From Halle Berry to Tom Hanks, Relive 10 of the Best Ever Oscar Victory Speeches

When Life is Beautiful won the Oscar for best foreign film (now called best international film), the irrepressible director, screenwriter, and star of the film reached the stage in a way that was anything but conventional: he literally climbed over the seats in the audience, passing over the heads of the celebrities and then arriving with a series of leaps on the steps, directly, into the arms of presenter Sophia Loren. Benigni’s acrobatic entrance triggered a standing ovation, but he was so overwhelmed with emotion that he did not even notice. In front of the audience, beaming, he exclaimed, “I would like to kiss you all!” In his speech, Benigni then thanked his parents who had remained in Vergaio, a small town in the province of Prato, saying fondly, “They gave me the most beautiful gift of my life: poverty.” With his usual poetry he also quoted Dante, evoking “the love that moves the sun and the other stars,” before dedicating the award to his wife and muse, Nicoletta Braschi. Toast of London’s Matt Berry reveals why he fears another revival for the wacky sitcom

Matt Berry has cast doubt on the possibility of another revival for his cult favourite sitcom Toast of London. The series followed aloof actor Steven Toast (Berry) as he navigated an often surreal distortion of London’s showbiz scene, including tedious voiceover gigs and frequent bust-ups with his bitter rival, Ray Purchase (Harry Peacock). Toast of London premiered on Channel 4 in October 2013, only a month after The IT Crowd’s final episode, which also starred Berry, making it a natural follow-up watch for fans of oddball humour. Ultimately, the show bowed out after three seasons, but received a surprise second life during the COVID-19 pandemic, when it returned with a series of lockdown-era audio skits, which paved the way for a full revival as Toast of Tinseltown. The mum-of-three notes that it’s “really hard to pick a few” Muslim female chefs on TV. “Because we don’t have longevity. I can’t even find another Muslim woman to equate myself to, or stand shoulder-to-shoulder …

We can relish in it as a return to the mid-budget thriller, with its marquee of stars – Chris Hemsworth, Halle Berry, Mark Ruffalo and Barry Keoghan – and its deployment of LA as a steel and sun-dappled chessboard, without pickling ourselves in our own nostalgia. It’s hardly timid in its references, but it’s never confined by them either. It takes a moment for writer-director Bart Layton – a documentarian working here for the first time in pure fiction by adapting a Don Winslow novella – to pin down his story. There are four major players and, at first, they intersect only by periodically passing each other on the 101 freeway. Mike Davis (Hemsworth) is a jewel thief with a conscience, who methodically strikes …

The Oscar winner, 59, played Storm, a mutant superhero with the power to control the weather, in the original X-Men movie trilogy and in the 2014 film Days of Future Past. But while some of her X-Men castmates, such as Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden and Rebecca Romijn, are set to return for the upcoming Marvel movie Avengers: Doomsday, Berry is not on the cast list. However, in a new interview with ScreenRant, she hinted that she may still appear in “other rounds” of the superhero franchise. “While I’m sad I won’t be in Doomsday this round, there are other rounds,” she said. “And I would do that in a heartbeat.” open image in …
