Lisa Havilah, CEO of Sydney’s Powerhouse Parramatta, has stepped down ten weeks before its opening. A €4 million ($4.7 million) diamond necklace has been stolen from the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna.  A £71 million ($96.4 million) Rembrandt portrait has been placed under an export bar in the United Kingdom. The Headlines  TROUBLE DOWN UNDER. The Art Newspaper reported that Lisa Havilah, the chief executive overseeing Sydney’s much-anticipated Powerhouse Parramatta museum, has stepped aside just ten weeks before its scheduled opening on November 7. Havilah, who has led the institution since 2018, will stand aside while the New South Wales government investigates governance and procurement matters. NSW government architect Abbie Galvin will serve as interim CEO, with former Sydney Opera House chief executive Louise Herron acting as strategic adviser. The $915 million museum, described as one of Australia’s most significant cultural projects in decades, is expected to open as planned. Patrick Holland has been officially tapped to continue running the now merged and expanded U.K. business of Banijay Entertainment as executive chairman and CEO of Banijay U.K. following the recent merger with All3Media, the company said on Thursday. Reporting to Banijay Entertainment CEO Marco Bassetti, Holland’s “strategic leadership responsibilities now span the majority of the combined U.K. portfolio, Banijay U.K., which in its entirety comprises around 40 creative labels,” the firm said. “Producing some of the country’s most-renowned new and returning titles, the business works with all major broadcasters, streamers and platforms and is responsible for over 2000 hours of content annually.” Holland joined Banijay U.K. in May 2022 from the BBC, where he was director, factual, arts & classical music, after serving as channel controller of BBC Two since 2017. London-based film and TV studio John Gore Studios, which is behind the likes of the Toronto-bound Onwards and Sideways, with Laura Linney and Rhys Ifans starring as two people being diagnosed with Parkinson’s, said on Tuesday that Hilary Strong is stepping down as CEO and that it will reorganize. Trump Media interim CEO Kevin McGurn on Monday defended his company offering faster access to President Donald Trump’s Truth Social posts, and said more customers have signed up for the pricey and controversial service. “We’re getting into the mid-teens now, and we’re climbing,” McGurn told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” when asked if more companies had started paying for the service dubbed Truth API, which costs up to $100,000 per month. That’s an increase from two weeks earlier, when McGurn said in Trump Media’s first-ever quarterly earnings call that “more than 10” customer agreements had been signed. The service went live on Aug. 1. Truth API has garnered intense scrutiny from critics who argue that since the president often makes market-moving announcements through his Truth Social account, the service effectively lets deep-pocketed firms trade on valuable information before the rest of the public. U.S. District Court Judge Nusrat Choudhury, in her Thursday decision, concluded that Michael Jeffries “clearly possesses a rational and factual understanding of the proceedings” and is a “reasonably intelligent person and skilled communicator” following his stay at a federal prison hospital in Butner, North Carolina. The federal judge on Long Island, New York, said she reviewed testimony and written reports from medical experts and listened to hours of phone calls Jeffries made to his romantic partner, lawyers and others while in custody. “His presentation and responses in evaluations following his commitment to Butner and his phone calls show that he understands the structure of the criminal legal system, courtroom procedures, the functions of the various participants, the nature and purpose of the proceedings, and key legal concepts,” Choudhury wrote. Jeffries’ lawyer declined to comment. “We do not comment on the Judge’s rulings,” Brian Bieber wrote in an email. “The case, and all related issues, will be tried inside the courtroom – not in the media.” Jeffries, 82, is currently free on bond.
