After Minneapolis, Tech CEOs Are Struggling to Stay Silent

After Minneapolis, Tech CEOs Are Struggling to Stay Silent

It was November 12, 2016, four days after Donald Trump won his first presidential election. Aside from a few outliers (looking at you, Peter Thiel), almost everyone in the tech world was shocked and appalled. At a conference I attended that Thursday, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said it was “a pretty crazy idea” to think that his company had anything to do with the outcome. The following Saturday, I was leaving my favorite breakfast place in downtown Palo Alto when I ran into Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple. We knew each other, but at that point, I had never really sat down with him to do a deep interview. But this was a moment when raw emotions were triggering all sorts of conversations, even between journalists and famously cautious executives. We ended up talking for what must have been 20 minutes. I won’t go into the particulars of a private conversation. But it will surprise no one to hear what was mutually understood on that streetcorner: We were two people stunned at what had …

Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max: Redefining Smartphone Design

The iPhone 18 Pro series marks a pivotal moment in smartphone evolution, combining advanced technology, refined design, and a strong commitment to sustainability. Apple’s latest flagship models introduce new features that enhance performance, improve energy efficiency, and elevate user experience. This article explores the key innovations of the iPhone 18 Pro and their implications for users. The video below from Tech Town gives us more details on the rumored iPhone 18 Pro Max. Dynamic Island Redesign: A Step Toward Seamless Displays The iPhone 18 Pro introduces a significantly smaller Dynamic Island, reduced by 35%, offering a more immersive and uninterrupted display. This achievement is made possible by relocating critical Face ID components beneath the screen, a technological milestone that brings Apple closer to realizing a true edge-to-edge display. This redesign is exclusive to the Pro models, reflecting Apple’s deliberate approach to integrating advanced features. For users, the smaller Dynamic Island enhances the visual experience, making interactions more intuitive while maintaining the functionality that Apple users have come to expect. Why Apple TV’s Shrinking might be the last sadcom

Add Shrinking to your watchlist A day before Apple TV’s Shrinking returned to screens for its third season this week, a fourth run of the comedy-drama was announced – a real show of the faith the streamer has in the series. While co-creator Bill Lawrence had long stated that the series was pitched with a three-season arc, it’s perhaps unsurprising that it’s now going beyond this. Not only has Lawrence already proven his willingness to do so with Ted Lasso‘s upcoming continuation, but the series has been a monumental success. It’s a show that’s both remarkably funny and knows how to tug at the heartstrings. It also surely has escaped the notice of few that it’s one of two comedies to have been released in recent years specifically centred around the grief of a protagonist following the death of his wife. The first of these was After Life, Ricky Gervais’s Netflix hit. In another era, viewers might have balked at the idea that laughs could be found in such a tragic set-up – but not …

Apple Teases ‘Innovations That Have Never Been Seen Before’ This Year

Apple Teases ‘Innovations That Have Never Been Seen Before’ This Year

Apple CEO Tim Cook believes that his company will have opportunities to deliver “innovations that have never been seen before” this year. “As I said at the beginning of my remarks, this was, in so many ways, a remarkable quarter for Apple, and we’re excited for all the opportunities we’ll have in the year ahead to deliver innovations that have never been seen before and enrich the lives of users every step of the way,” said Cook, on an earnings call on Thursday. Cook hypes up Apple’s future on every earnings call, but “innovations that have never been seen before” is particularly bold wording compared to his usual comment about how the company’s product pipeline is stronger than ever. Only time will tell if Apple actually delivers. Will the foldable iPhone have any breakthrough features, such as a rumored crease-free screen? Will the more personalized version of Siri go above and beyond the likes of ChatGPT in any ways? Will the long-rumored Apple smart glasses do anything unique compared to the Meta Ray-Bans? Will the …

The iPhone just had its best quarter ever

The iPhone just had its best quarter ever

Apple had a great Q1, though iPhone sales were the real standout. The company reports that its signature device had its best quarter ever, thanks partially to a surge of sales in regions like China and India. “iPhone had its best-ever quarter driven by unprecedented demand, with all-time records across every geographic segment,” said CEO Tim Cook during the company’s earnings call Thursday. Apple’s earnings report shows the company sold $85 billion worth of iPhones during its first quarter, up from $69 billion in the same period last year. During the call’s Q&A portion, Cook revealed that China had seen a huge surge in sales. “It was driven by iPhone, where we set an all-time revenue record,” Cook said, noting that it was the “best iPhone quarter in history in Greater China.” Cook said the sales bump had been driven by enthusiasm for the iPhone 17, which was announced in September. The new model has proven to be significantly more popular than the company’s previous iPhone. Apple’s earnings report shows that its overall sales in …

Apple Was Caught Off Guard by AirPods Pro 3 Popularity

Apple Was Caught Off Guard by AirPods Pro 3 Popularity

AirPods Pro 3 demand was so strong after the earbuds launched in September that their popularity reportedly “caught Apple off guard.” “AirPods Pro 3 were supply-constrained during the quarter, and we think we would have grown year over year if we would not have been constrained,” Apple CEO Tim Cook told Reuters, in a report published alongside Apple’s record-breaking earnings results for the fourth quarter of the 2025 calendar year. He is referring to Apple’s Wearable, Home, and Accessories category, which saw around a 2% drop in revenue year-over-year. AirPods Pro 3 no longer have any extended delivery delays on Apple’s online store, so it would appear that Apple has caught up on supply by now. AirPods Pro 3 feature increased active noise cancellation, improved sound quality, longer battery life per charge, heart rate monitoring during workouts, improved fit for many users, increased water resistance, a new XXS ear tip size, and more. Apple Responds to Skyrocketing RAM and Storage Chip Prices

Apple Responds to Skyrocketing RAM and Storage Chip Prices

On an earnings call with equity analysts today, Apple CEO Tim Cook responded to fast-rising RAM and SSD storage chip prices in the supply chain. Cook said that rising memory chip prices had a “minimal impact” on Apple’s gross margin in the fourth quarter of the 2025 calendar year, but he does expect a “bit more of an impact” on the company’s gross margin in the current quarter. Cook added that Apple is aware of the rising prices and “will look at a range of options to deal with that” over the long term, if necessary. Apple reported record-breaking revenue of $143.8 billion last quarter, up 16% year-over-year, and it is predicting similar 13% to 16% year-over-year growth and gross margin of 48% to 49% in the current quarter, so the company is still reporting impressive earnings results despite concerns surrounding memory chip prices.
