Woman in her 70s killed in UK’s third fatal dog attack in a week | UK News

A woman in her 70s has died after being attacked by two dogs in a house in Wolverhampton. West Midlands Police said officers were called to Willis Pearson Avenue at around 11.30pm on Wednesday but the victim died at the scene. A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and causing injury resulting in death. He was taken to hospital after his hand was injured in the incident. Police said the dogs were destroyed at the house due to “continued aggression” when emergency services arrived. They are not believed to be banned breeds. The incident follows two other fatal dog attacks last week; a three-month-old girl died in Redcar, near Middlesbrough, and 19-year-old Jamie-Lea Biscoe died after being found with serious injuries in Leaden Roding, Essex. Deaths from dog bites increased more than 200% in a year, according to a new report on accidental deaths and hospital admissions. Source link

70s comedians Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise’s real names revealed

Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise formed one of Britain’s most iconic comedy duos with Morecambe and Wise, and they dominated the comedy scene from the early 1960s all the way until Eric’s unexpected death in 1984. Due to World War II, the pair had to put their act on hold as they served their country, but following the war, they reunited. In the 1960s and 1970s, their popularity exploded and they initially hosted Two of a Kind on ATV, before swapping to the BBC, where they started presenting The Morecambe & Wise Show. The show became a Christmas institution, and in 1977, the pair secured one of the largest viewing figures …

Today’s society is many ways built on a platform of constant stimulation and comfort. Dad’s Army remains one of Britain’s favourite sitcoms. The BBC show, which revolves around members of the Home Guard during World War II, is still regularly being broadcast. One of the show’s signature stars was Arnold Ridley, who played the ineffective Private Godfrey, a conscientious objector during World War I, although he still saw active service as a stretcher bearer, an achievement that saw him made the platoon’s First Aid Officer. While his character was an objector to the war, Arnold served in World War I, before being medically discharged in 1917. He fought in the Battle of the Somme, picking up injuries that left his left hand useless. He also received shrapnel injuries in his legs, and continued to have blackouts following the war after receiving a blow to the head from an enemy’s rifle butt. Born in 1896, Arnold was aged 76 when he landed a role in the sitcom, which was first aired in 1968 before ending in 1977. He made his screen debut back in 1949, appearing as Mr Saunders in …

Even Sombr’s Off-Duty Style Is Straight Out of the ’70s

Even Sombr’s Off-Duty Style Is Straight Out of the ’70s

The Studio City Farmers Market in Los Angeles is famous for offering an impressive variety of treats. On any ordinary Sunday, one might be able to find a jam made of locally harvested berries, or Salvadorian pupusas, or, perhaps most notably, a well-heeled celebrity on the hunt for such organic fare. It’s a big day in a young talent’s life when he gets photographed at the notoriously star-filled bazaar, and such a badge of honor was bestowed this past weekend upon the 20-year-old musician Sombr, who was spotted slinking through the market’s tents with an iced coffee in hand. One imagines it’s hard to miss Sombr, whose real name is Shane Michael Boose, at any given locale given his dizzying six-foot-something stature. (He jokingly claims to be “six seven.”) But the Grammy-nominated artist also stands out for his neo-retro sense of style, which he has honed under the direction of his stylist, former GQ fashion editor Brandon Tan. On stage, Sombr’s mode of dress can primarily be described as indie glam for a generation that …
