Val Kilmer’s AI-Generated Likeness Leads As Deep as the Grave Trailer

Val Kilmer’s AI-Generated Likeness Leads As Deep as the Grave Trailer

Val Kilmer‘s AI-generated likeness is front and center in the trailer for the forthcoming movie As Deep as the Grave. Writer-director Coerte Voorhees’ feature debuted the footage at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Wednesday. Abigail Lawrie, Tom Felton and Abigail Breslin round out the cast for the indie film. As Deep as the Grave centers on real-life archaeologists Ann (Lawrie) and Earl Morris (Felton), who unearthed remains of the Ancestral Puebloans in the 1920s. Kilmer’s likeness can be seen portraying Father Fintan, a Catholic priest and Native American spiritualist. “Don’t fear the dead, and don’t fear me,” his likeness says in the trailer. The Top Gun and Batman Forever actor, who died in April 2025 at age 65 after a long battle with throat cancer, had been cast in the film before he passed but was not well enough to shoot his scenes. As noted in a release from production company First Line Films, Voorhees opted to digitally create Kilmer’s performance with the support of the late star’s daughter, Mercedes Kilmer. “When Val came onboard …

Iran War Leads To Fluoride Shortages For Some US Water Utilities

Iran War Leads To Fluoride Shortages For Some US Water Utilities

Authored by Zachary Stieber via The Epoch Times, Multiple water providers have lowered the amount of fluoride they add to water for millions of Americans, amid shortages stemming from the U.S.–Iran war. The Baltimore City Department of Public Works said on April 13 that it is reducing the level of fluoride from 0.7 milligrams per liter (mg/L) to 0.4 mg/L. The move, officials said, was driven by disruptions to the supply chain caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. A key Israeli supplier, specifically, has been struggling to meet demand. “This is an adjustment driven solely by supply availability,” Matthew Garbark, director of the Baltimore City Department of Public Works, said in a statement. “We remain committed to providing safe, high-quality drinking water.” Some 1.8 million people in and around Baltimore, the most populous city in Maryland, are served water by the city of Baltimore utility. Fluoride, a mineral, is put in water as a preventative for tooth decay and cavities. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends adding 0.7 mg/L. WSSC …

Meet The Lion King’s new leads: ‘The Pride Rock prop is older than us!’

“As performers we like to stay on top of our, physical health and mental health to give the same standard of performance anyway,” says Parker-Wallace, “But here you’ve got to to play animals on stage, you’ve got to be strong in your stature, your stance. The good thing is they’ve had 27 years of refining The Lion King, so the guys taking care of us are more than equipped. Tomorrow we have an injury prevention meeting. They’ve got an in-house physio team. They have many a PT on hand. Someone on the production had broken their ankle and within 7 weeks they were back on stage. So they will care for us while I feel like I can go home and learn my lines, get in the right headspace, try not to put my body in any jeopardizing positions, and as a company they will just usher me on my way to climbing Pride Rock…” Source link

Centennial College leads paramedic education with SimRig

Advanced ambulance simulation technology is transforming paramedic education at Centennial College, giving students immersive training that mirrors real-world emergency medical situations. Preparing future paramedics for the fast-paced world of emergency medical services (EMS) requires more than classroom learning. It needs realistic, hands-on training that mirrors the pressures of the field. That’s why, at Centennial College, paramedic students train in environments designed to reflect the real-world conditions they will face when responding to medical emergencies. This year, Centennial College’s Paramedic Program has taken another major step forward in EMS education with the unveiling of two new SimRig Classroom Ambulance Trainers – advanced ambulance simulation units designed to deliver hands-on paramedic training in a realistic clinical environment. This cutting-edge equipment was introduced during a special event on Friday 23 January at Centennial College’s Morningside Campus in Toronto, Ontario. Among the VIP attendees were Ron Kelusky, former Chief Prevention Officer and Assistant Deputy Minister; Susan Picarello, Assistant Deputy Minister, Emergency Health Services Branch at the Ministry of Health; and Councillor Neethan Shan of Scarborough–Rouge Park. Talking robot guide dog uses AI to describe the world as it leads

Talking robot guide dog uses AI to describe the world as it leads

A robot dog that talks back may sound like a novelty. In this case, it is meant to solve a practical problem: guide dogs can lead, but they cannot explain. That gap is what researchers at Binghamton University and State University of New York, set out to address with a robotic guide dog system that uses a large language model to hold spoken conversations with visually impaired users. The machine can suggest routes, explain trade-offs before a trip begins, and describe what is happening during the walk itself. “For this work, we’re demonstrating an aspect of the robotic guide dog that is more advanced than biological guide dogs,” said Shiqi Zhang, an associate professor at the Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science’s School of Computing. “Real dogs can understand around 20 commands at best. But for robotic guide dogs, you can just put GPT-4 with voice commands. Then it has very strong language capabilities.” The project builds on earlier work from Zhang’s team, which trained robotic guide dogs to respond to leash …

Spain leads Europe’s shift away from Donald Trump’s US – POLITICO

Spain leads Europe’s shift away from Donald Trump’s US – POLITICO

People in Spain also indicated a broad willingness to rush to the defense of an EU country under attack from a foreign power, and large backing for a European army. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has stood out as the U.S. president’s chief critic in Europe and an outspoken opponent of the war in Iran. After Madrid banned the U.S. from using jointly operated military bases or the country’s airspace to carry out attacks in the Middle East, Trump issued an ultimately empty threat to cut commercial ties with Spain. The European Pulse survey, conducted by Cluster17 for POLITICO and beBartlet, polled 6,698 Europeans across Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Poland and Belgium from March 13 to March 21. Fifty-six percent of people in Spain said they strongly disapprove of the U.S.-Israeli offensive against Iran and 43 percent said Madrid should publicly oppose the military operation and push for an end to the conflict. Only Italian respondents indicated stronger opposition. Of the six countries polled, respondents in Spain were least in favor of remaining neutral and …

Times deputy head of digital Anna Sbuttoni, Times homepage on 7 April 2026, and Times story ‘The day coal died’ The Times says a strategy of publishing “fewer, better stories” has led to three consecutive months of record-breaking global audience growth. The Times news desk has reduced the number of stories it publishes by 20% since the mindset change while the sports desk cut its output by 30%. But deputy head of digital Anna Sbuttoni said “they didn’t lose any audience. In fact, they gained it.” Across the whole newsroom, The Times has gone from publishing more than 200 stories a day to about 150 – a 25% cut. This was not a cost-cutting exercise, Sbuttoni said, with staff levels remaining neutral. She added: “We’ve had three consecutive months of all-time, record-breaking audience growth at The Times,” referring to internal global traffic figures for the website and app (excluding Apple News), “and we’re publishing fewer stories than we ever have.” Sbuttoni said organic search traffic to the website was up 29% year on year and …
