Madison Square Garden Bans Lawyer Representing New York Cop Injured at a Boxing Match

Madison Square Garden Bans Lawyer Representing New York Cop Injured at a Boxing Match

His client is a New York cop who was injured during a private security gig at Madison Square Garden. He sued the Garden on behalf of the cop. Now John Scola, a lawyer well known for representing local police officers, is banned from the high-profile arena and several others owned by the famously controlling James Dolan. For years, Dolan openly excluded entire law firms from his venues if a single attorney was in any sort of legal dispute with the Garden; those bans would then be enforced by Dolan’s increasingly sophisticated facial recognition system. What wasn’t entirely clear was whether Madison Square Garden was continuing to grow its legal blacklist. A letter to Scola, dated April 30 and reviewed by WIRED, suggested this practice continues. “Any tickets to MSG Venues,” the letter reads, “are hereby revoked.” The ban also highlights the fissures in the multilayered relationship between New York City’s public servants and its most iconic arena. As WIRED reported last month, MSG security functionally acted as a second, unsanctioned surveillance force in midtown Manhattan—without …

QatarEnergy Declares ForceMajeure For LNG Shipments Through May, Representing As Many As 90 Cargoes

QatarEnergy Declares ForceMajeure For LNG Shipments Through May, Representing As Many As 90 Cargoes

The already dismal LNG supply situation just got worse. With up to 20% of global LNG flows shuttered due to the ongoing blockade of the Hormuz Strait and the extensive damage of Qatar LNG infrastructure, QatarEnergy has declared force majeure on some of its long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply contracts, including ‌for customers in Italy, Belgium, South Korea and China, effectively canceling contractual obligations. That would represent as many as 90 cargoes according to Bloomberg. The move on Tuesday comes amid ongoing production and supply disruptions caused by the United States-Israeli war on Iran. Force majeure is a clause in contracts that allows a party to be excused from its obligations due to unforeseeable events. Petroleum companies in Kuwait and Bahrain have also recently invoked force majeure. Last week, QatarEnergy CEO Saad al-Kaabi said an Iranian attack on Qatar’s Ras Laffan gas facility wiped out about 17 percent of the country’s LNG export capacity, causing an estimated $20bn in lost annual revenue and threatening supplies to Europe and Asia. Repairs are expected to take 3-5 …

As ARTnews’s Maximilíano Durón and Sarah Douglas reported upon Allen’s selection in November, the artist was born in 1970, but has been based since 2017 in Tepoztlán, a town just outside of Cuernavaca and south of Mexico City. Prior to moving to Mexico, he was based in Joshua Tree, California. Allen is known for large-scale sculptures that are often made in stone, wood, and bronze, but he has also begun working a self-built robotic device to make his sculptures. Related Articles Prior to being taken on by Perrotin, Allen was represented by Olney Gleason and Mendes Wood DM, both of whom dropped the artist after Allen accepted the Biennale commission, according to the New York Times. Artist Representing Germany in Venice Dies at 41

Artist Representing Germany in Venice Dies at 41

Henrike Naumann, a sculptor whose installations composed of furniture and design objects associated with East Germany’s troubled past made her a star of the German art scene, died on Saturday at 41. Her death preceded one of her biggest projects to date: the German Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, where the Berlin-based artist is set to represent the nation alongside Sung Tieu this year. The Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (ifa), the organization that facilitates the German Pavilion, said in a statement that she died of a “short, serious illness.” Related Articles “With Henrike Naumann’s passing, we have lost not only a significant figure in contemporary German art, but also a warm-hearted, insightful, and highly committed individual,” ifa said. “Her legacy lives on – in her works, in the numerous international collaborations she initiated, and in the many people who were inspired by her thinking and work.” Naumann’s art was by turns disturbing, intriguing, and heartfelt, attesting to a Germany that remains unsettled well after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Often working with ready-made …

Trump criticizes Olympic skier who said representing the U.S. ‘brings up mixed emotions’

President Donald Trump called U.S. Olympic skier Hunter Hess “a real loser” Sunday after Hess said he had “mixed emotions” about representing the United States in this year’s Games. Trump said Sunday on Truth Social that if Hess doesn’t want to represent the U.S. at the Winter Olympics, “he shouldn’t have tried out for the Team, and it’s too bad he’s on it.” “Very hard to root for someone like this,” Trump added. Hess — who is competing in freestyle skiing — was asked at a news conference Friday how it feels to be representing the U.S. with “things going on back home.” “It brings up mixed emotions to represent the U.S. right now, I think. It’s a little hard,” he said. “There’s obviously a lot going on that I’m not the biggest fan of and I think a lot of people aren’t.” He continued: “I think for me, it’s more I’m representing my, like, friends and family back home, the people that represented it before me, all the things that I believe are good …
