The 26-year-old son of Richard, 76, and his ex-wife, Carey Lowell, 65, made his TV acting debut this year, appearing on season three of HBO’s hit Euphoria as rising movie star Dylan Reid. He also stars alongside model Kaia Gerber in the new Ryan Murphy series The Shards, which comes out in August. During a new interview with People, Richard shared what he thinks about his son following in his footsteps. “One, he’s really good,” the Pretty Woman star said. “He really kind of preternaturally knows what he’s doing. 'When you retire, it's challenging'

'When you retire, it's challenging'

What’s the view from your sofa? The TV is on the wall. I’ve got a big sofa, but I’ve got a bizarre habit of being all squidged up right at the end. Then I wonder why my neck hurts… What do you watch when you’re all squidged up? I started the second series of Running Point and I just watched The Other Bennet Sister, which was really cool. I’m a huge fan of Peaky Blinders; I’ve seen The Immortal Man five times. I tend to binge watch, so I could never start a series when I was in the England camp because I knew I’d end up sitting in my room till 4am. But if I get annoyed with a series, I’ll stop immediately. Even if you’re near the end of the whole show? Yes! I stopped watching The Great when Peter III [Nicholas Hoult] died in a frozen lake. I like my happy endings and his death ruined that possibility! Are you looking forward to this year’s World Cup? I can’t wait. I light …

Challenges Arise as Top Critics Retire

Challenges Arise as Top Critics Retire

When Christopher Knight retired as the art critic at the Los Angeles Times at the end of 2025, he was the last of, arguably, the three most influential US critics of the postmodern (i.e., post-1975) era to depart their roles. Roberta Smith retired as co-chief critic at The New York Times in 2024, and Peter Schjeldahl, who went from art critic at The Village Voice to The New Yorker, passed away in late 2022.  The trio were not only the most influential, but also the most gainfully employed—two factors that have everything to do with each other. I remember hearing Roberta Smith, speaking on a 2008 panel at Frieze when the fair was just a London event, estimate there were about 30 positions in the United States where people critiqued art full time, for one platform. I was a year into writing criticism in Los Angeles then, and I recall thinking that, while the statistic was grim, there was still a chance I’d get such a job.  Related Articles Then the number kept dwindling. Democratic Rep. Steve Cohen to retire after Republican-led redistricting in Tennessee

Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., announced Friday that he won’t be running for re-election this fall after a redistricting push in Tennessee carved up his Memphis-based district. The new district map, which the Republican-led state Legislature and GOP Gov. Bill Lee enacted last week, divides Cohen’s majority-Black district three ways. Tennessee’s new map comes just weeks after the Supreme Court’s decision in Callais v. Louisiana, which gutted parts of the Voting Rights Act and sharply limited the use of race in drawing congressional districts. In the wake of the decision, lawmakers in several states across the South have moved forward with redistricting in ways that …

Philip Kamrass/AP hide caption toggle caption Philip Kamrass/AP ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — The longtime president of Bard College announced his retirement Friday, months after it was revealed that he had a much deeper relationship with Jeffrey Epstein than was previously known. Leon Botstein, who has been president of the small, liberal arts college in New York for a half century, will retire at the end of June, he wrote in an email provided to The Associated Press by Bard. In the note, Botstein, 79, didn’t mention the scrutiny of his ties to Epstein, except to say that he had waited to announce his retirement publicly until the completion of an independent review of his relationship with the notorious sex offender. He said he would remain on Bard’s faculty as a teacher and musician. Botstein was not accused of any involvement in Epstein’s exploitation and abuse of girls and women. But he was among a long list of …

Young to retire at the end of the season

April 30 : Former England forward Ashley Young said he will retire at the end of the season, bringing the curtain down on a career spanning more than two decades. The 40-year-old, currently at Championship side Ipswich Town, made more than 750 club appearances and scored 88 goals across spells with Watford, Aston Villa, Manchester United, Inter Milan and Everton. “From Sefton Road to Vicarage Road to Villa Park to Wembley to Old Trafford to San Siro back to Villa Park to Goodison Park and finally to Portman Road. It’s been some journey that I only dreamt of as a boy,” Young said in an Instagram post on Thursday. “But with this dream there has to be an ending and Saturday might be the last game of my professional career.” Young began his career at Watford, making his senior debut in 2003, and played a key role in the club’s promotion to the Premier League in 2006. He later moved to Aston Villa in 2007, where he became one of the league’s most effective wide …
