Mazar played Shauna Roberts, the outspoken publicist to fictional movie star Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier), on HBO’s hit aughts drama, which followed the actor and his close-knit group of friends as they navigated fame and Hollywood. “My thoughts are this is disgusting,” Ellin wrote in a post on X Tuesday reacting to Mazar’s comments. “Never, ever did myself or anyone that matters care or discuss Debi Mazar’s body. I would one million percent embrace any woman who got pregnant.” He continued: “The only bodies on the show I ever commented on were [Grenier’s] ( I wanted him more muscular) and [Jerry Ferrara], who I wanted fatter. I will forever feel …

People Realize 11 Things Only After They Move Away From Their Toxic Family

Creating space with a toxic family doesn’t heal all the internal wounds. But it’s often a crucial first step. For adult children who need to unwind their inner programming and move forward without continuous manipulation, once they move away from the dysfunction, whether physically or by creating emotional distance, they come to realize things that help them live a much fuller, happier life. Things people realize when they finally move away from their toxic family 1. People don’t have to agree in order to support you Mizuno K | Pexels Many people are convinced by toxic parents that they have to be perfect to be loved. They had to prove themselves worthy of being heard or respected, and eventually started to believe that this was how every relationship works. Even into adulthood, many adult children carry these toxic internal beliefs with them into their relationships. But when they finally set boundaries or cut off contact, it’s easier to clear the noise their toxic families created. The simple realization that someone can support and love you, …

Apple escaped Android’s ‘toxic hellstew’ – now Siri AI is creating a new one

Editors’ Note: Welcome to a new series called An Apple a Day, where we’ll share pieces of Apple content from our archives daily from now through late September. In addition to PCMag, this series will include pieces from our sibling sites CNET, Lifehacker, Mashable, and Popular Science. In 2014, I called Android a “toxic hellstew of vulnerabilities.” Little did I expect CEO Tim Cook to use the exact phrase on stage during that year’s WWDC keynote. Someone even made T-shirts. (Contrary to the rumors, no, I had nothing to do with them.) Also: Apple’s new Siri AI comes with hidden costs that power users should know of But oh, how things have changed since those seemingly much simpler days. In the decade since, the battle lines have shifted from app store dominance and making developers fall in line to AI. But what happened back then — especially in the courts — shaped how this new battle will be fought. It started with a walled garden “Walled garden” is a phrase used …

Let’s Marry Harry: I love trash TV but this dating show is the most toxic thing on television

Don’t get me wrong – I love my trash TV, especially if it involves love or dating. I’m not above mindlessly binging my way through Love is Blind, Perfect Match, The Ultimatum (the “queer love” versions are the only ones worth your time) and Too Hot to Handle, where Jowsey, now a TV “personality” and social media sensation in his own right with an inexplicable 4.8 million Instagram followers, first made his name. Even back in his debut, …

A psychologist warns how toxic people can make you physically ill—and what you can do to stop it

In recent years, we’ve all grown increasingly cautious about environmental toxins, pesticides, heavy metals, and dodgy additives in our food and cosmetics. Yet we seem to have overlooked another form of toxicity that does us just as much damage: people who relentlessly undermine our emotional well-being—whether at work, at home, or in our social circles.  The harm caused by toxic people isn’t merely psychological; our physical health and bodies take a serious hit from this behaviour too. As psychologist Sara Navarrete, an expert in self-esteem, couples therapy and emotional dependence, explains: “We’re discovering more and more about how our relationships directly impact the body. The brain doesn’t really differentiate between a physical threat and a prolonged emotional one.  “When we’re around people who constantly criticise, manipulate, or invalidate us, or leave us feeling perpetually on edge, our body repeatedly triggers its biological stress response. This leads to a sustained spike in hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, disrupted sleep, increased inflammation, poorer emotional regulation, and even a knocked-back immune system. “ © Getty ImagesBeing around toxic …

Starmer, Sue Gray and how to survive when your office turns toxic

Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more There’s a moment in most corporate careers where an employee unexpectedly feels a knife in their back. The attack can be small, like a trusted colleague putting down your idea in a meeting. Or the betrayal can grow surreptitiously large, through whispered bitching, misplaced blame, robbed ideas, intentionally miscommunicated deadlines – or just general shafting. And, before you know it, you’re under the fluorescent office lighting looking for an easy escape. It’s a scenario that rings true for former chief of staff Sue Gray, who in an interview with the Political Currency podcast claimed that, under Keir Starmer’s governance, Downing Street was awash with leaks about her to the media. After conferring with the then-prime minister on the matter, Gray added she was “disappointed” …

Ireland’s Museum Staffers Struggle with Toxic Environments

Ireland’s Museum Staffers Struggle with Toxic Environments

Museum staffers in Ireland are finding it increasingly difficult to sustain a career in the field over unstable contracts, low pay and toxic working environments, according to Dr. Emma McAlister, who wrote a blog post on the issue for the International Council of Museums on Monday. As McAlister recounted, she has only been able to work in the Irish museum industry over the last two and a half years through a temporary rolling contract that, at times, would be renewed just one day before its expiration. Her experience isn’t isolated. Related Articles A 2024 compensation study from the lobby group Irish Museums Association found there was an overreliance on temporary contracts and volunteers in the country’s museums. Around 52 percent of museum workers were on permanent or rolling contracts with volunteers making up their second largest pool, standing at 27 percent, IMA said in the report. Only 6 percent of workers were on fixed-term contracts for up to five years. The transition from short-term contracts to permanent positions is a fundamental issue Ireland’s museums need …

People Who Are Mentally & Emotionally Exhausting Say 10 Phrases In Casual Conversation

Everyone can be tiresome at times, but truly mentally and emotionally exhausting people are on a whole other level. You can usually point them out by the phrases they drop in casual conversation. According to lecturer Metta Karuna, “The human brain evolved with a ‘negativity bias.’” This is why negative thoughts and events tend to have a greater impact on our psychological state. Though strong people push through and stay mostly positive, overwhelmingly exhausting people are more likely to say these phrases more regularly. Mentally and emotionally exhausting people often use these phrases in casual conversation: 1. ‘This isn’t fair’ Karola G from Pexels | Canva It isn’t easy dealing with failure or rejection. It may be a normal part of life, but unfortunately, exhausting people don’t always see it that way. Because they tend to look at things from their own perspective, they often say, “This isn’t fair.”  Still, it’s important to pick yourself up. Yes, once the ego has been bruised, it’s hard to recover. But failure isn’t the end of the world. …

Toxic underground fires are spreading at California landfills

Toxic underground fires are spreading at California landfills

Three years ago, environmental regulators discovered garbage burning deep inside the Chiquita Canyon Landfill in the Santa Clarita Valley. Few imagined the calamity that would follow. Somehow the landfill’s pollution control system introduced oxygen below, causing decades-old waste to rapidly decompose, generating intense heat and eventually widespread smoldering, federal and state environmental agencies say. The broiling temperatures released toxic gases and hazardous liquid waste that bubbled up to the surface. Residents living in the nearby communities of Val Verde and Castaic have phoned in thousands of complaints about stench and lived with nausea, dizziness and trouble breathing. The underground fire has tripled in size since first confirmed in 2023. Recently a towering mound of landfill garbage perched on the hillside has warped and threatens to trigger an avalanche of garbage and chemical-filled liquid, or leachate, according to the California water board. Waste Connections, the landfill’s owner and operator, says it has been working to stabilize that area. “In a worst case scenario, the hillside can liquefy and actually slide into the community,” Assemblymember Pilar Schiavo …

5 Phrases People Who Have Toxic Love With Each Other Say In Casual Conversation | Kira Asatryan

Learning how to communicate effectively is a major factor in any happy, healthy relationship. What you don’t realize is that there are casual phrases that people in toxic love with each other use that drive a wedge between them. These types of toxic phrases & communication make it difficult to build closeness and connection, which you need to have trust and love.  Closeness — the antidote to loneliness — is very much within your control. One of the first things I encourage my clients to do to create more closeness in their relationships is to adjust their language and the phrases they say to each other in small but powerful ways. People who have a toxic love often say these phrases casually: 1. ‘Why did you…?’ It’s just one single word but can be so powerfully destructive. “Why” isn’t the best way to pose a question to someone you want closeness with because it can unintentionally create defensiveness. “Why” is the language of accusation: “Why did you do that?” “Why do you feel that way?” …
