Sky News halted for breaking announcement – and it’s terrible for Donald Trump | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Sky News presenter Matt Barbet halted this evening’s broadcast to deliver a breaking news announcement about US President Donald Trump. The broadcaster began: “Donald Trump has taken to Truth Social, informing everyone that Iran has shot down a US Apache helicopter. Just to quote what he has posted on social media, ‘I have just been informed,’ he says, ‘by our great military that last night the Iranians shot down one of our highly sophisticated Apache helicopters while patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz. “’There were two pilots involved,’ and he says both are safe and uninjured. ‘Nevertheless, the United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack.’” The US leader signed off on the post, writing: “Thank you for your attention to this matter. President Donald J Trump.” The helicopter went down as the Middle East was still fuming after Iran and Israel exchanged fire the previous day in a huge setback to the ceasefire of the Iran war, which started in February. Sky News halted for breaking King Charles announcement | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Sky News was abruptly halted for a King Charles III announcement this afternoon as the monarch met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. As the breaking news banner flashed across the screen, the host Jayne Secker said: “Breaking news, we can bring you. It’s just been announced that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, has visited the King this afternoon. We knew he was across in the UK and had a meeting with the Prime Minister yesterday.” She continued as she delivered the update: “It’s not the first time he has met the King, but it’s another meeting between the President of Ukraine and the King.” It comes a day after UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, President Emmanuel Macron of France, Chancellor Friedrich Merz of Germany, and Zelenskyy met to discuss their unwavering support for Ukraine in its defence against Russia’s war on the nation. On Sunday evening, in London, they debated “the urgent need to scale up” Ukraine’s air defences and deep-strike capabilities. The meeting with various world leaders came hours after a Russian …

Ukraine war briefing: Zelenskyy says he met Roman Abramovich in Kyiv in backchannel to Putin

Moldova’s President, Maia Sandu, said the war in neighbouring Ukraine showed that her country badly needed high-technology interceptor drones and new legislation was required to facilitate their manufacture. Moldova, which is seeking EU membership by 2030, has dealt with numerous incidents of Russian drones flying over its territory or debris landing in areas near the border. Sandu, a fierce critic of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, expressed particular concern over a drone last month that struck a residence in Galati, a Romanian city near the border with Moldova and Ukraine, injuring two people. Reform’s Nadhim Zahawi Slammed Over ‘Disgraceful’ Defence Of Kemi Badenoch Attack Ad

Reform’s Nadhim Zahawi Slammed Over ‘Disgraceful’ Defence Of Kemi Badenoch Attack Ad

Nadhim Zahawi on Trevor Phillips on Sunday. Sky News Nadhim Zahawi has been condemned over his “disgraceful” attempts to defend a Reform UK ad attacking Kemi Badenoch which has been widely criticised as misleading. The former Tory, who defected to Nigel Farage’s party earlier this year, insisted there was nothing wrong with the controversial social media post, which was produced following the jailing of Henry Nowak’s killed. The 18-year-old was handcuffed and arrested by police as he lay dying after being wrongly accused of racism by his killer, Vickram Digwa. Digwa, a British-born Sikh, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 21 years at Southampton Crown Court last Monday. Farage has said the case is an example of “two-tier policing” and anti-white discrimination. The Reform ad showed a quote from 2020 in which Badenoch said “black lives do matter”, alongside a partial quote she gave this week in which she said “I don’t care about white lives matter”. However, her full quote, which she gave in an interview on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, was: “I …

Sky News abruptly halted for bombshell Keir Starmer announcement | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Sky News host Beth Rigby issued a breaking announcement this evening after more than 50 Labour MPs called for Sir Keir Starmer to step down as the nation’s Prime Minister. As the breaking news banner flashed at the bottom of the screen, Rigby said the story was moving very quickly. “The breaking news is that a PPS has resigned from government – this is the most junior rank in government,” she added. Ministerial aide Tom Rutland was the person who resigned, writing in a statement: “It is with regret that I believe the Prime Minister should now set out a timetable for his departure and for a new leader to be chosen to lead the Labour Party and the country. “I watched brilliant councillors lose their seats last week through no fault of their own. Time and time again, speaking with voters at their doors, I heard little dislike for local councillors nor for the Labour Party, but the animosity towards the Prime Minister was clear from every voter who was choosing to vote for …

This afternoon’s instalment of Sky News was ground to a halt for a Keir Starmer alert. The Prime Minister appeared on screen as a breaking news banner appeared while he was stepping off a plane. The breaking alert reported that he had arrived in Armenia ahead of the European Political Summit in Yerevan, the nation’s capital. As he was walking off the aircraft a day before the summit, a Sky News host said: “We will bring you the latest shots of Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who has just landed in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.“He is there in the country with several other leaders, including Ukraine’s President.” Starmer will also be joined by leaders from countries including Norway and Finland. He added: “The meeting is happening throughout the day and as you can see, Starmer has landed in the country that borders Iran and other countries.” Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan welcomed Starmer at Zvartnots Airport once he set foot on the ground. Why Sky News is moving beyond ‘commoditised’ breaking news

Sky News executive editor Jonathan Levy speaking at Press Gazette’s Future of Media Trends event in London on 22 April 2026. Picture: The Photo Team for Press Gazette The top editor at Sky News has explained why the channel can no longer rely on covering “commoditised” breaking news. Jonathan Levy, managing director and executive editor at Sky News, said although the newsbrand is strong at covering breaking news “by heritage”, this has become a “much more commoditised and competitive space”. Sky News is currently implementing a plan to be a “premium video-first newsroom built for the digital future” with less reliance on live, breaking TV news by 2030. It has just announced its planned first forays into paid content both coming this summer: a subscription-based app specifically for defence content and paid podcasts with perks like ad-free listening and bonus episodes. Speaking at Press Gazette’s Future of Media Trends event in London last week, Levy said: “By heritage, we’re a breaking live news organisation, and we’re very comfortable doing breaking live. We’re very good at …
