Qatar partially reopens airspace as Iranian strikes continue to hit Gulf | Aviation News

Evacuation and cargo flights to resume but scheduled services still suspended as US-Israeli war on Iran continues. Listen to this article | 4 mins info Qatar has partially reopened its airspace days after Iranian missile and drone strikes forced the country to ground all flights as a United States-Israeli military campaign against Iran continues into its seventh day. The Qatar Civil Aviation Authority announced the limited opening on Friday evening, saying flights would operate through “designated navigational contingency routes with limited operational capacity” in coordination with the Qatari armed forces. Recommended Stories list of 3 itemsend of list The move marks a cautious first step towards restoring air links to one of the Gulf’s most important aviation hubs but falls well short of a return to normality, with scheduled commercial flights to and from Doha remaining suspended until a further official announcement is made. The Qatar Civil Aviation Authority said the partial reopening covers only a narrow category of flights “designated for passenger evacuation” and air cargo services. Passengers with confirmed bookings were urged to follow updates …

US says it is nearing ‘complete control’ of Iran’s airspace

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine speak at a press briefing at the Pentagon, in Washington, on March 4, 2026. KONSTANTIN TOROPIN / AP The United States expects to have “complete” control of Iranian airspace in the coming hours, the White House said on Wednesday, March 4, the fifth day of US-Israeli operations against the Islamic Republic of Iran. “We expect to have complete and total dominance over Iranian airspace in the coming hours,” Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said earlier in the day that the United States and Israel “will have complete control of Iranian skies, uncontested airspace,” without giving a specific timeline. That means “we will fly all day, all night, day and night, finding, fixing and finishing the missiles and defense industrial base of the Iranian military,” Hegseth said. President Donald Trump on Wednesday rated the US performance in the war with Iran as a 15 on a scale of 10, saying the Islamic Republic of Iran’s leaders …

EU scrambles for unity as Iran crisis exposes transatlantic rift – POLITICO

At the national level, however, Europe’s message was less unified. In a joint statement, France, Germany and the United Kingdom stressed they “did not participate in these strikes” by the U.S. and Israel, while condemning Iranian counterattacks and urging Tehran to seek to a “negotiated solution.” British Prime Minister Keir Starmer emulated that balancing act, saying the U.K. had “played no role” in the strikes while condemning Iran’s “abhorrent” regime and saying Washington’s “primary aim” was to prevent Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons. Starmer added that British planes were already in the air as part of coordinated regional defense operations. Elsewhere in Europe, Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez condemned the U.S.-Israeli operation as a “unilateral military action” that risks creating a more hostile global order. Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, meanwhile, took the opposite line, saying Prague “stands by our allies” and warning that Iran’s nuclear ambitions and its “support for terrorism” pose a threat to Europe. Nordic and Eastern European leaders took a more security-focused line. Sweden’s prime minister warned of a “serious escalation” …

Airspace closed, airlines halt flights as US, Israel attack, Iran responds | Aviation News

At least eight countries, including Iran, Israel, Jordan and Qatar, shutter airspace as global air travel severely hit. Listen to this article | 4 mins info A wave of United States and Israeli strikes on Iran, and retaliation by Tehran on targets across the region have forced much of the Middle East’s airspace to shut down, with reverberations across the globe. At least eight states declared their airspace closed as the conflict erupted Saturday, including Iran, Israel, Iraq, Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. Syria also announced it had closed part of its airspace in the south along its border with Israel for 12 hours. Recommended Stories list of 3 itemsend of list The closures came after the US and Israel carried out attacks across Iran that US President Donald Trump pledged would raze Iran’s missile industry and destroy its navy. Iran, which had been engaged in negotiations with the US over its nuclear programme right up until the attack, pledged a harsh response and soon began waging retaliatory strikes in Israel, as well as …

Iran reopens airspace after hours-long shutdown spooks airlines

Security forces are seen during a pro-government rally on Jan. 12, 2026 in Tehran, Iran. Getty Images | Getty Images News | Getty Images Iran reopened its airspace early Thursday after a temporary closure that barred most incoming and outgoing flights for several hours amid concerns the U.S. could carry out military strikes, raising risks for airlines. The restriction, which ended at 3:30 a.m UTC, or 10:30 p.m. EST Wednesday, was in place for 5 hours. Live data from flight tracker FlightRadar24 showed most aircraft still skirting Iranian airspace as of 4 a.m. UTC, though some domestic carriers had begun resuming flights. The initial order exempted international flights to and from Tehran, provided they received prior approval from Iran’s civil aviation authority. The airspace closure comes as tensions escalated after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened intervention following a deadly crackdown on anti-government protests in Iran. Trump has publicly said he would “come to the rescue” of Iranian protestors if the violent crackdown continued. The U.S. has begun relocating some personnel and equipment from American military …
