Netflix announced in May that its beloved legal drama starring Manuel Garcia-Rulfo will come to an end with its fifth season, but a new report by Deadline says that the show has a spinoff in the works revolving around the lead character’s half-sister. Based on the novels by Michael Connelly, The Lincoln Lawyer centers Garcia-Rulfo’s character, Mickey Haller, who works as an attorney out of the back of his Lincoln sedan. Season four, released in February, ended on a cliffhanger when Mickey is introduced to his long-lost half-sister, Artemisia “Emi” Finch, who is played by veteran TV actor Cobie Smulders. Smulders, 44, is known for playing SHIELD agent Maria Hill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise, starting with the 2012 film The Avengers through the TV miniseries Secret Invasion in 2023. …

Mangione is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Manhattan on Friday for a pretrial conference with Judge Margaret Garnett, which was requested in a court filing on Tuesday by both prosecutors and defense lawyers. He is separately charged in New York state court with murdering Thompson and other counts. If Mangione does plead guilty in the federal case, his attorneys are expected to argue that he cannot be prosecuted for murder in the state case because of New York’s double jeopardy law, The Times noted in its report Thursday. Apple’s all-glass iPhone overhaul isn’t being shelved after all, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman. The long-rumored device celebrating the 20th anniversary of the original iPhone is allegedly on track for a 2027 release despite a recent analyst report indicating Apple was no longer working on the design. Gurman reported on Tuesday that a new look will appear on iPhone Pro models next year, and that glass will be used on both the front and back of the phones. “The material will curve into the sides of the devices, with a metal band in the middle,” he wrote. That doesn’t mean the design process for the glassier iPhone model has been without its challenges. Gurman’s source said Apple experimented with a “more aspirational” version of the phone earlier in the design process, but that was scrapped early on in favor of a phone with more metal parts. “With that approach, the company encountered problems connecting the glass panels together,” Gurman wrote. “The design didn’t hold up when Apple had to figure out how to produce …

Ahead of tomorrow’s CPI report (which will come in tame thanks to continued housing disinflation), moments ago the US Treasury sold its first refunding auction, which came in very strong, stopping through the When Issued, and with above par metrics. Pricing at a high yield of 4.291%, up from 4.179% in July and the highest since Feb 2025, the auction stopped through the When Issued 4.296% by 0.5bps, the 2nd consecutive through auction. The bid to cover rose to 2.712, up from 2.600 and the highest since November; it was obviously well above the six-auction average of 2.606. The internals were also solid, with Indirects awarded 64.24%, down slightly from 67.50% last month but in line with the recent average of 3.729%. And with Directs awarded 24.0%, well above the average of 21.7%, Dealers were left holding just 11.7%, one of the lowest Dealers this year.  Overall, this was a rock solid auction, and it should eliminate any concerns that the bond market (at least) is worried about tomorrow’s CPI print (as in coming in …

If you were hoping for an all-glass iPhone, a new report from Barron’s might shatter that dream. The financial news source reports that Jefferies analyst Edison Lee believes development on an all-glass mobile device has come to a halt. According to the report, Lee thinks the device was canceled because of “poor production yield,” or not enough defect-free units being successfully made during production. An Apple representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The device was rumored to launch in the fall of 2027 to celebrate the iPhone’s 20th anniversary, and Barron’s reports it could have cost an eye-watering $2,060. According to a recent survey conducted by the American Bible Society (ABS), 48% of Americans believe they received a miraculous answer to prayer, Faithwire reports. Dr. John Plake, who heads the ABS State of the Bible series, added that the numbers for answered prayer were substantially higher among those considered practicing Christians where nearly 90% reported receiving a miraculous answer to prayer. Even among those who did not self-identify as Christian, 20% still reported miraculous answers to prayer. Plake believes that the higher percentage among Christians reveals the impact of a different worldview. Because Christians believe in the supernatural world, they are more apt to pray for a situation which in turn results in more miraculous interventions. “People who are practicing their Christian faith, I think, have a worldview that allows them to see that there’s more to life than just the naturalistic world around them,” Plake noted. “And so they are more likely to pray, and they are more likely to have these experiences of saying, ‘Hey, something supernatural, something miraculous happened in response …
