Transgender stalker who treatened to ‘batter’ surgeon will serve sentence in women’s jail | UK | News

Taylor has been sent to a wing at a women’s prison in Surrey (Image: Met Police) Women’s rights campaigners are furious after a dangerous trans prisoner who threatened to “batter” a female surgeon was moved to a women’s prison. Vivienne Taylor, 28, who was born a man, was sentenced to 14 months in jail after pleading guilty to stalking, causing serious alarm or distress, to Tina Rashid. The stalking campaign stretched across four years and affected Ms Rashid’s work, family and social life. Ms Rashid, a senior consultant with a specialism in genital surgery for trans women, became so fearful of former patient Taylor she carried a safety alarm and paid £60-a-day for taxis to and from work. Sentencing, Judge Giles Curtis-Raleigh, sitting at Isleworth Crown Court in West London earlier this month, took what he called the “rare course” of imposing an “exceptional” restraining order without limit on Taylor contacting Ms Rashid. The stalking “fixation” culminated in a threatening message to Ms Rashid, suggesting Taylor was going to “batter” her and calling her “evil”, …

Even Hawaii was affected, with parts hit by severe flooding. Portions of the mid-South readied for late-day thunderstorms that forecasters say will spread eastward and by Monday threaten a large swath of the Eastern U.S., with mid-Atlantic states — including Washington, D.C. — most at risk for high winds and tornadoes. Successive punches of snow, wind and severe weather are “going to impact the eastern half of the United States,” AccuWeather senior meteorologist Tyler Roys said in an interview. Beyond the threat to lives and property, “whether it’s wind …

Harry Brook and Joe Root batter Sri Lanka in rare, morale-boosting series win

Harry Brook and Joe Root batter Sri Lanka in rare, morale-boosting series win

“When Brooky came in,” Root said of his captain. “He went through the gears and showed exactly what he is capable of doing. You saw his full array of shots, his ability and it’s a joy to watch from the other end.” After a difficult recent period for Brook, in which he has spoken about the need to “regain the trust” of his team-mates following his altercation with a nightclub bouncer in Wellington, to score a match-winning century in a series decider is well-timed and fitting for a player of his ability. So too is the series win a feather in the cap for his blossoming captaincy. England had not won an overseas ODI tour since beating Bangladesh in 2023 and across their last 17 ODIs they had won only five. By contrast, Sri Lanka have been close to unbeatable at home in recent years, winning 11 and drawing one of their last 12 series. “I think he’s been excellent in every aspect,” Root said of Brook’s captaincy. “He’s grown throughout the three games and …

Amber weather warnings had been issued across the UK on Thursday with Storm Goretti expected to bring a potential risk to life in parts of the country, but a rare red warning for “dangerous, stormy” winds was issued by the Met Office later for south-west England. The warning, from 4pm until 11pm on Thursday, saw “violent gusts” over two to three hours hit parts of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The Met Office meteorologist Alex …

Weather warnings as Storm Amy to batter UK this weekend | UK weather

Storm Amy, the first named storm of the season, is due to batter northern parts of the UK late on Friday and into Saturday, the Met Office has warned. Forecasters said the storm was likely to bring gale force winds of over 80mph as well as heavy rain to northern and western regions. Tom Crabtree, the Met Office deputy chief meteorologist, said there was still uncertainty about the exact track Storm Amy would take and urged people to keep an eye on forecasts. “The system will bring gale-force winds across northern and western regions, with gusts widely reaching 50 to 60 miles per hour inland in northern Britain, and potentially reaching 70 to 80 miles per hour in places,” he said. Even stronger gusts were likely on exposed coasts and hills, mainly in the north-west, he said. “Heavy rainfall is also expected, particularly over western Scotland, where totals could exceed 30-50mm in six to nine hours, increasing the risk of localised flooding. Forecasts and warnings will be updated as the situation becomes more clear.” A …
