NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Knicks are going to open both of their title defenses against LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers. The Knicks will travel to Philadelphia to face the 76ers on Oct. 30 on the opening night of NBA Cup games, the league announced Wednesday. The NBA revealed the schedule for opening night and Christmas on Tuesday, and along with the NBA Cup schedule on Wednesday also announced the national TV schedules for games on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Presidents Day. It will release the entire 2026-27 schedule on Thursday at 3 p.m. EDT. This is the fourth season of the NBA Cup, the league’s in-season tournament. Games in the group stage will be played Oct. 30, Nov. 6, Nov. 13, Nov. 20, Nov. 24, Nov. 25 and Nov. 27, when the Knicks will host Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Miami Heat. Following the New York Knickerbockers’ historic win in the 2025–26 NBA season finals, Sotheby’s New York sold a jersey worn by point guard Jalen Brunson on Wednesday for just over $1 million. It was the Knicks’ first championship win in 53 years, and the jersey set a new record for any piece of Knicks memorabilia. The house’s expert, Brahm Wachter, had estimated it could make in excess of $1 million. Opened on June 30, the sale of finals memorabilia concluded Wednesday, realizing $2.9 million. The sale drew more than 400 registered bidders, said the house, nearly 30% of whom were new to Sotheby’s. New Yorkers accounted for one-third of all sale registrants. NEW YORK (AP) — Jose Alvarado will return to the New York Knicks on a multiyear contract, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Friday. Alvarado declined his player option and is working with the NBA champions on a three-year deal, according to the person who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the contract was not yet finalized. ESPN first reported the plan, saying Alvarado would make more than $14 million with the new deal. The guard was acquired from New Orleans during the season and had a player option for $4.5 million for next season. Alvarado indeed came home on Feb. 5 when the Knicks acquired the Brooklyn native who attended Christ the King High School. Fashion designer Jordyn Brooks, who is also the fiancée of Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns, made a sample Tux Clutch Mini bag in orange to commemorate the Knicks playoff run. Tyrese Haliburton, the 2024-25 New York Knicks slayer, was forced to sit out this past NBA season following a devastating achilles injury immediately followed by a horrific bout with shingles. The result, in part, was New York sports history. Making his way down the Canyon of Heroes along lower Broadway this week, point guard Jalen Brunson held the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy aloft in a Rolex-clad arm as jubilant bystanders jockeyed for selfies and fist bumps. He had reason to be confident, of course: having scored 45 of the Knicks’ 94 points in Game 5 against the Spurs, he not only helped clinch the team’s victory in a difficult fourth quarter, but was also responsible for helping deliver heretofore unseen energy levels to the city. For a man who can afford any watch he damn well likes, a gold Day-Date is an interesting choice: despite its solid precious-metal construction, its relative flash almost registers as quaint when stacked up against the gem-set “rainbow” Daytonas and skeletonized, complicated luxury sports watches of today. For most New Yorkers looking to savor the Knicks’ first NBA championship in 53 years, a commemorative T-shirt—perhaps purchased bootleg outside Madison Square Garden—will have to do. But for the lucky few superfans with a few million to spare, a far more rarefied piece of Knicks history is about to hit the auction block. Starting June 30, Sotheby’s will offer the game-winning basketball from the Knicks’ improbable Game 4 comeback against the San Antonio Spurs, in which the team erased an unprecedented 29-point deficit at MSG. The ball was used on the game’s second-to-last play, when star forward OG Anunoby tipped in point guard Jalen Brunson’s missed three-pointer, securing a 107–106 victory.
