‘Stranger Things: Tales From ’85’ review: This baffling prequel won’t cure the Season 5 hatred

Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 might be the most bizarre step Stranger Things could have taken. Take the release date, for starters. Tales From ’85 airs just four months after the Stranger Things series finale. That gives fans barely any breathing room between the end of the flagship series and the beginning of this animated spin-off, proof of Netflix’s ambitious, nonstop designs to turn one of its most original shows into a massive franchise. (It’s already got a stage play, books, and games to its name.) SEE ALSO: ‘Stranger Things’ fans are furious about the finale. Here’s why. There’s just one big wrinkle in that plan: Stranger Things‘ final season was so controversial, it left distraught fans theorizing about a secret surprise episode and accusing the Duffer Brothers of writing Season 5 with ChatGPT. The outrage is still too fresh for another TV trip to Hawkins, Indiana, to go the way Netflix hoped. That trip back to Hawkins doesn’t actually move the story of Stranger Things forward. Instead, Tales From ’85 returns to the past, …

Starbucks’ Baffling ChatGPT Collab Treats Customers Like Empty, Soulless Venti Cups

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech As AI chatbots go, OpenAI’s ChatGPT isn’t the most provocative. Its relentlessly upbeat, hand-holding style has drawn constant criticism for coming across as condescending. Still, Starbucks’ newly announced partnership with the chatbot may have pushed that paternalism to a whole new level. Announced on Wednesday, the new “Starbucks app” is basically a widget within ChatGPT. After enabling Starbucks connectivity in the ChatGPT app, users can type “@Starbucks” to receive “personalized drink recommendations tailored to your taste, mood, and goals.” According to the Starbucks press release, this can include prompts like “I want something bright to start my morning,” and even ridiculous requests like “recommend a drink that matches the vibe of my outfit.” “You don’t need to know the name of a drink, just start with how you’re feeling or what you’re craving — in your own words or through a photo,” the presser enthuses. “It’s discovery that feels effortless.” We tried out the beta, and though it …

Ten thousand roses. Twelve episodes of reality TV. And… no marriage licence? In 2023, the Love Island star turned TV presenter Olivia Attwood documented the lead-up to her wedding to footballer boyfriend Bradley Dack in the ITV show Olivia Marries Her Match. In the final episode, which took viewers behind the scenes of their fancy ceremony at London’s Bvlgari Hotel, the bride and groom signed what appeared to be some official paperwork, formalising their newly-wedded status. Afterwards, they referred to each other as husband and wife, with Attwood swapping her surname for a newly hyphenated version on her social media accounts. They even recorded a special episode of her podcast all about wedded bliss. And if a celebrity couple says …

Romeo Is a Dead Man review | Suda51 shines with baffling brilliance

Romeo Is a Dead Man review | Suda51 shines with baffling brilliance

A star rating of 4 out of 5. The games of Suda51 and his studio, Grasshopper Manufacture, are unlike any others. The auteur behind cult classics such as The Silver Case and Killer7 has never held back with his creative vision, flooding his games with anything and everything he can conjure from the corners of his imagination. Now, as Grasshopper prepares to ship its first ever self-published game, Suda has unleashed his staff with that same limitless freedom to do what they do best, resulting in a mishmash of game mechanics, art styles, narrative arcs and music that has no right to work together, but does so with aplomb. Romeo Is a Dead Man stars the titular Romeo Stargazer. Straddling the line between life and death as a ‘Dead Man’ after his mad scientist grandfather pulls him back from the brink, he is enlisted in the FBI Space-Time Police, sent off to slice up interdimensional criminals and find his missing girlfriend Juliet. It’s a characteristically ‘Suda’ setup, and I promise it makes more sense when …

Former HMIs’ game of ‘guess the grade’ was baffling

Former HMIs’ game of ‘guess the grade’ was baffling

How do pupils “thrive” in a school where curriculum and teaching aren’t rated as ‘strong’? This and other questions were raised by the first Ofsted reports, says Adrian Lyons Guess the grade became a new parlour game among some of my former HMI colleagues when the first Ofsted inspection reports under the new framework were published on Monday. Readers may wish to play along. Take, for example, a secondary school in the east of England. Here is an extract from the report’s evaluation of leadership and governance: “The interests of pupils and their families are at the forefront of every action taken in this school… Leaders and governors have addressed the weaknesses highlighted in the last inspection… The culture of the school has improved… “Governors have an accurate oversight of the school and ensure leaders are held to account… Staff are proud to work in the school and value the care and attention leaders and governors give to workload and work-life balance.” This reads as a highly positive account of leadership: purposeful, reflective, inclusive and …
