Heads up, app developers: Apple is getting even more serious about privacy

This article originally appeared on BGR. Apple has made its stance around privacy and the way it handles user data a centerpiece of the company under CEO Tim Cook, who’s been one of the most high-profile pro-privacy champions in tech. Until now, though, there’s been an area of Apple’s vast operation that’s fallen somewhat short of that promise, and a new announcement from the company is changing that. In an announcement posted to app developers, Apple says it’s making a shift in its approach to the developer community. Starting Oct. 3, every single app including those still in testing will be required to have a privacy policy in place in order to be submitted for distribution on the App Store or through TestFlight external testing. Cool ideas for enjoying the World Cup as a family

Every American kid knows about the Super Bowl and the World Series. But the World Cup may be less familiar — unless you play the so-called “beautiful game,” or your family has roots in a soccer-obsessed country such as Brazil. The international tournament is becoming more popular in the United States, though it’s been a cherished event for families around the globe since the 1930s. Governed by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association(FIFA), the World Cup takes place every four years with 32 countries competing during one very intense month of the summer. This year, the games are being played in various cities throughout Russia, including Sochi, which hosted the 2014 Olympics. The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be broadcast in English on Fox and in Spanish on Telemundo from June 14 through July 15. Both channels are offering tons of coverage and extra goodies on their apps and websites. Whether soccer brings memories from your childhood or you’re new to the drama, excitement, and international flavor of the games, these tips can help your whole family get in on the …

What a friend we have in Black Jesus: “Jesus Christ Superstar Live”

What a friend we have in Black Jesus: “Jesus Christ Superstar Live”

Brothers! Sisters! Have you heard the good news? This Sunday on NBC, the holiday covenant between broadcast television and viewer shall be fulfilled in all of its live glory and, if the hype is worth anything, shall mark the rebirth of a flagging trend. After you’ve had your fill of ham and Peeps, gather thy people upon the couch at 8 p.m. on Sunday, when unto us another musical will be given: Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.” Yea, there will be a great wave of tweeting surging across the land, along with shouts of joy and cackles of ridicule. You may be wondering why any televised live musical is worth your time these days. Who can blame you? Until NBC announced this special it was widely assumed the thrill of live musical theater on TV was gone. But once upon a time we flocked to it, particularly when Carrie Underwood starred as Maria in NBC’s December 2013 broadcast of “The Sound of Music Live!” Five years ago its success shocked the …

5 VPNs that can help you maintain your internet privacy

Even for those of us that saw the bad news inevitably creeping closer and closer (like that one strange dude on the train during your morning commute), it’s still jarring that the plane proverbially landed. Net neutrality is dead, folks — the time of death pronounced officially by the FCC. What does that mean for we average citizens? As it turns out, a lot: the FCC’s ruling allows large Internet Service Providers (ISPs) like Xfinity, Verizon, RCN, and others to charge customers’ premium rates for faster Internet access. Sure, that means annoying stuff — like an endless barrage of aggressive targeted advertising — but also has darker intonations. One is the death of innovation and voice from smaller companies who can’t compete with the funds the big guns bring in, but secondly, all that snooping into our data and browsing history is a mourning bell chiming for our privacy. ISPs can now take that data and sell it (yep) to the highest bidder — whoever that bidder may be. If complete deregulation of the Internet sounds …
