Google unveiled a brand-new slate of handsets for 2026: the Pixel 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro XL and 11 Pro Fold. The Pixel 11 series has a number of improvements over its predecessors, including more efficient Tensor G6 processors, camera advancements such as Magic Capture and overall spec upgrades.  While there aren’t many design differences compared with the Pixel 10, the Pixel 11 Pro devices in particular do have one notable addition: HiLight. Initially rumored as the “Pixel Glow,” HiLight is essentially an array of ambient LED lights built around the camera’s flash that provide visual cues depending on the type of notification you’re getting. It hearkens back to the BlackBerry’s notification LED. The Pixel 11 series also showcases many of Gemini Intelligence’s latest features, such as voice-to-text capabilities that filter out filler words when sending a message, or the ability to communicate in ASL via the Pixel camera.  The Pixel 11 series is now available to preorder. Google’s Pixel Camera chief, Isaac Reynolds, thinks year-to-year upgrades to smartphone cameras are still critical, even though some detractors think they’re passé. “A person who is a casual photographer and desperately wants to be a hobbyist—they’re never going to break that ceiling unless you give them the tools,” he says. “The features that others call ‘meh’—for some people, those features are life-changing.” Take the 30X Super Res Zoom on the Pixel 7 Pro from 2022, which uses machine learning to stitch together multiple frames in a digitally zoomed photo to give you a result that’s much sharper than you’re used to. Reynolds says that because of this feature, Google now sees people using 30X zoom dramatically more than before. The new Pixel 11 Pro, announced today, can zoom up to 120X, though in addition to the digital stitching, it relies on AI-generated pixels to fill in some details. Iran has dismissed President Donald Trump’s claim that Washington has “total control” of the Strait of Hormuz, saying the critical waterway will remain closed until the United States accepts its demands and changes its “behaviour”. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s new film has sadly failed to perform at the US Box Office – but there’s still time for things to improve.  The Sussexes’ latest project, Cookie Queens, an Archewell Productions coming-of-age story about Girl Scouts, earned less than £250,000 after its release in 446 cinemas on 7 August.  This meant it didn’t make the top ten releases after launch weekend, with a compilation of “world’s best cat videos”, CatVideoFest 2026, performing better. One industry source told The Times that the statistics showed a “pitiful return”. It’s hard to keep track of just how many supposed frontrunners there have been for the role of James Bond since Daniel Craig stepped down back in 2021 – and it looks like we can add another name to that list. According to Richard Osman, Slow Horses favourite Jack Lowden could be in line to be the next 007, with the former Pointless host and Thursday Murder Club author suggesting as much on the latest episode of his podcast, The Rest Is Entertainment. “The name I’ve heard is Jack Lowden,” he said in conversation with co-host Marina Hyde, although he clarified that he didn’t think anything was sealed at this point. “It is definitively not a ‘he’s definitely got it’ thing,” Osman said. “He is definitely being strongly considered.
