got Even More Niche

Timothée Chalamet loves a good boot. More specifically, he loves a good American boot–think Red Wings and Timberlands. These are big hitters. The classics everyone knows. But at CinemaCon on Tuesday, during a presentation for the upcoming Dune: Part Three, he swerved. Instead of pulling up in his usuals, the Oscar nominee went a bit deeper: a pair of Visvim Virgils that only a certain kind of fashion guy could clock instantly. The what? We hear you. Visvim isn’t exactly mainstream. Founded by Hiroki Nakamura back in the early ’00s, the Japanese label has built a rep on obsessive craftsmanship and a slightly spiritual approach to clothing: natural dyes, hand-finished details, and lots and lots of references to vintage Americana. It’s the kind of brand that doesn’t have to scream for attention. You either know it or you don’t. And if you do, you probably care a lot about things like stitch density and midsole construction. Best Lightweight Hiking Boots (2026): La Sportiva, Salomon, Keen, and More

Best Lightweight Hiking Boots (2026): La Sportiva, Salomon, Keen, and More

The Targhee collection, named after a hardy American breed of sheep known for their resiliency and rather fine wool, was first launched in 2005, with the intention of being versatile, robust, and comfortable from the get-go. I’ve walked in many pairs over the years, and they remain a dependable option I’m happy to recommend, but they’ve never been the most aesthetically pleasing. But with the new Targhee Apex, they’ve gone all-in with a trail running Gorpcore look that actually works. I know that looks aren’t important when you’re scrambling over rocks and through puddles, but in the high-fashion world of the outdoors these days, pretty and practical must go hand in hand. Enough fashion chat though, because regardless of style, these are wonderful waterproof trail shoes that weigh just 0.75 pounds each. They feel light without being fragile, the footbed is generous, allowing my feet to spread comfortably over a long day, and there’s plenty of stability through the midsole. Grip is reassuring on mixed terrain too, and the outsole digs in confidently on both …
