Kyle MacLachlan on Being ‘A Regular Guy from Yakima’ Who’s ‘Drawn to Darkness’

Do you feel like you ever figured it out? A version of him. Yeah, I think so. But there’s always problems. Either he’s a murderer or impotent. There’s always things. It’s like, “Oh, he has another problem besides that.” The romantic hero, he’s perfect, but maybe he’s got some other sort of major issue he’s kind of getting through. When you watch Timothée Chalamet now in Dune, do you see yourself? I don’t, really, but when I watched the movies, I was very nostalgic. I felt like I was revisiting something. The scene where he puts his hand in the pain box, it was almost word for word, because it’s from the book. I’m like, “Oh God, I remember that day and I remember working with Siân Phillips and I remember the costume and then how the camera moved and the choices I made walking in.” I mean, everything came kind of flooding back in a very unexpected way. And then I was like, “Oh, that would have been a great scene. I wish we’d …

That Peking Duck Guy is the backyard pop-up that’s now a celebrity sensation

On a quiet residential street in a hillside neighborhood in South Pasadena, Dr. Hong Pham roasts Cantonese duck in his backyard, sending the sweet and smoky smell of poultry fat wafting into the streets and across lawns of the surrounding houses. “My next-door neighbor had no idea that we were roasting duck this whole time until we invited him over for my birthday party,” says Pham, who works as a radiologist at Kaiser by day and as a professional duck roaster the rest of the time, noting that no one seems to mind the occasional aroma. Dr. Hong Pham, known as That Peking Duck Guy, demonstrates how he prepares dry-aged Cantonese duck for pop-ups in his backyard. (Christina House / Los Angeles Times) The scent leads to a gate marked with his signature orange duck logo, a piece of art his eldest daughter sketched that now serves as the emblem of Pham’s increasingly popular duck pop-up known as “That Peking Duck Guy.” After more than a year of roasting duck for his friends and family, …

The Pope’s AI Guy Is Worried About ‘Cartel’ Behavior Among Big Labs

The Pope’s AI Guy Is Worried About ‘Cartel’ Behavior Among Big Labs

Recently, warnings from researchers inside the world’s largest artificial intelligence labs about the rapid pace of development have led to panic about the possibility that the technology could extinguish humanity. Those warnings are predicated on the idea that—propelled by ferocious competition and a rivalry between the US and China—labs are barreling toward superintelligent models whose abilities will far surpass those of humans. But according to Father Paolo Benanti, a priest who advises the Catholic Church on AI, the handwaving over superintelligence distracts from the need for open debate about how to constrain the companies building the technology. By casting the problem as so complex that only they can solve it, he says, the big labs exclude everyone else from the conversation. “Ethics cannot be something that belongs to the board of trustees of a company. It’s something that has to be balanced, mitigated in debate in the public square.” Benanti tells WIRED. “We need democratic regulation.” In an essay published on the heels of the safety warnings, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei called for new AI …

Lanterns Star Nathan Fillion Was Never Worried Guy Gardner Would Work

Lanterns Star Nathan Fillion Was Never Worried Guy Gardner Would Work

[This story contains spoilers for Lanterns episode six, “Bad Optics.”] When Lanterns first announced itself as an earthy riff on True Detective, Training Day and Banshee, some fans questioned whether Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern from Superman (2025) would fit such a markedly different tone. James Gunn, the latter film’s director and co-CEO of DC Studios, has long said that the DCU will not have a house style. Like the comics, each character can reflect the distinct tone of one particular story while adapting to the look and feel of a completely different tale elsewhere in the same universe. Even so, the gap between Fillion’s ring-powered man “of the cloth,” Guy Gardner, complete with his pumpkin-pie haircut, and the more cavalier Hal Jordan and austere John Stewart — Jordan’s former Green Lantern trainee — is a considerable one. Fillion never worried that Gardner would be a square peg in a round hole, but he did wonder how showrunner Chris Mundy, alongside co-creators Damon Lindelof and Tom King, would walk the tonal tightrope. “I didn’t have any …

The Gentlemen Star Ray Winstone’s Guy Ritchie Feud Explained

Given Ray Winstone’s background in the gangster movie genre, it’s hard to believe that his work in Netflix’s The Gentlemen marks his first time collaborating with director Guy Ritchie. Back in 2024, following the release of season one, Ray told Men’s Health magazine that he and Guy’s paths had actually first crossed years earlier, when he almost landed a role in Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels. However, this didn’t end up happening, with the British actor admitting that he and the filmmaker had a major fall-out around this time. “We were younger kids, arguing, and kind of fell out,” he recalled, admitting that he continued to watch Guy’s career blossoming from afar. “It’s a shame, because over the years I watched his films and, you know, begrudgingly liked them,” he joked. Ray Winstone at the premiere of The Gentlemen season two earlier this month During a subsequent interview with the same magazine published in September, Ray revealed that mutual friends had encouraged the two men to meet up and clear the air, which is …

The Gentlemen season two review – Stay away Meghan, Guy Ritchie’s writing is frankly atrocious

Get the latest entertainment news, reviews and star-studded interviews with our Independent Culture email Get the latest entertainment news with our free Culture newsletter Get the latest entertainment news with our free Culture newsletter Guy Ritchie, the British film director, made his name with blackly funny movies, like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, about the grimy criminal underworld. But, given he was raised among the aristocracy (both of his parents remarried peers of the realm), it was perhaps only a matter of time before he combined his fantasy with his personal history. That vision is The Gentlemen: a show that invites us to believe that a hereditary peer is actually hard as nails. Somehow, that rarefied premise has resonated with viewers, and the show returns this week for a second season on Netflix. The Duke of Halstead aka Eddie (Theo James) and Susie (Kaya Scodelario) are now running the empire of her incarcerated father, Bobby Glass (Ray Winstone). But is it enough for a member of the British aristocracy to be a …

Danny Boyle on new film Ink in Venice Guy Pearce, Jack O’Connell

Danny Boyle on new film Ink in Venice Guy Pearce, Jack O’Connell

Rupert Murdoch and the world of British tabloid journalism were in the spotlight in Venice on Tuesday as Danny Boyle presented his new film Ink, which opens the 83rd Biennale Wednesday night. The film, adapted from James Graham’s stage play, depicts Murdoch’s entry into the British newspaper scene, when he acquired the then-failing tabloid The Sun in 1969. Hiring Larry Lamb as editor, the two combined far-right political reporting and populist rabble to turn the paper into a dark force in British media. Murdoch would take the lessons learned at The Sun and apply them to build his U.S. media empire with The New York Post and Fox News. Guy Pearce plays Murdoch. Jack O’Connell (Sinners) plays Lamb. Claire Foy (The Crown, Women Talking) co-stars as Jules Davies, an amalgam of female executives who worked under Lamb at The Sun and a character new to the film adaptation. Boyle said during a press conference that he was careful, as with the stage version not to “monsterize” Rupert Murdoch “because he represented at the time [a] …

Exclusive: Tom Brady on His New Gucci Campaign—and Becoming a Leather Pants Guy at 49

What was the experience like working with Demna? He’s obviously a very talented guy, and I got a chance to see the professionalism at work, shooting the campaign, and doing the fittings prior to the event, and then even on the day of. I’m always intrigued by people who are really great at what they do, and I’m always trying to learn what they do that’s different than everybody else. Obviously, there’s a vision, but there’s also relentless attention to detail and a sense of perfectionism, and I saw that in everyone involved in the show. I was like, “Hey, you know, I think I’ll pop this jacket open a little bit as I walk,” and [Demna] said, “No, no, no, we’re just going to do it like this. Just trust me. It looks great.” So I said, “Okay, I trust you.” Brady walking in Gucci’s Times Square runway show in May. ANGELA WEISS/Getty Images Was that your first time wearing leather on leather?
