ICE protesters who interrupted Minnesota church service won’t face state charges, prosecutor says

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Dozens of anti-immigration enforcement protesters who face federal criminal charges after they interrupted a Minnesota church service in January, accompanied by former CNN journalist Don Lemon, will not additionally face state charges, a prosecutor said Wednesday. St. Paul City Attorney Irene Kao said in a statement that “current evidence is insufficient to meet that standard for criminal charges under Minnesota state statutes,” a determination heavily criticized by the lead pastor at Cities Church, where the protest occurred. “This decision should not be interpreted as an endorsement of unlawful behavior or public disorder,” Kao said. “The right to peacefully protest is protected, as is the right to exercise one’s religious beliefs. Balancing these equally important rights is paramount to our decision today.” The U.S. Justice Department brought federal civil rights charges against 39 people, including Lemon and another independent journalist, after a livestreamed video showed a group of people interrupting services at Cities Church on Jan. 18 by chanting “ICE out” and “Justice for Renee Good.” Good, a 37-year-old mother of …

Ebola Outbreak: CNN Correspondent Reports From Inside Democratic Republic of Congo

Ebola Outbreak: CNN Correspondent Reports From Inside Democratic Republic of Congo

“So on my first day here, I’m sitting in the car and I hear this song,” Clarissa Ward says from Bunia, the capital of the province that’s the epicenter of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s latest Ebola epidemic. “Ebola, Ebola,” the CNN journalist sings, recreating the tune she heard on the radio. “Is this a song about Ebola?” she recalls asking her driver, thrown off by its upbeat sound. The driver explained that the song was a public safety announcement, offering directions for social distancing during the outbreak. The radio, Ward says, is one of the country’s most effective tools for disseminating public health information in a region where about 80% of adults are literate and only 22% have access to the internet. Those limited communication channels are among the many obstacles the DRC faces as it fights its 17th—and potentially largest—Ebola outbreak. USAID has been devastated, the World Health Organization is underfunded, and unlike its predecessor, the Zaire strain, this new Bundibugyo Ebola virus has no vaccine or treatment. Diagnostic testing is now …

Laurie Segall in action working on Mr Deepfakes investigation (L), Paris Hilton and Segall poster for series (R). Picture: Mostly Human Media Former CNN editor-at-large and technology correspondent Laurie Segall said she chose to launch her investigative docuseries on Tiktok because it “lends itself to the format” of “rabbit hole” storytelling. The 14-part series, launched with socialite and businesswoman Paris Hilton, explores the personal impact of explicit deepfakes on Tiktok and details the journey of unmasking an anonymous operator of one of the web’s largest deepfake abuse platforms. Deepfake abuse involves taking real images of victims and using AI to make it appear that the person is acting out situations they never have – in this case, sexually explicit scenes. “Searching for Mr Deepfakes” is a series of one to five minute videos – totalling around 40 minutes of content and was created by Segall’s company Mostly Human Media and Hilton’s 11:11 Media and premiered on 27 May after three years of reporting on the case. The series sees Segall and a team of hackers, …

How AI overviews are killing publisher traffic by topic data

How AI overviews are killing publisher traffic by topic data

Google AI Overviews result for ‘hantavirus symptoms’ query. Below the AIO and first result there is a Top Stories box including articles from the BBC, CNN and The Independent Health is the topic vertical most vulnerable to losing clicks as a result of Google’s AI Overviews, according to new Sistrix data shared with Press Gazette. Looking at data from three months at the start of 2026, Sistrix estimates that health sections on major news brands will have seen links to articles supplanted by an AI-written summary 72% of the time in Google search results. Sistrix has found that for keywords where an AI Overview appears at the top of Google’s search results, the average rate of people clicking on the first search result drops from 27% to 11%, meaning a clickthrough decline of almost 60%. Healthline was the fastest-falling major news website in the UK in March, losing 48% of its audience year on year according to Ipsos iris. The second most heavily-affected vertical was tech (where AI overviews appear 47% of the time) followed …

Mexico’s Sheinbaum Denies Reports of CIA Operations There While CNN Stands by Report

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Wednesday denied a CNN report that the CIA was carrying out deadly operations in Mexican territory, accusing the U.S.-based news organization of attempting to “hurt the government and the people of Mexico.” CNN reported Tuesday that the CIA facilitated a targeted assassination of a member of the Sinaloa cartel on a highway outside Mexico City, fueling a firestorm in Mexico. The New York Times later reported that Mexican forces carried out the attack and the CIA provided planning and support. Sheinbaum called the CNN report a “lie.” Asked about the New York Times report during her morning press briefing, she called it “a fiction the size of the universe.” Liz Lyons, a spokesperson for the CIA, also lambasted the CNN report, posting on X that “this is false and salacious reporting that serves as nothing more than a PR campaign for the cartels and puts American lives at risk.” A CNN spokesperson said the CIA had been presented with details of the report prior to publication …

Press freedoms group probe Larry Ellison’s reported promise to fire CNN anchors

Press freedoms group probe Larry Ellison’s reported promise to fire CNN anchors

Two press freedom groups that own shares in Paramount Skydance are demanding to see the company’s books and internal documents, citing allegations that the company’s leaders may have promised favors to the White House to win approval for Paramount’s deal to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery. The letter, sent Thursday to Paramount Chief Legal Officer Makan Delrahim, says that media reports alleging that Paramount owner David Ellison and others promised favors to the Trump administration “create credible concern that Paramount leadership has offered, solicited, or effectuated a corrupt exchange,” which the groups argue would “constitute a breach of fiduciary duties” and open the company up to a “range of potential civil and criminal penalties.” The letter cites Delaware law that allows stockholders to inspect the company’s books and records “for any proper purpose.” Paramount declined to comment on the letter. Among the issues raised in the letter are promises reportedly made by David Ellison and his father, Oracle billionaire Larry Ellison, that they would make “sweeping” changes at the news network CNN, which is owned by …

Wall Street Journal story on Trump and Epstein took six months and 20 staff

Wall Street Journal editor-in-chief Emma Tucker and Mill Media founder Joshi Herrmann both appearing at Sir Harry Evans Investigative Journalism Summit in London on 6 May 2026. Pictures: Reuters/Chris J Ratcliffe Wall Street Journal editor-in-chief Emma Tucker has said her team “ran towards the fire” with their reporting linking Donald Trump to Epstein’s birthday book – but that “at least” his legal threat came after publication and not before. Trump attempted to claim $10bn in damages over reporting that said he had sent a bawdy birthday card to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. The lawsuit was dismissed in April as a judge found he had not proved the WSJ had acted with actual malice as required under US defamation law. Speaking at Truth Tellers, The Sir Harry Evans Investigative Journalism Summit in London on Wednesday, Tucker joked that the story had caused “a whole world of pain”. She said: “It’s a really good example of why the kind of journalism that we’re all endeavouring to keep alive and focus on is challenged, because it took an …

CNN Ted Turner’s eerie end of the world signoff sparks prophecy fears | World | News

A resurfaced CNN clip featuring the late Ted Turner has led some viewers to believe that a chilling prophecy may now be unfolding. Following the passing of the 87 year old who founded CNN, footage from his past was unearthed, with one clip immediately igniting questions amongst social media users. The so-called “Turner Doomsday Video,” is a one-minute clip produced ahead of CNN’s 1980 launch and was solely intended to be broadcast should civilisation collapse. In the brief clip, Turner pledged that CNN would remain on air until the very end of the world. In the message, he said, “Barring satellite problems, we won’t be signing off until the world ends. “We’ll be on, and we will cover the end of the world, live, and that will be our last event. We’ll play the National Anthem only one time, on the first of June [the day CNN launched], and when the end of the world comes, we’ll play ‘Nearer My God To Thee’ before we sign off,” he continued. The footage, which left numerous viewers …
