Pratt, 42, finished third in the June 2 primary race, according to Monday polling data from the Associated Press. He broke his social media silence Tuesday by posting a cryptic photo of a lone duck sailing across a body of water at sunset. He then posted a brief message Thursday to X, seemingly aimed at his supporters: “Are they done counting yet?” Technically, votes are still being counted in California. While more data is expected to release Thursday, the results are not expected to drastically alter the tally, which currently has incumbent Mayor Karen Bass leading, followed by progressive city council member Nithya Raman. Los Angeles police homicide detectives believe the slaying of a family of four, including a 6-day-old baby, in a quiet San Fernando Valley neighborhood was the result of a murder-suicide, authorities said. Officers discovered two adults and two young children with fatal gunshot wounds inside their North Hills home Wednesday after being called to the scene around 7:50 p.m. Share via Close extra sharing options Evidence initially gathered at the crime scene suggested it was the mother who shot the man and two children before dying by suicide, according to law enforcement sources. The victims were identified as Ella Basmajian, 6 days old, Alec Basmajian, 2; Khajag Basmajian, 31; and a woman in her 30s whose name was not released pending the notification of her family, according to the Los Angeles County medical examiner. “This is an absolute tragedy, and given the number of deceased, the Robbery-Homicide [Division] is handling the investigation,” said Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Thousands of holes are appearing in the Pennine hills, as part of efforts to improve carbon storage by restoring damaged peatland. Peat itself is carbon rich and so as it grows it will help to capture the CO₂ that is produced by industrial fossil fuel use that is warming the atmosphere. Meanwhile, damaged or drained peatlands turn into a carbon source, releasing greenhouses gases themselves. About 15% of the world’s peatlands have been drained, making these kind of restoration projects essential. But now a new project is attempting to bring these wetlands back to life. On Holcombe Moor in the West Pennines, 3,000 bunds were created in 2021, with a further 700 in 2024 as part of Natural England’s Nature for Climate Peatland Grant Scheme. Improvements are already starting to be seen. What’s the history here? Death Valley National Park’s ephemeral spring superblooms get most of the attention, but another national park in California has its own impressive floral show this year. Redwood National Park in northern California is awash in a purple riverbank lupine (Lupinus rivularis) superbloom. It was first spotted earlier in May and is expected to last through the end of the month.  The park six hours north of San Francisco is home to over 30 species of plants, including to the state’s famous redwood trees—the tallest trees in the world.
