France’s National Gambling Authority (ANJ) has ordered French internet service providers to block access to the Polymarket website, saying the platform promotes gambling services that are not authorized to operate in the country. The order was issued on Thursday (July 16) after the ANJ concluded the platform was still reaching users in France despite earlier enforcement efforts intended to restrict access. According to the regulator, it has been monitoring services provided by ADVENTURE ONE QSS INC. through the Polymarket website since November 2024. Officials said the company’s offerings may qualify as unauthorized gambling under French law. A fast-moving wildfire in southern France forced the evacuation of dozens of homes on Sunday as more than 600 firefighters and a fleet of water-bombing aircraft battled to contain the blaze, authorities said. Fanned by strong winds and dry vegetation after days of extreme heat, the fire broke out near the town of Draguignan in the Mediterranean Var region. The blaze burned 10 homes, damaged nine others and left one firefighter with minor injuries, according to the prefecture. The wildfire comes as southern France endures another heatwave, with temperatures having passed 40C in parts of the Var region on Saturday. Pogacar reacted to Vingegaard’s devastating news by revealing that doping controls came at 2am local time, disrupting the riders’ sleep, which could have contributed to a lack of concentration during the stage and an unfortunate crash. The news comes after Belgian Remco Evenepoel beat race leader Pogacar to the finish line to win stage 15. But earlier in the stage, two-time champion Vingegaard ⁠went down with three ​other ⁠riders at a tight corner, after his front wheel clipped a curb about ⁠20km from the finish. I haven’t read the bill, but here are a few notes I discerned from various media reports: The bill does not require terminal illness. Rather, it requires a “serious and incurable illness” that “threatens life in an advanced or terminal stage” — meaning death could be years away. The patient must also experience “constant physical or psychological suffering” related to the disease that is “resistant to treatment or unbearable” (as defined by the patient). Psychological suffering alone does not make one eligible for hastened death. There is no time set for when a disease “threatens life.” Only French legal residents and citizens 18 and over …

Jonas Vingegaard, the 29-year-old Dane, who was sitting second overall in the 2026 Tour de France, abandoned the race on Sunday after a heavy crash about 20 kilometres from the finish of the 15th stage at the Plateau de Solaison. Vingegaard went down in a roundabout, taking down several of his Visma-Lease a Bike teammates and Mexican rider Isaac del Toro, who was able to continue. The winner of the Tour in 2022 and 2023 climbed into the ambulance with his right arm in a sling, writhing in pain. Yellow jersey wearer Tadej Pogacar managed to avoid the crash.  Vingegaard was visibly in pain following the crash, which caused another four riders to also fall. France’s National Gaming Authority (ANJ) has ordered the country’s internet service providers to block access to Polymarket, the crypto-based prediction market. This decision came after determining the platform was illegally promoting gambling and games of chance to French users. The blocking order, issued July 16 by the ANJ’s president, applies to all Polymarket sites operated by ADVENTURE ONE QSS INC.
