Comic conventions are becoming content studios. NYCC is embracing the shift.

From the creator lounge at New York Comic Con, the view is hard to beat. Below, thousands of fans stream through the Javits Center’s main entrance, a colorful procession of elaborate cosplays, oversized props, and familiar characters brought to life. Towering banners celebrating everything from Tamagotchi and The Apothecary Diaries to YAGA and NYCC’s 20th anniversary hang overhead. It’s a spectacle in its own right, and an even better backdrop for a TikTok. That’s intentional. For this year’s convention, organizers designed the lower portions of the banners in the venue’s Crystal Palace with photo and video opportunities in mind, anticipating how attendees might capture their experiences and share them online. SEE ALSO: The Mashable 101: The creators defining the internet in 2026 The creator lounge offers a particularly good vantage point. The open space overlooks the crowds below, with dedicated Wi-Fi, room to film and edit, and a place to recharge throughout the day. It’s one of the ways NYCC is accommodating a growing contingent of content creators who arrive at the convention with cameras, …

Amazon MGM Studios Touts Mercedes Ron, ‘Apocalypse Z’ Sequel

Spanish- and Portuguese-language stories are an increasingly key part of Amazon MGM Studios’ original content mix, and they can certainly keep up with Hollywood, two top executives told the sixth edition of Iberseries & Platino Industria in Spain’s capital Madrid on Tuesday. Javiera Balmaceda, head of international originals for Latin America, Canada and Australia, and Nicole Morganti, head of international originals for Southern Europe, drew a big crowd with their session on how the studio develops and brings local-language stories to global audiences. The executive duo also showed trailers for such action-packed film releases as Zeta and Vengeance. Zeta revolves around a national intelligence service team led by top agent Zeta, which must investigate the simultaneous killing of five former Spanish spies in different embassies around the world. Vengeance‘s plot is focused on Carlos Estrada. When his wife is brutally murdered, the decorated special forces hero is left with only one purpose: vengeance. Of course, the success of bestselling author Mercedes Ron‘s film adaptations on Prime Video, from her popular Fault (Culpables) series to the …

TENNOZ ART WEEK 2026 in September with Fair, Open Studios and Museum

Warehouse TERRADA will hold TENNOZ ART WEEK 2026, a multi-venue art event in Tennoz, Tokyo, from September 10 to 13. Now in its fourth edition, the event will be held in collaboration with Tokyo Gendai (September 11–13 at PACIFICO Yokohama), the international art fair for which Warehouse TERRADA serves as an official partner. On September 12 and 13, free shuttle buses will run at regular intervals between PACIFICO Yokohama and Tennoz for Tokyo Gendai ticket holders. Details of the shuttle schedule will be announced on the event’s official website. With art storage facilities, galleries, and museums clustered along its canals, Tennoz is one of Tokyo’s leading art districts. Its history dates back to the final years of the Edo period, when the shogunate constructed coastal defense batteries known as daiba in response to the arrival of Commodore Matthew Perry. Taking advantage of its proximity to the port, the area later developed into a logistics district where factories and warehouses were concentrated. Founded in 1950, Warehouse TERRADA has expanded beyond its core warehousing business, developing a …

Marvel Studios Announces Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider, David Jonsson as Black Panther and More At San Diego Comic-Con 2026 Hall H Panel

A Ryan Gosling Ghost Rider movie and the first Black Panther 3 cast announcements were among Marvel Studios’ big new-project reveals at San Diego Comic Con’s famed Hall H. Although there wasn’t much news on the X-Men front, this weekend’s presentation by Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige did contain a few slivers of insight as to where the MCU is headed in the aftermath of Avengers: Doomsday (whose latest trailer dropped this week in the swirling wake of The Odyssey, to somewhat muted reception online) and 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars. In case you weren’t refreshing your social media feeds, we’ve got the breakdown on all three biggest bits of news out of the panel. A Fresh Ghost Rider Project Revs Up Jesse Grant/Getty Images After many rumors and much speculation, Feige announced that the character of Ghost Rider will return to the MCU, this time played by Ryan Gosling. The film, helmed by Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy, will release in 2028. A writer has yet to be announced. This marks a reunion …

Marvel Studios Brings Doomsday to Its Most Crowded Comic-Con Panel

Marvel Studios Brings Doomsday to Its Most Crowded Comic-Con Panel

After years of massive Comic-Con panels with full Avengers casts, it didn’t seem possible that Marvel Studios could go bigger. But, boy, did they. In a first for Hall H, the studio surprised the 7,000-strong crowd by revealing a hidden stage in the back of the cavernous room, with castmembers from Thunderbolts* and the 2000s X-Men movies appearing. After giving brief speeches, the actors made their way from the back, through the entire hall, high-fiving fans along the way and the crowd screaming like it was a Beatles or BTS concert. They joined the main stage already populated by Pedro Pascal, Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, and the star attraction, Robert Downey Jr. It was just one part of supersized panel, that included the startling revelations that Alien: Romulus breakout David Jonsson would play the son of T’Challa (the late Chadwick Boseman) in Black Panther 3 for a Dec. 15, 2028 release. He will take the mantle of the Black Panther. Another bombshell: not only would Ryan Gosling play Ghost Rider in a new movie, but …

Residents near Universal Studios shocked by noise of new ‘Fast & Furious’ coaster

Residents near Universal Studios shocked by noise of new ‘Fast & Furious’ coaster

Leonard R. Garner Jr. loves roller coasters. And the mostly-retired television director and actor has a place in his heart for Universal Studios Hollywood, the theme park atop the studio where he spent many days behind a camera. He also adores the tranquility of his home. As a resident of Toluca Lake, the tiny neighborhood nestled below the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Super Nintendo World and other park staples, Garner watched with curiosity as Universal Studios began erecting Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, its new outdoor, high-speed thrill ride. He continued to track the construction over the next three or four years while out on afternoon walks. At last, when Universal Studios began testing the ride this spring, Garner breathed a sigh of relief. “I was amazed at how quiet it was,” he said. “I could not hear it at all.” But he wasn’t considering one detail: There were no people on it. Everything changed, Garner and numerous other Toluca Lake residents said, the summer day when Universal Studios began running the coaster with …

From a Polish Soccer Field to Philosophy: The Story Behind the Inference Studios Tournament

From a Polish Soccer Field to Philosophy: The Story Behind the Inference Studios Tournament

In the summer of 2024, I played professional youth soccer for Ursus Warszawa in Poland, and I was racially abused by 200 supporters who questioned whether I belonged on that pitch. Not because of my lack of skill, but because it was clear I wasn’t ethnically Polish. As a 16-year old, I didn’t know what to make of the situation other than to keep playing and refuse to give the abusers satisfaction. It made me annoyed. It made me mad. But most significantly, it made me curious. At the bottom of the barrel, what was the real reason that the abusers in Poland felt the way they did, beyond blind hate? During my second week back in the U.S. is when I can say my passion for philosophy began. First, I read Paul Gomberg’s “Patriotism Is Like Racism,” which explores ethnic identity and nationalism. Those ideas naturally led to me to philosophy of religion and moral epistemology, where I felt I might find answers to my original question. But, my interests didn’t stop there. To …
