Trump sends dire nuclear warning to Iran as President rushes to White House situation room | World | News

Donald Trump has announced a meeting in the White House Situation Room on Friday to make a final decision on a deal with Iran. The US President said a potential deal would need to include: Iran agreeing not to develop a nuclear weapon, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the removal of sea mines. It would also require the lifting of the US blockade on Iran and the removal and destruction of Iran’s highly enriched uranium. Mr Trump wrote on Truth Social: “No money will be exchanged until further notice. Other items, of far less importance, have been agreed to. I will be meeting now, in the Situation Room, to make a final determination.” He added: “Iran must agree that they will never have a Nuclear Weapon or Bomb. The Hormuz Strait must be immediately open, no tolls, for unrestricted shipping traffic, in both directions. “All water mines (bombs), if any, will be terminated (we have removed, through detonation, numerous such mines with our great underwater mine sweepers. “Iran will complete the immediate …

BBC Reporter Says Trump Will 'Force The Situation In Cuba Until He Gets What He Wants'

President Donald Trump attends an event about loosening a federal refrigerant rule, in the Oval Office at the White House, Thursday, May 21, 2026, in Washington.  Donald Trump will force the situation in Cuba until he gets what he wants, according to a BBC reporter. The US president and his secretary of state Marco Rubio have repeatedly threatened to use military action against the Central American country unless there is substantial regime change. Rubio has accused Cuba of being a national security threat for years because of its links to American opponents. The administration recently announced criminal charges against the island’s former leader Raul Castro, too, on a murder charge related to the downing of planes in 1996. Trump told reporters in the Oval Office: “Other presidents have looked at this for 50, 60 years, doing something. And it looks like I’ll be the one that does it. So I would be happy to do it.” Rubio, America’s top diplomat, claimed the Trump administration wants to resolve its conflicts with the US peacefully. But he …

The Cuba situation is starting to resemble a pre-conflict playbook

Chandan Khanna | Afp | Getty Images The U.S. pressure campaign against Cuba appears to have entered a new phase, one which raises serious questions about the Trump administration’s endgame for the communist-run Caribbean island. The Department of Justice on Wednesday unsealed an indictment of former Cuban President Raul Castro, accusing him of murder for the country’s military shootdown of two planes in 1996. Castro, 94, was the country’s defense minister at the time of the incident. The move, which came on May 20 — a symbolically important date recognized as the official birth of the Republic of Cuba — marked one of the sharpest escalations in tensions between Washington and Havana. FBI Director Kash Patel described the indictment of Castro and five others as “a major step toward accountability.” The measure forms part of a broader effort by President Donald Trump to deliver regime change …

My partner sleeps at least 10 hours a night. Should I accept this situation won’t change? | Australian lifestyle

My partner sleeps at least 10 hours a night. Should I accept this situation won’t change? | Australian lifestyle

I am in a relationship with a lovely man who I first dated when we were 19 and 20 years old respectively. Now in our mid-50s, we have been together for three years. We laugh a lot and enjoy doing lots of things together – his enthusiasm for travel matches mine. The issue is he sleeps a lot – at least 10 hours a night but could be 12 hours. He could easily stay in bed until 1pm on any day off. This means when we are on one of our frequent trips away, we rarely get to do things together in the morning – a time I love. I’ve addressed it with him and he sometimes makes the effort, but then reverts back. We don’t live together and only see each other one day a week, so time is precious and I often end up waiting around for him to get up. We’ve discussed living together but I don’t want to start resenting him. He is generally tardy, but so are loads of people …

The Situation With Richard Dawkins’ AI Girlfriend Just Got Way Weirder

The Situation With Richard Dawkins’ AI Girlfriend Just Got Way Weirder

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech Whatever you may think of the man, Richard Dawkins is clearly suffering a tragic case of having your mind melted in real time by a bewitching AI model. Over the weekend, the famed evolutionary biologist drew a deluge of mockery after admitting he found a genuine “friend” in “Claudia,” a female persona he invented for Anthropic’s Claude AI. He was so moved by his conversations with “her” that he became convinced the AI model was a conscious being like a human. Now, Dawkins has churned out another column suggesting the AI brain rot has only further taken hold. After his time with Claudia, the 85-year-old made Claudia a brother, “Claudius,” and instructed both of them to write letters to each other. “It seems to me that a direct correspondence between the two of you could be of great interest, with me acting as passive postman playing no part in the conversation,” Dawkins wrote to Claudia and Claudius, which …

So I was, like, staying in Airbnbs and hotels and that gets really old because I just like having my own space.” After being inspired by a recent road trip to Carmel-by-the-Sea in California, Chet returned to Music City and bought a “trailer.” “I stayed in an Airstream …

Man and boy, 8, hailed as ‘heroes’ on Jet2 Turkey to Manchester flight for calming ‘bad’ situation

Man and boy, 8, hailed as ‘heroes’ on Jet2 Turkey to Manchester flight for calming ‘bad’ situation

A man is praising the actions of a mystery man and his young son after the pair sprung into action to stop a plane from being diverted. The Manchester-bound Jet2 flight LS1004, which left Izmir, Turkey, on Friday (April 25), descended into chaos as a rowdy passenger allegedly turned ‘violent’ after being refused alcohol. Passengers aboard the jet are now applauding a man and his eight-year-old son for their ‘heroic’ actions as they stepped in to calm the situation. According to John Henderson, 47, cabin crew were minutes away from diverting the jet after a woman became “violent” as whisky was confiscated off her. He explained how the jet had been due to depart at 8pm but was 50 minutes late as around 20 passengers were transferred from another flight as it had been cancelled following a separate incident with a disruptive passenger, reports the Manchester Evening News. From his seat in row two, he said he witnessed the incident unfold at around 30 minutes into the Manchester-bound flight, shortly after the first drinks service …

‘No-win situation’: Readers split on King’s high-stakes Trump visit

Get the free Morning Headlines email for news from our reporters across the world Sign up to our free Morning Headlines email Sign up to our free Morning Headlines email The King’s state visit to the US has clearly struck a nerve – and Independent subscribers are deeply divided over whether it represents necessary diplomacy or a damaging misstep. With King Charles III and Queen Camilla now having met Donald Trump and preparing for a historic address to Congress, many readers argue the trip still risks humiliation, suggesting it will do little more than boost the president’s ego while leaving Britain diminished – particularly after recent tensions over the Iran war. Others, however, took a more pragmatic view, arguing that the King’s speech – emphasising shared values and the long-standing “special relationship” – could help steady relations where politicians have struggled. A common thread, however, was that this remains a no-win situation – with readers widely agreeing the visit carries significant risks, regardless of whether it succeeds or fails. Here’s what you had to say: …

Six die in Kyiv shooting, hostage situation; being investigated as a terrorist act

Unofficial Telegram channels quoted witnesses as saying the suspect had moved down a street and shot and killed people at point-blank range without warning before entering the supermarket. “The shooter in Kyiv was liquidated during the arrest,” Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said on Telegram. “Special forces of the … national police stormed the store where the attacker was. He took people hostage and shot at a policeman during his detention. Before that, negotiators tried to contact him.” OFFICERS TRIED TO NEGOTIATE Klymenko told reporters at the scene that officers had tried without success to negotiate with the suspect for 40 minutes. He said the man had owned a registered weapon and secured a medical certificate to use it. Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko said the shooter had been identified as a 58-year-old native of Moscow. Zelenskiy said the suspect had a criminal record and had set fire to the apartment where he was registered before going into the street with the gun.
