The visit follows a warm departure from Washington, where Charles and Camilla were seen off by President Donald Trump. The arrival was marked by a positive diplomatic note, as the King landed shortly after the President announced the removal of tariffs on Scottish whisky — a gesture the Palace noted would be toasted with a traditional dram. The royal aircraft, flying both the Royal Standard and the flag of Bermuda, touched down at LF Wade International Airport at dusk. The King was met on the tarmac by Governor Andrew Murdoch alongside Premier David Burt and his wife, Kristin, while a Guard of Honour from the Royal Bermuda Regiment stood in welcome. In a Truth Social post, he warned “the U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us.” “You’ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself,” Trump wrote. It will be TERRIFIC!,” he wrote. Trump visited London in September for his second state visit, and House Speaker Mike Johnson visited the U.K. in January as part of America’s 250th anniversary celebrations. Johnson addressed the British parliament during his visit, becoming the first House speaker to do so. …

The US-Israeli attacks came without prior warning or approval by the United Nations and targeted and killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Just two months earlier, the US launched another attack, on Venezuela, in which its special forces kidnapped Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro from his residence in Caracas and transferred him to New York, where he faces criminal charges in federal court. In between these two violent attacks, US President Donald Trump withdrew from 66 international organisations, including 31 UN entities, and launched the Board of Peace, a new institution he chairs personally that he suggested might replace the UN. These and other developments in recent years demonstrate that the world order the US helped establish in 1945 no longer serves its interests. For eight decades, US treasure, diplomacy and military power sustained this architecture. Whatever one’s criticisms of how that power was exercised, the scale of the commitment was remarkable, and the US did not have to do this. It …
