Mariska Hargitay Will Host the 2026 Emmys

One of the most recognizable faces in television will serve as host of the 78th Emmy Awards in September. Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay will host the awards, which are set to air Sept. 14 on NBC. Hargitay is going into her 28th season as the star of SVU, which airs on NBC and is the longest-running primetime drama in American TV history. She’ll also be the first host who’s not primarily known for their comedic work in almost two decades. The last time the Emmys had a host who wasn’t a comedian or comic actor was in 2008, when the five nominees for best reality host (Tom Bergeron, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, Jeff Probst and Ryan Seacrest) shared emcee duties. “Bringing important stories into the light has been the heartbeat of my career,” Hargitay said in a statement. “It’s my great honor to host the 78th Emmy Awards — in the 100th birthday year of my beloved NBC — and celebrate this extraordinary community of storytellers. This is by no means the musician’s maiden merch voyage: In May, she proudly wore a homemade “Ghesquière girl” shirt for her Louis Vuitton runway debut, and in March, she bragged “I make my own merch” in an Instagram caption. Those weren’t the only lucky charms the crew had in tow: Swift wore—not the same, but very similar—jeans that will be familiar to anyone who watched her watching Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs win the 2024 Super Bowl. Mariska Hargitay‘s Joyful Heart Foundation has achieved a milestone more than a decade in the making. On Friday, it was announced that after 16 years, the End the Backlog campaign has successfully driven rape kit reform legislation in all 50 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. Maine became the final state to enact at least one of the campaign’s six pillars of reform, marking a nationwide breakthrough in efforts to eliminate the backlog of untested rape kits and help prevent future backlogs. According to End the Backlog, the six pillars of rape kit reform include mandating the submission and testing of all backlogged kits, requiring the testing of all new kits, creating statewide rape kit tracking systems, conducting statewide inventories, ensuring survivors have access to the status of their kits, and securing dedicated funding to support submission, testing and tracking.
