I built the same portfolio in Claude, Gamma, and Canva — here’s which one actually won

AI design tools are everywhere right now, but figuring out which one actually fits your workflow is harder than it looks. So, I ran a simple test: I asked the highly adaptable Claude, Gamma, and Canva to build the same portfolio page using the same prompt — and then pushed each one further with a subsequent request to see how well they could adapt. The results were surprisingly different. Here is what happened. I used the exact same prompt for all three: “I would like you to create a portfolio page for a new photographer new on the scene.” No extra context, no design specs. I wanted to see what they’d do with a completely open-ended request. From there, I followed up with each one using the same refinement prompt: “Make this more minimalist and more about the photographer.” The goal was to evaluate not just the quality of the initial output, but how they handled edits. Honestly, the back-and-forth matters way more than the first prompt when you’re trying to build something that actually …

ESS adds 8.5 GWh of sodium-ion to its battery storage portfolio

ESS adds 8.5 GWh of sodium-ion to its battery storage portfolio

Image: ESS ESS is moving beyond its long-duration energy storage roots into the crowded short- and medium-duration battery storage market – but not with lithium. The Oregon-based company said it signed a letter of intent with Malden, Massachusetts-based Alsym Energy to add 8.5 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of sodium-ion battery cells and modules to its portfolio. The move pushes ESS into short- and medium-duration battery storage – a segment where lithium-ion has long been the default – while building out a broader portfolio alongside its existing iron flow systems. Why sodium-ion Sodium-ion batteries are getting attention as a safer alternative to lithium-based chemistries. ESS says the technology it’s bringing in from Alsym is non-flammable and avoids the thermal runaway risks that have been a concern with lithium-ion systems. The companies say the batteries don’t need complex HVAC systems or extensive fire suppression, which lowers overall project costs. Sodium-ion systems are designed for applications that require fast response, high power, and frequent cycling, such as …

Peter Mandelson’s property portfolio — from Notting Hill to Wiltshire

Peter Mandelson’s property portfolio — from Notting Hill to Wiltshire

Peter Mandelson is at the centre of a public scandal, following revelations of his ties with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. This included documents which suggest that Mandelson had received three payments totalling $75,000 (£55,000) from Epstein, and emails in which he appears to have shared sensitive information with the disgraced financier when he was business secretary under Gordon Brown. Alongside years of correspondence with Epstein, there is also a picture of Mandelson in his underwear, talking to a woman in a dressing gown. Mandelson says he has “no record or recollection” of the payments, and expressed regret at “ever having known Epstein”. As a result, the Metropolitan Police has launched a criminal investigation into allegations of misconduct in public office, with two of Mandelson’s properties — his Wiltshire rental and his £7.6 million Camden home — searched last week. Mandelson has not yet commented publicly on the police investigation. Mandelson has been forced to resign before. In 1998, he was sacked as trade secretary after failing to disclose a secret property loan from …

A smart platform for a new generation

A smart platform for a new generation

For many investors, one of the toughest challenges is staying invested through market cycles. As interest rates ease and traditional savings products offer less yield, individuals are increasingly focused on making their capital work more efficiently even during holding periods. As a result, investors are looking for ways to make their money work harder while remaining invested, reflecting a shift IG Markets is evolving alongside. Its interest-on-shares feature – a first in Singapore – allows eligible shares and ETF holdings to earn a guaranteed 3 per cent annually on shareholdings of up to S$50,000, with no lock-in period or minimum investment. Users need only make one qualifying trade a month to remain eligible. The feature is meant to support investors during holding periods, when many platforms offer little incentive to remain engaged. “By paying interest on invested assets, we’re giving users a way to earn steady returns while keeping their capital working,” said Mr Chia. Underlying the approach is a focus on reducing friction, encouraging consistency and supporting long-term investing habits. MAKING INVESTING MORE ACCESSIBLE …

Valentino Garavani’s private property portfolio – including French château where he hosted ‘discreet’ parties

Valentino Garavani, one of the 20th and 21st centuries’ greatest icons of fashion, passed away aged 93. Since founding his namesake label in 1960, the designer dressed the likes of Jackie Kennedy and Elizabeth Taylor, and his sophisticated, hyper-feminine designs that celebrate womanhood in all its forms have gone down in history. Given his love of extravagance, it should come as no surprise that the legendary figure of haute couture had an impressive property portfolio. Each home was a world of its own, with the gorgeous attention to detail and flair that one would expect.
