Tuesday was primary election day in six US states, with both major parties holding runoffs in several races. In Minnesota, the progressive Lieutenant Governor defeated Representative Angie Craig in the Democratic Senate primary, while Wisconsin’s Republican gubernatorial primary remains too close to call. Also in Minnesota, eccentric Donald Trump-endorsed businessman Mike Lindell lost the Republican governor’s primary to House Speaker Lisa Demuth. And in South Carolina, Darlene Graham advanced to the Republican Senate runoff to succeed her late brother, Lindsay Graham, who died suddenly last month. Many of the battlegrounds are set and a few are yet to be decided in primaries but the answer remains murky. The math is simple: with President Trump in the White House and a Republican vice president holding the tie-breaking vote, Democrats need to flip four seats to take control. Republicans say they’ll hold the majority, though they admit it could be narrow. Given history and a less than favorable political environment for Republicans, the party is bracing for Democrats to pick up between one and three seats. The fact remains that neither party has easily won Senate races in states that voted for the other party’s presidential candidate. The Princess Royal brought back one of her signature brooches as she stepped out at Ascot racecourse on Saturday. Anne, 75, looked elegant in a jacquard green belted frock with a cream jacket and a matching pillbox hat as she arrived at the Berkshire meet. Pinned to her coat was a delicate gold horse brooch, featuring diamond-encrusted accents on its mane and tail. Each reel contains a small fragment of Somalia’s 20th-century history, from news bulletins to speeches, music and voices that were once beamed out across the nation’s airwaves, some dating back to the early 1950s.
