How to tweak Instagram’s algorithm to show you the content you really want

Ever felt like social media sites don’t really care about your interests anymore, instead showing you random stuff you don’t even like? Instagram is taking some steps to change that. Instagram chief Adam Mosseri announced the change on Threads on Wednesday, with Instagram adding a new feature called Your Algorithm. “As software gets better at predicting what we want, our sense of agency gets smaller. The main feed on every major app is now mostly accounts you never decided to follow, surfaced by algorithms rather than your explicit choices,” he wrote. No s***, Sherlock. Mashable Light Speed The way to remedy that is through the Your Algorithm tool, which allows you to choose which topics you want to see in your Instagram feed. While this sounds like the same thing you go through when signing up for a new social site, Your Algorithm is a welcome change as these topics previously weren’t explicitly visible on Instagram. It also gives you the option to choose the topics you don’t want to see. When I checked my …

Ryan Murphy, Bret Easton Ellis FX Show Gets Premiere Date

The late summer TV calendar is getting a little more jagged: FX has set a premiere date for The Shards. The drama, based on a novel by Bret Easton Ellis and executive produced by Ryan Murphy, is set to debut Aug. 5 on FX and Hulu. The premiere date caps a winding road for The Shards, which Ellis initially developed at HBO in 2024. It stalled there before Murphy and FX rescued it in May 2025; a series order followed two months later. Ellis published The Shards in print form in 2023 after first releasing it as a serialized audiobook on his podcast. The novel is set in 1980s Los Angeles and takes inspiration from Ellis’ high school days. Here’s how FX describes it: “The series follows a group of privileged high school seniors at an elite prep school as they navigate identity, sex, jealousy, obsession and the dangers lurking beneath the surface of American adolescence. “At its center is Bret (Igby Rigney), an aspiring writer and keenly observant teenager whose reality begins to unravel …

Anything between 10 and 30 companions, depending on your definition. Several thousand cast members (a figure that’s pretty much impossible to be precise about.) Thank you to each and every one of them.” He added: “And the biggest thanks to my colleagues who invited me on board way back when and became my great friends @russelltdavies63 & @juliegardnerbwa. But for some models, this year’s event — streaming Tuesday on Hulu and Disney+ — highlighted a less glamorous reality: Women still can’t escape criticism of their bodies, even on a runway designed to celebrate them. “I feel like for so long I was so afraid to talk about my body, my weight loss surgery, anything relating to health … because I’ve become so afraid of what people say online or think of me,” influencer Remi Bader said in a recent Instagram video, responding to a wave of negative comments about her Sports Illustrated runway look. “At this point, I can’t win.” While celebrities are hardly immune to scrutiny, the recent online discourse around bodies has grown more fraught as culture has shifted away from the body-positivity movement that dominated the 2010s. The change coincides with …

New York Magazine Editor Debuts First Solo Sculpture Show

New York Magazine Editor Debuts First Solo Sculpture Show

David Haskell spends his days running New York Magazine. Twice a week, he goes to the Brooklyn Navy Yard and throws clay. The editor in chief of one of the country’s most influential magazines has spent the last dozen years quietly building a second life as a sculptor. Now, that work is the subject of his first solo exhibition, Boom Beach, at Donzella Ltd., a design gallery tucked away on the fifteenth floor of the New York Design Center at 200 Lexington Avenue. Haskell is exactly what you’d expect the editor in chief of New York Magazine to look like. When I visited the gallery, he was dressed in brown leather chukka boots, a pinstripe suit with peak lapels, and a striped button-down worn open at the collar. A thin gold chain peeked out from beneath the shirt. He carried himself with the kind of easy confidence. If there was any anxiety about presenting his first solo exhibition, he didn’t show it.
