Mike Myers makes unrecognizable rare appearance to honour Eddie Murphy at the AFI Life Achievement Awards

Mike Myers makes unrecognizable rare appearance to honour Eddie Murphy at the AFI Life Achievement Awards

There are red carpet moments, and then there are movie history moments. Mike Myers delivered the latter in spectacular style as he stepped out in one of his most unexpected appearances in years to honour longtime friend and collaborator Eddie Murphy at the prestigious AFI Life Achievement Awards. In a move that instantly delighted fans, Mike appeared wearing a full green prosthetic mask, transforming himself into none other than Shrek, the beloved ogre he famously voiced. It was a playful, deeply nostalgic tribute that nodded to the pair’s enduring on-screen partnership. Because of course, long before this awards night reunion, the two icons created cinematic magic together in Shrek, with Mike voicing the grumpy-but-lovable ogre and Eddie bringing the endlessly energetic Donkey to life. Their chemistry became the beating heart of the franchise, turning it into one of the most successful animated series of all time. © Getty Images for AFIDave Chappelle, Eddie Murphy, posed with AFI Lifetime Achievement award, and Mike Myers attend the 51st AFI Life Achievement Award Taking to the stage, still fully …

Eddie Murphy Receives 2026 AFI Life Achievement Award at Starry Gala

Eddie Murphy didn’t have a ton to say after a two-hour tribute inside Hollywood’s Dolby Theater Saturday night as he received the 51st AFI Life Achievement Award. The crowd — filled with a who’s who of comedy heavyweights, studio heads, Oscar winners, filmmakers, actors and fans — laughed at the quip. But there might’ve been some truth to it, too, as no award could measure up to the larger-than-life career Murphy built across five decades. At 65, Murphy said he found his way to the stage at just the right time. Accomplished enough to deserve it, young enough to fully enjoy the friends, collaborators and family members who filled out the black-tie event, and still spicy enough to toss out some of his signature humor. Spike Lee, the last in a starry parade of presenters to honor Murphy, had the task of presenting him with that …

AFI Awards Bring Timothée Chalamet and Leonardo DiCaprio Together Again

The American Film Institute awards luncheon, honoring the top 10 films and TV shows of the year, just kicked off a busy awards weekend that will wrap up with Sunday night’s Golden Globe Awards. But every year, the AFI luncheon stands out to those in the room because there are no losers—all the invitees are there to represent movies and TV shows that were already named the best of 2025. There are no acceptance speeches, either—just a warm lunch and some inspiring words, as well as montages from the films and TV shows. “This is so nice. It’s my favorite. It’s so chill,” one film producer could be heard telling another guest. Spielberg, Laura Dern, and George Clooney Stefanie Keenan/Getty Images This year’s film honorees were Avatar: Fire And Ash, Bugonia, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Jay Kelly, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, Sinners, Train Dreams, and Wicked: For Good and the TV honorees were Adolescence, Andor, Death By Lightning, The Diplomat, The Lowdown, The Pitt, Pluribus, Severance, The Studio, and Task.
