A little-known Miami-based startup called Subquadratic emerged from stealth on Tuesday with a sweeping claim: that it has built the first large language model to fully escape the mathematical constraint that has defined — and limited — every major AI system since 2017. The company claims its first model, SubQ 1M-Preview, is the first LLM built on a fully subquadratic architecture — one where compute grows linearly with context length. If that claim holds, it would be a genuine inflection point in how AI systems scale. At 12 million tokens, the company says, its architecture reduces attention compute by almost 1,000 times compared to other frontier models — a figure that, if validated independently, would dwarf the efficiency gains of any existing approach. Kia is off to a record start in the US in 2026, led by strong demand for hybrid and electric vehicles. The three-row EV9 and EV6 gained momentum last month, but the EV3 will likely be Kia’s biggest hit yet. Kia EV sales rise in April ahead of upcoming EV3 launch Kia sold just over 72,000 vehicles in the US last month. While that’s down 3.3% from April 2025 before the industry changes took effect, Kia is still on a record-setting pace in 2026. Through the first four months of the year, Kia sold 279,718 vehicles, 2% more than in the prior year. Kia credited its electrified vehicles, including hybrids and EVs, for the growth. Several hybrid SUVs, including the new Telluride, Sportage, and Sorento, set new April records, while sales of Kia’s three-row electric SUV, the EV9, rebounded by 481% to 1,349 units. His final day at Meta was last week, and he has since joined Thinking Machines Lab. His move to Thinking Machines Lab (TML) comes as the AI startup expands on multiple fronts. TML just signed a multibillion-dollar cloud deal with Google, giving it access to Nvidia’s latest GB300 chips and making it one of the first startups to run on the hardware. The agreement, announced this past Tuesday at Google Cloud Next, follows an earlier partnership with Nvidia, and puts TML in the same infrastructure tier as Anthropic and Meta.
