After its first run back in 2024 won two RTS North East and the Borders Awards, BBC comedy series Smoggie Queens is almost back for season 2 – and there are some big stars joining the cast. A set of first-look images have been released for the Middlesbrough-based show’s second season, which will be released on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer this spring, showing off both the new and returning characters. New stars joining for season 2 include Mr Bates vs The Post Office actor Monica Dolan, along with Amalia Vitale and Freya Parker. Meanwhile, sports broadcasters Jeff Stelling and Chris Kamara will both also be making an appearance, and are seen in one of the images alongside returning star Steph McGovern. When Nigel Bates returned to EastEnders in 2024 after 26 years, fans with fond memories of the 90s hoped stepdaughter Clare would follow. It may have taken Nigel’s worsening dementia to bring the character back to Walford, but at last the time has come. It’s not just the audience who’ve been waiting for this emotional reunion; Gemma Bissix herself admits that since Paul Bradley rejoined the cast as her fictional father, she’s been poised to reprise the role of Clare, who she first played back in 1993 when she was just nine years old. “I was definitely hoping, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t,” she begins, speaking exclusively to Radio Times. “This time last year, when I went back to Hollyoaks (where she plays devious Clare Devine, more of her later) my agent contacted EastEnders about my potential availability, and they said they’d been thinking about bringing Clare back but much further down the line. Gemma Bissix has opened up about her emotional return to EastEnders after 18 years, a role she had always hoped to reprise. EastEnders recently confirmed that Bissix would return to Walford for a short stint in which emotions will run high as old wounds are reopened with Julie Bates (Karen Henthorn) along with some classic soapy drama. Bissix’s return is part of Nigel’s ongoing dementia storyline, in which news will reach Clare that her estranged stepdad has young-onset dementia diagnosis, and is shocked to confront the reality of his worsening cognitive ability.For Bissix, the storyline is close to her heart due to her friend’s father having early onset dementia. MILAN, Feb 12 : Triple world ice dance champions Madison Chock and Evan Bates will leave the Milano Cortina Olympics with silver medals, but also an outpouring of support from fans questioning the judging that denied them gold.  Debate around Wednesday night’s ice dance victory by French duo Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron has sparked a petition on Change.org calling for the International Skating Union to review the scoring. Despite the swirl around them, Chock and Bates said on Thursday they were holding tight to the emotion of their performance and the belief it was the strongest of their career. “We haven’t studied (the scoring) in depth, but we did speak to our coach and we did talk to each other, and we know how we felt on centre ice after we skated,” Bates, 36, said.  “We felt like we delivered our absolute best performance that we could have. MILAN — One of the ice dance teams who stood on the podium Wednesday night has been a figure skating pair for 15 years, a couple for nine, and married for nearly two. Their chief rivals have been partners for less than a year, with one of the skaters competing for her fourth country internationally. Unfortunately for the former, the latter still won. Jan 10 : Ilia Malinin, ‌a red-hot favourite for gold at next month’s Milano-Cortina Olympics, cruised to a fourth consecutive national title at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships on Saturday, while Madison Chock and Evan Bates captured a record seventh national ice dance crown. Malinin, who separated himself from the field in St. Louis with a remarkable performance in Thursday’s short programme, returned to score 209.78 points in the free skate for a 324.88 total in his final tune-up for the Olympics.
