Japan’s pet care industry booms as ‘fur babies’ outnumber infants | Business and Economy News

Tokyo, Japan – While walking his toy poodle in the park near his home in Ikeda, Gifu Prefecture, Shin Ohta had an idea. “My dog often stops walking during our strolls. I would carry him every time, but his weight of nearly 5kg [11lbs] started to become a real burden,” Ohta told Al Jazeera. Recommended Stories list of 4 itemsend of list “I knew there had to be a better way. Ohta works in sales for Japan’s oldest baby carrier manufacturer, Lucky Industries, which has produced more than 40 million baby carriers since its founding in 1934. He has spent his career making baby carriers, but after that walk, he wondered if the same expertise could be applied to pets. After consulting a veterinarian to ensure the design was viable for dogs, Ohta helped Lucky Industries launch its first line of dog hip carriers in 2022: Nu-i. Earlier this year, the company joined dozens of other brands at Tokyo’s annual Interpets conference, a showcase of Japan’s rapidly growing pet care market. During the first weekend …

Why The Universe Assigned Your Cat To You, According To The Color Of Its Fur

A lot of cat owners believe that their animals came into their lives for a reason, not just by chance. There’s usually something special about the connection that they feel with their fur baby that just makes it feel like it was all meant to be. The Universe definitely works in ways that can be hard to understand, but are never an accident or coincidence. In fact, the connection you feel with your cat can sometimes even be traced to the color of their fur. In an Instagram post, a spiritual guide named Mariya explained that each coat color carries its own kind of energy. Learning about the details of your cat’s fur can end up making you see your pet in an entirely different light. How fur is fighting an EU ban – POLITICO

How fur is fighting an EU ban – POLITICO

“Speak to Fendi. Speak to Louis Vuitton. Speak to Dior,” he said. “They’re all using fur, they’re all selling fur.” Like Moser, Oaten came to the sector from outside — a former Liberal Democrat MP, headhunted after leaving Westminster in 2010 to help modernize an industry he said he barely knew existed.  What he found surprised him. Not a cottage trade but a complex global supply chain, running from farms in Finland and Greece through processing workshops in Italy, auction houses in Helsinki, manufacturers in Hong Kong, and finally to boutiques in London, Paris and Rome. Younger buyers have been drawn to vintage fur through sustainability thinking: natural materials, longevity, the antithesis of fast fashion. | Jean-Pierre Muller/AFP via Getty Images That complexity is part of his answer to the decline narrative. Saga Furs, in Helsinki, is now the only major European auction house still operating. A single skin bought there might travel through four countries before it becomes a coat. The raw export figures cited by critics, Oaten argued, miss most of the value. …

Feathers have replaced fur – how to wear the trending trim of the season

Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more The past two winters saw fur dominate wardrobes, flooding the high-street in the form of coats, stoles, hats and trims. While it is the obvious texture to go for during the colder months, the runways of autumn/winter 2026 are all showcasing a new statement finish: feathers. Appearing on everything from tailored coats to evening dresses and even shoes; they offer the same sense of movement and sense of luxury, but with a lighter, perhaps more playful feel. Luxury stylist Angela Kyte believes the shift reflects both cultural change and fashion’s natural evolution. “A lot of people are understandably moving away from fur,” she explains, despite most nowadays being faux on the runway, the connotations are still complex. “Designers still love that sense of drama …

Real or faux, vintage or new, fur is no longer hiding

Real or faux, vintage or new, fur is no longer hiding

In the heart of Paris, in front of the entrance to a fashion school, two students took a cigarette break, fur coats draped over their shoulders. “It’s vintage,” one of them warned when approached. “I bought it at a thrift store. I wonder who used to own it. Who knows, maybe Marguerite Duras or Françoise Sagan?” This winter, the streets of the capital are teeming with fur coats – often brightly colored, sometimes oversized – worn by people of all ages. Yet, until recently, wearing such attire openly in the city was considered socially shameful. Today, when the fur is real, it most often comes from pieces found secondhand or taken out of closets (or at least, that is what those wearing it are quick to clarify when asked about their outfit). Occasionally, but this is rarer, it is new, purchased from a handful of maisons that continue to uphold traditional craftsmanship. More often, it is imitation: The fur-free market, which encompasses a wide range of realities and price points depending on the brand, is …

NParks looking into allegations that man cut community cat’s fur and whiskers in Everton Park

SINGAPORE: The National Parks Board (NParks) is looking into allegations that a man held down a black community cat and cut its fur and whiskers with a pair of scissors. Closed-circuit television footage was posted on Instagram by user @timmytheblackcat_ on Sunday (Feb 8), a day after the incident. The video showed a man dressed in a brown T-shirt and shorts approaching the cat, wearing gloves and holding a pair of scissors. He can be seen holding the cat down behind the wall and using the scissors. The cat then broke free and the man pursued the animal. Another post on the Instagram account, which is purportedly run by the community cat’s carer, showed clumps of fur in the cat’s basket and on the ground. It also showed the cat’s left whiskers had apparently been cut. CNA has contacted the carer for more details. In response to CNA’s queries, NParks’ director of enforcement and investigation Joshua Teoh said: “NParks takes all feedback received from the public seriously, and investigates it thoroughly if there is sufficient …
