Tony Danza, 75, leaves restaurant diners stunned with surprise pop-up performance on NYC sidewalk

Tony Danza is still surprising fans. The 75-year-old singer was recently spotted crooning to diners at Manny’s Bistro in New York City during a surprise performance, which you can watch in the video above. Tony, who made a name for himself in the ’80s in sitcoms like Taxi and Who’s the Boss?, sang “Mack the Knife” by the late American singer Bobby Darin, accompanied by a piano player, a saxophonist, and a cellist.  Wearing a gray long sleeved t-shirt and black pants, Tony was cheered on by diners and passersby. “The Upper West Side always lights up when the fabulous Tony Danza joins the @victorneufeld band to do this classic — ‘Mack the Knife!’” wrote Manny’s Bistro on Instagram. “Bravissimo, dear Tony!” Other onlookers shared their experiences of the performance to social media. CBS meteorologist posted a video of Tony singing with the caption: “Only in New York…. Saw @tonydanza while I was waiting for a…. TAXI.” Tony is a lifelong New Yorker. He was born on April 21, 1951 in Brooklyn New York. These …

LA County is giving away free health code compliant food carts to help sidewalk vendors operate legally

LA County is giving away free health code compliant food carts to help sidewalk vendors operate legally

Los Angeles County is moving to reshape sidewalk vending by removing one of its biggest barriers: the cost of meeting health rules. The Sidewalk Vending Cart Program, led by the Los Angeles County Department of Economic Opportunity and the City of Los Angeles Economic and Workforce Development Department, will invest $2.8 million to give away more than 280 food carts. Each cart meets California health code standards and allows vendors to operate legally. The program launched in August 2024 as part of a broader county effort to formalize sidewalk vending after years of shifting rules. Since 2018, state and local laws have steadily changed how street food businesses operate. Those changes have often raised costs for vendors trying to stay compliant. County officials say the new requirements, while meant to protect public health, have priced many people out of the legal system. The cart program is designed to close that gap. Stop using so much sidewalk salt

Get the Popular Science daily newsletter💡 Breakthroughs, discoveries, and DIY tips sent every weekday. Every winter across most of the northern US, giant bags of salt materialize at grocery stores and home improvement retailers as residents and business owners prepare to combat icy sidewalks and slick driveways. But when it comes to salting walkways and parking lots, most people overdo it, which costs more than just cash; using too much salt can have surprisingly harmful effects on the local environment, water quality, and human health. The problem with sidewalk salt When salt is applied to roads and sidewalks as a deicing agent, as snow melts, salt gets washed into streams, lakes, and wetlands. Once there, there’s no practical way to remove it at scale. Fortunately, some municipalities, including the Lake George area in upstate New York, are advocating for more responsible salt usage. The location offers an excellent case study for how road salt can affect regional waterways and what can be done about it. Since 1980, the Lake George Association (LGA), along with partners …
