Bard President Leon Botstein (Finally) Resigns, Following Epstein Revelations

Leon Botstein, who has led Bard College since 1975 and shaped it into one of the art world’s most influential liberal arts institutions, announced Friday that he will retire, after an independent report found he had not been “fully accurate” in his public accounts of his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, the New York Times reported. The review, conducted by the law firm WilmerHale and commissioned by Bard’s board of trustees, was released Friday alongside Botstein’s announcement that he will step down as president on June 30. Related Articles The findings did not identify illegal conduct on Botstein’s part, but concluded that his relationship with Epstein—which included visits, payments, personal messages, and a joint watch purchase worth $56,000—raised serious concerns about his leadership and judgment. In the case of the watch, Botsein, a watch collector, had kept the watch for nearly a year before Epstein demanded that he return it, or pay him to cover the cost. Botstein’s retirement is a consequential moment for the art world: Bard is home to the Center …

Jeffrey Epstein ties spur Wexner Foundation alums to start survivor fund

(RNS) — Rachel Faulkner was working at a Jewish nonprofit that advocates for gender equity when she was selected for a prestigious, three-year professional development fellowship through the Wexner Foundation. Established by retail billionaire Leslie Wexner, the foundation headquartered in New Albany, Ohio, had been highly regarded for its competitive and rigorous fellowships that train midcareer Jewish leaders, both clergy and lay. Faulkner said she had heard that Wexner had ties to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who once was Wexner’s financial manager, when she accepted the fellowship in 2022. But she was not aware of the extent of the two men’s collaboration. Especially after Wexner’s congressional testimony in February on the heels of the Epstein files’ release, she said, she has now felt the need to distance herself from the foundation and to make amends for her association with Wexner’s foundation. Earlier this month, Faulkner and a handful of other Wexner alumni launched a fund to help survivors of sexual violence and exploitation. The Ashru Fund’s first goal is to raise $100,000 for two nonprofits …

Charles on a mission: Can king’s state visit salvage US-UK ties? – The Debate

Call it the royal trump card: King Charles dispatched to Washington on a state visit at the lowest point in the Special Relationship in at least seven decades. We’ll ask if catering to Donald Trump’s enthusiasm for the British crown can dispel the bad blood over tariffs, the war in Iran… and repeated jibes by the U-S president to make Canada the 51st state, Canada a Commonwealth member whose head of state is the same Charles the Third invited to address Congress and feted at a state dinner. Does the successor to Queen Elizabeth have what it takes to keep a poker face and stick to the script prepared by his prime minister? All it takes is a hot mic or a raised eyebrow for the media covering the four-day visit to go into overdrive. Then of course, there’s the matter of the king’s brother, the former prince Andrew who’s been criminally indicted following the same Epstein files revelations that brought down UK ambassador to the United States Peter Mandelson. Coincidence of the calendar has Keir …

Melania Trump’s Facial Expressions During the WHCD Shooting Are the First Time We’ve Seen Her Really Emote

Melania Trump’s Facial Expressions During the WHCD Shooting Are the First Time We’ve Seen Her Really Emote

No wonder that moment at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner has been replayed so often over the last few days. It felt like we were seeing, for the first time, something that Melania has been hiding from us. I’m sure I’m not the only one who watched the footage over and over, mesmerized by this glimpse of genuine emotion: terror. Sitting on the dais between her husband and pregnant White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, the first lady appears to be engrossed in conversation. The evening’s entertainer, mentalist Oz Pearlman, hovers over them, trying to guess the name Leavitt has chosen for her unborn child. The moment that shots are heard, Melania stops, mid-conversation. Her back stiffens, and her usually stoic face is visibly gripped by fear. While Trump placidly looks around, seemingly unaware and unbothered, Melania asks, “What happened?” She appears to be the first at her table to dive underneath it. Throughout modern history, first ladies have often served as the empathetic, emotive counterpart to their husbands, who need to remain more manly …

British MPs vote on whether to probe PM Starmer over Mandelson hire

British MPs vote on whether to probe PM Starmer over Mandelson hire

Britain’s parliament will vote on Tuesday over a possible inquiry into Prime Minister Keir Starmer, looking at whether he misled the House of Commons over the appointment of former US ambassador Peter Mandelson, the Times newspaper ‌reported. Any such inquiry could have serious implications for Starmer’s future. He has so far resisted pressure to quit over his decision to hire ‌Mandelson, but if found to have knowingly misled parliament his position would likely become untenable. Read moreStarmer says unaware of security lapse when appointing Mandelson UK envoy The Times reported that House of Commons Speaker Lindsay Hoyle would approve a request for parliament to debate and vote upon whether the Committee ‌of Privileges should look into the matter. Mandelson was fired by Starmer last September after his relationship with the late US sex offender Jeffrey ‌Epstein was found to be deeper than previously known. That has raised doubts about Starmer’s judgment in hiring him, exacerbated by the revelation that a security vetting body had described the appointment as a borderline case and that it was …

Sarah Ferguson ‘seeking refuge with friends’ after fleeing her Austrian hideaway

Sarah Ferguson is reportedly seeking refuge with friends after fleeing her secret Austrian hideaway last week, following the publication of pictures of her near the resort. The former Duchess of York, 66, was staying in a £2,000-a-night apartment at the Mayrlife wellness spa in Altaussee, near Salzburg. It is understood that Sarah mostly kept to her suite as she waited out the media storm following the release of the Epstein Files, and ordered room service, far away from communal areas such as the lobby and poolside. But after her location was tracked down by The Sun, Fergie fled the spa and is understood to be depending upon her network of international contacts as she avoids the media, The Daily Mail reports. A source told the newspaper: “Sarah has good friends. People who know her well are happy to help her. She won’t be left with nowhere to go.” The ex-duchess is also said to be dreading the prospect of a US subpoena over her links to the late paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein. She was described …

Fergie flees Alpines after being exposed: ‘She wants to breathe’ | Royal | News

Sarah Ferguson is urgently searching for a new hiding place after her secret Austrian retreat was uncovered — as she braces for the possibility of being served with legal papers over the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. The former royal, 66, has been working the phones since the weekend, sources say, desperately seeking a new bolthole after photographs taken near her Alpine sanctuary were published last week, blowing her cover. Ferguson had been staying at a luxury £2,000-a-night apartment at the Mayrlife wellness spa in Altaussee, near Salzburg — checking in nearly a month ago and barely leaving her first-floor two-bedroom chalet overlooking the lake. She was never reportedly seen on the resort’s walking trails, the lakeside or its clay tennis courts, ordered all her meals via room service and kept contact with the outside world to a bare minimum. She is now believed to have moved on from the retreat and will depend on wealthy contacts for shelter. How was Fergie’s hideaway funded? The question of how Ferguson has been financing her extended stay at the …

‘Sarah Ferguson is sending message during ski resort stay – here’s what it is’ | Royal | News

Sarah’s location had remained a mystery since she was repeatedly mentioned in a tranche of documents released by the US Department of Justice concerning the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Her Austrian retreat has been characterised as possessing “everything you’d need for a lengthy stay”. On the Daily Mail’s Palace Confidential podcast, the publication’s Editor-at-Large Richard Kay suggests Sarah’s appearance conveyed a “message” that she wished to stay under-the-radar. He said: “Sarah has finally emerged. We knew she would at some stage and we’ve been hunting for her high and low over recent months. “She has been holed up in Austria at a health clinic, one she has visited before. And living rather comfortably in a £2,000-a-night chalet. “What has she been doing? That is the big mystery. She was photographed getting out of a large vehicle with blacked out windows and she didn’t actually look much like the Fergie we’re familiar with. “Her red hair was covered up with a baseball cap, she was wearing spectacles, dare I say it, she looked rather dowdy. …

Art Students Support Bid to Remove Leon Black’s Name from Art Center

The removal of a controversial artwork in the exhibition “Storage Room,” which was curated by art students Erik Siegel and Angeles Juarez-Ruiz, is causing quite the stir beyond the walls of Dartmouth College’s Black Family Visual Arts Center (BFVAC). The art center opened on Dartmouth’s campus in 2012, thanks to a $48 million gift from billionaire financier and art collector—and 1973 Dartmouth alum—Leon Black and his wife Debra, whose friendship and business dealings with Jeffrey Epstein are well documented. Black stepped down as the board chair of the Museum of Modern Art in 2021, after three years in the role. He has remained on the museum’s board, however, and as recently as in March of this year, former MoMA director Glenn Lowery referred to Black as a “solid trustee.” Related Articles The artwork in question, titled Something Rotten and attributed to Siegel and fellow art student Roan Wade, is made up of 20 moldy beef sticks arranged into a smiley face formation over the art center’s dedication wall, which acknowledges Leon and Debra Black and …
