SINGAPORE: A couple was arrested on Tuesday (Aug 11) after drugs and drug paraphernalia were found in a flat in Marsiling where their two young sons were present. The 25-year-old man and 24-year-old woman, both Singaporeans, were arrested after the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) raided a residential unit in the vicinity of Marsiling Lane in the early hours of Tuesday. A small amount of drugs, including cannabis, Ice, ecstasy, as well as drug paraphernalia, were seized from various parts of the unit, including the master bedroom where the children were present, CNB said in a media release on Thursday. The boys were aged three years and seven months. “Appropriate arrangements were made to ensure that the welfare of the children was taken care of, and the children have been placed in the care of their next-of-kin,” said CNB.  Source link

In one incident, more than two dozen people were hospitalized after many were found unresponsive, lying in the streets or on sidewalks. No one died, but some came close. Follow-up testing found that the street drugs contained high levels of N-methylclonazepam, a benzodiazepine that operates similarly to Xanax or Valium. Like opioids, benzodiazepines suppress breathing. When they’re combined, the risk of overdose goes up. And benzodiazepines don’t respond to opioid overdose reversal drugs. Afterward, the Baltimore Harm Reduction Coalition created test strips specifically for benzodiazepines. The group distributed them — along with test strips that identify other harmful adulterants, such as fentanyl, xylazine, and medetomidine — at clinics and neighborhood events. A British fugitive who fled to Spain after being charged over an £800,000 drugs operation has been jailed for five years after being extradited back to the UK. Callum Fox, 29, was sentenced for directing serious and organised crime linked to a major drug supply network in Paisley, Renfrewshire. The case dates back to July 6, 2022, when Police Scotland officers raided a flat on Albion Street in Paisley under warrant and seized drugs with an estimated street value of £800,000. Information uncovered during the investigation led detectives to Fox, who they identified as playing a leading role in organising the large-scale supply and distribution of illegal drugs. Following extensive enquiries, Fox was arrested by the Police Service of Northern Ireland in August 2024 and returned to Scotland, where he was charged with directing others in drug dealing. After appearing in court, he was released on bail but later absconded, fleeing to Spain in a bid to evade justice. Working alongside the National Crime Agency and Spanish law enforcement authorities, Police Scotland tracked Fox down …

GARDP funded and led the pivotal clinical trial, the largest gonorrhoea trial ever undertaken. Enrolling 930 patients across 16 sites in Belgium, the Netherlands, South Africa, Thailand and the US, the trial generated evidence reflecting real-world use. This model also allows access planning to begin long before regulatory approval. GARDP worked with India-based Dr Reddy’s Laboratories on registration and commercialisation, helping lay the groundwork for rapid introduction in high burden countries. Working closely with regulators is equally important. The Thai FDA’s decision to grant priority review helped make Thailand only the second country in the world to approve the drug and is a great example on how national regulators can take decisions that will allow their populations to get early access. With zoliflodacin now approved in the US and Thailand under the brand name Nuzolvence, and preparations underway in other countries, GARDP is committed to ensuring the antibiotic reaches the people who need it most as quickly as possible.
