A growing amount of research suggests that sexual orientation has a genetic basis. If sexuality is genetically determined, this means identical twins should always have the same orientation, right? While that might seem like a logical conclusion, it’s not true. Identical twins sometimes have different orientations. For example, one may be straight while the other is gay. How can that be? Same Genes, Different Attractions In cases like this, it might be tempting to assume that both twins are actually gay, but one just hasn’t come out yet. In other words, maybe there isn’t a true discrepancy. However, science doesn’t support this interpretation. In a study where scientists looked at the sexual arousal patterns of identical twins with different sexualities (specifically, where one was gay and the other was straight), they found that gay twins demonstrated more genital arousal in response to same-sex images, whereas straight twins demonstrated more arousal in response to opposite-sex images. A woman who had sex with identical twins separately “within four days of each other” has been told it is not possible to identify which one is the father of her baby. The mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, and one of the twins took the case to court after the other brother was named as the father on the child’s birth certificate. The pair launched the legal action as they wanted to be legally recognised as having parental responsibility for the baby, known as child P. A family court judge declined to remove the name of the alleged “father” on the birth certificate, prompting the woman and the other twin to take the case to the Court of Appeal in London. But a panel of judges there have now ruled it is “not possible” to know for sure who the father is. The court heard that DNA testing could not distinguish which of the men was the father, although scientists may potentially be able to do so in the future. But Sir …

For billions of years before reaching its current location, the Sun may have slowly travelled as part of a large group, or “wave,” of stars drifting out from the inner parts of the Milky Way. This ancient migration is what astronomers believe enabled the Sun to travel to the outer regions of the Galaxy. Although, the Sun was confined to the more densely populated areas near the center due to gravitational interactions with other stars. Assistant Professors Daisuke Taniguchi from Tokyo Metropolitan University and Takuji Tsujimoto from the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan have found evidence that many of the stars closely resembling our Sun, known as solar twins, are associated with each other. They possibly were moving together around the Milky Way billions of years ago. This has helped to resolve an ongoing mystery for scientists as to how the Sun arrived at its current position in the Milky Way. In fact, the Sun was limited to the inner parts. With Bitcoin down by over 40 percent since its record highs in fall of 2025, Bloomberg reports that shares for Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss’ crypto marketplace have collapsed by more than 80 percent from their 2025 highs, wiping out over $3 billion in market value. The situation seems to be rattling the enterprise to its core, coming the same week that Gemini moved to kick its chief operating officer, financial officer, and legal officer to the curb. In many democracies today, trust in politics is either very low or in decline. This is a noteworthy development in its own right, but it may be especially important because trust is associated with several other important outcomes, for example, whether we vote and whether we comply with the law. The latter became particularly apparent during the pandemic, when it turned out that people who trusted politicians more were more likely to comply with lockdown rules. Political scientists often think about trust as a dynamic concept. When politicians perform poorly, our trust falls. And there is plenty of evidence for this. When the economy performs badly or when politicians are embroiled in scandals, trust tends to be lower. This way of thinking about trust is obviously helpful, but one problem is that it is hard to explain why people’s levels of political trust tend to be stable. Once people reach a level of trust in early adulthood, they don’t tend to change it very much afterwards. And people don’t always have as strong a reaction …

The team said Friday that López’s surgery will be performed next week in Texas by Rangers team physician Dr. Keith Meister. López turns 30 early next month. It will be the second Tommy John surgery for López. He had the procedure as a minor leaguer with the Seattle organization and missed the 2014 season. López ended a bullpen session early during the Twins’ first full-squad workout Monday. Princess Charlene, Prince Albert and their twins, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella made a rare family appearance at the Winter Olympic Games in Milan over the weekend.  The Monaco royal family wrapped up warm on Sunday to watch the skeleton mixed team competition, donning beanie hats and ski jackets to observe the action at the Cortina Sliding Centre.  Eleven-year-old twins Jacques and Gabriella were clearly making the most of their school holidays, grinning from ear to ear as they cheered on the athletes, having earlier attended the women’s curling tournament.   The outing also made for a special occasion for their parents, who famously went public with their relationship during the opening ceremony of the Turin Games in 2006.
