WHAT IMPACT WILL HIS DEATH HAVE ON THE CARTEL? There are a few potential scenarios, and a lot will depend on what succession plans Jalisco New Generation had in the event of Oseguera Cervantes’ capture or killing. In general, these types of operations – in which security forces take out a cartel leader – lead to more violence, for a variety of reasons. Mexicans have already experienced the immediate aftermath of Oseguera Cervantes’ death: retaliation attacks, blockades and official attempts to prevent civilians from going out. This is similar to what occurred after the capture of drug lord Ovidio Guzmán López in Sinaloa in 2019 and his second capture in 2023. Violence flares in two ways following such high-profile captures and killings of cartel leaders. In the short term, there is retaliation. At the moment, members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel are seeking revenge against Mexico’s security forces and are also trying to assert their regional authority despite El Mencho’s death. For many adults, an ADHD diagnosis arrives with an unexpected sense of relief. Suddenly, the struggles make sense. The exhausting effort, the mental overload, the difficulty keeping up despite trying so very hard. These experiences finally have an explanation. For the first time, many people realize that their challenges were not caused by laziness, lack of motivation, or not caring enough. Their brains simply work differently. But this relief is usually short-lived. Soon after the diagnosis, another feeling rises to the surface, one that is quieter, heavier, and sometimes confusing. Grief. Grief for a childhood that might have felt less difficult if someone had noticed sooner. Grief for years spent working harder than others just to keep up. Grief for the version of yourself who carried unnecessary shame, believing you simply weren’t good enough. Adults I see in my practice are often surprised by how strong this emotional response can be. An ADHD diagnosis rarely affects just one person; its impact is felt throughout a family. Nearly 150 flood alerts remain in place across England as communities continue grappling with the aftermath of Storm Chandra. A yellow rain alert spanning from noon to midnight on Thursday has been issued for parts of south-west England, with the Met Office warning that more flooding could hit roads, homes and businesses. The alert covers Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Plymouth, Somerset, Torbay and Wiltshire. A further yellow warning for rain spanning from 6am on Friday until 9am on Saturday has been issued for Cornwall, Devon, Plymouth, Somerset and Torbay.
