John Oliver Mocks Trump for Insulting Pope

John Oliver Mocks Trump for Insulting Pope

After a couple weeks off, John Oliver returned with a new episode of Last Week Tonight on Sunday, mocking Donald Trump for attacking Pope Leo XIV. Several days ago, the Pope weighed in on the Iran war, saying that “whoever is a disciple of Christ, the Prince of Peace, never stands on the side of those who yesterday wielded the sword and today drop bombs.” Noted Oliver: “It was one of a series of statements that made Trump lose his shit.” The Last Week Tonight host then pointed to a lengthy post that Trump made on Truth Social that began with the statement that the Pope is “weak on crime.”  Which, Oliver said, “in terms of insults, just doesn’t work. It’s like saying this possum is weak on Balkan geography: OK, but who gives a shit? It’s not a possum’s job to correctly place Bosnia and Herzegovina on a map. Her job is to eat garbage, hang upside down and, by this evidence, fuck,” he joked, showing a photo of possums caring for multiple offspring. …

Kemi Badenoch accused of insulting armed forces for saying RAF ‘hanging around’ in the Middle East | UK News

The leader of the Conservative Party is facing calls to apologise after she suggested the UK military are “just hanging around” rather than taking the necessary action in the Middle East. Kemi Badenoch said there was a need to reduce the capability of Iran to attack British bases, adding that the UK is currently just “catching arrows”. Defence Secretary John Healey said her comments “insults the men and women of our Armed Forces” and that she should apologise. On Saturday, the leader of the Opposition said she was “not going to apologise” for criticising the government’s refusal to order the RAF to target Iranian missile launchers, rather than intercepting rockets and drones once they’re in the air. While she didn’t directly refer to her “hanging around” remark, she hit out at Mr Healey, saying she would never criticise British troops or service personnel. Andy Burnham Slams Jim Ratcliffe Over ‘Insulting’ Migrant Claim

Andy Burnham Slams Jim Ratcliffe Over ‘Insulting’ Migrant Claim

Andy Burnham has joined the growing condemnation Manchester United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe’s shocking claim that the UK is “being colonised” by immigrants. The mayor of Greater Manchester said the billionaire’s “inaccurate, insulting, inflammatory” remarks should be withdrawn. It comes after prime minister Keir Starmer also criticised Ratcliffe for his “offensive and wrong” comments, and urged him to apologise. The row began after Ratcliffe, the founder and chairman of petrochemical giant Ineos, told Sky News on Wednesday that Britain’s population had increased by 12 million since 2020. The real figure is closer to three million. He said: “You can’t have an economy with nine million people on benefits and huge levels of immigrants coming in. “I mean, the UK is being colonised. It’s costing too much money. The UK has been colonised by immigrants.” Burnham slammed the remarks in a social media statement, saying the comments “go against everything for which Manchester has traditionally stood: a place where people of all races, faiths and none have pulled together over centuries to build our city and our …

Seth Meyers responds to Trump insulting CNN correspondent Kaitlan Collins

Donald Trump’s sexist treatment of female journalists continues, with the U.S. president insulting CNN White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins during a press conference on Tuesday. The journalist, doing her job, asked Trump about the Epstein files and what he would say to survivors of the convicted sex offender — to which the president responded with a string of insults, ending with, “I don’t think I’ve seen you smile.” “She’s asking you about a notorious sex trafficking ring that the world’s wealthiest and most powerful people are connected to,” said Seth Meyers during his Late Night segment on Trump’s behaviour on Thursday night. “It’s not her fault you’re in a bad mood because the grilled cheese you made for lunch is bumping up against the hamburger in your belly full of Diet Coke. ‘Daily Show’ responds to Trump insulting CNN correspondent Kaitlan Collins

Donald Trump has been insulting female journalists again, this time CNN White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins, who had the audacity to do her job and ask the president about the Epstein files at a recent press conference — leading Trump to respond, “I don’t think I’ve seen you smile.” “Damn, that is messed up,” says Daily Show host Michael Kosta in the clip above. “Can I talk to the president alone, for just a second? Hey, uh, DJ, few thought. I don’t know if there’s ever a time to tell a reporter to smile, but I’m almost positive it’s not when she’s asking you about sex trafficking victims.” Kosta goes on to play a clip of Trump saying he thinks “it’s really time for the country to get on to something else.” “Yeah, of course you want to move on to something else,” says Kosta. “I would too if I was in the Epstein files thousands of times. I feel the same way when the IRS tries to audit me. Hey guys, I appreciate your …

Angry Sir Keir Starmer loses patience with Donald Trump over ‘insulting’ NATO troops remarks | Politics News

I have rarely seen Sir Keir Starmer angry. He is a politician who keeps his emotions buttoned up – in public, at least. But he was clearly brimming with anger as he called US President Donald Trump out for his “insulting and frankly appalling” remarks over non-US troops that served in Afghanistan. The prime minister, in his strongest rebuke yet to Mr Trump, was highly critical of his claim that NATO troops in Afghanistan “stayed a little off the front lines”. For the record, 1,160 non-US coalition soldiers were killed in Afghanistan, and thousands more were wounded, some suffering life-changing injuries. …

Keir Starmer rages at Trump’s ‘insulting and appalling’ attack on UK veterans | Politics | News

The president also claimed America had “never needed” its NATO partners, despite being the only member state to have ever invoked the alliance’s “all for one, and one for all” clause, in the wake of 9/11. His remarks have drawn widespread condemnation from across the political spectrum in the UK, with critics pointing to both the number of UK deaths in Afghanistan and highlighting Mr Trump’s avoidance of military service in Vietnam. Speaking in Downing Street, Sir Keir paid tribute to the 457 British personnel who died in Afghanistan, and those who were injured. He said: “I consider President Trump’s remarks to be insulting and frankly appalling and I am not surprised they have caused such hurt to the loved ones of those who were killed or injured and, in fact, across the country.” Sir Keir said he would apologise if he had said the words used by Mr Trump. In response to comments from Diane Dernie, mother of severely injured veteran Ben Parkinson, he said: “I’ve made my position clear, and what I say …
