She was 57. The Morocco-born star had been in a coma since the incident, which reportedly occurred at a private club in the 9th arrondissement on 11 April. Her daughters shared that Farès died on Friday (17 April). “It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Nadia Farès this Friday,” their statement to AFP said. “France has lost a great artist, but for us, it is above all a mother we have just lost.” The sisters requested “respect and discretion” while they mourned their mother. Kershaw’s family announced the death of the broadcaster, months after sharing his spinal cancer diagnosis. He was diagnosed in August 2025, and had been left unable to walk. He was best known for his 15-year stint on Radio 1, where he championed world music. Ever since, ads for gambling apps and online casinos like DraftKings, FanDuel, and BetMGM have become virtually inescapable across social media and TV. Meanwhile, lawmakers are becoming concerned over a steep rise in gambling addiction and calls to gambling helplines. The sheer scale of the trend in the United States is ominous. According to a recent survey of adult Americans by the Siena Research Institute (SRI) and St. Bonaventure University, more than half of men aged 18 to 49 said they had an active account with at least one online sports betting service — and an astonishing 46 percent of them said they’re actively betting on the platforms. ’60s pin-up star Joy Harmon has passed away aged 87, after falling ill with pneumonia and battling the illness for several weeks. The mother of three, best known for her role in 1967’s Cool Hand Luke alongside Paul Newman, died in her Los Angeles home on Tuesday, April 14, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Saunders was born in Newport, South Wales, and went on to study at the London School of Economics and Political Science before kickstarting his journalism career at the Gloucestershire Echo. He moved on to the Sunderland Echo in 1962 as a sports reporter and sub-editor before joining the Yorkshire Post the following year. A former lecturer in journalism at Cardiff College of Commerce, he started work at the Birmingham Post in 1984, rising from sub-editor to assistant chief sub-editor, chief sub-editor, assistant editor, deputy editor, executive editor and, eventually, editor. He was at the helm of the Post from 1984 until 1989. While working at the Birmingham Post, Saunders was also a guest lecturer for the International Institute for Journalism in Berlin – a role he held from 1973 until his retirement. Veteran actor John Nolan, uncle to director Christopher and TV producer Jonathan, has died at the age of 87. His screen career began in the 1960s with supporting roles in ITV Playhouse and The Prisoner, which preceded more substantial parts as the title character in 1970’s Daniel Deronda and Geoff Hardcastle in cult sci-fi favourite Doomwatch. Off-screen, Nolan was also an accomplished theatre performer, having once been a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, where he acted in productions of Measure for Measure, Julius Caesar and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In the later part of his career, Nolan became known for collaborations with his nephews, both of whom have forged highly successful careers in the film and television industry. John appeared in the feature directorial debut of now-legendary director Christopher Nolan, titled Following, portraying a policeman in the neo-noir crime thriller.
