The Grammy-winning pop star, 32, who once labeled himself a “Jesus guy” on Instagram, performed during the first Saturday of the popular Southern California music festival. Bieber covered numerous throwbacks, including his earliest hit “Baby,” as well as newer songs off of his 2025 albums, Swag and Swag II. Katy Perry has treated her social media followers to fresh photos of herself enjoying the Coachella music festival with her new boyfriend, Justin Trudeau. Last year, the Grammy-nominated singer and former world leader made headlines the world over when it was reported that they’d been pictured on a date while she was on a Canadian stop on her world tour. While Justin Bieber could pull off a low-key headlining Coachella performance, could a female artist? That’s the latest debate making waves on social media. Following the “Daisies” singer’s Saturday night set, which was quite stripped back compared to Sabrina Carpenter’s full-on theatrical performance the night before, people have flooded social media with very candid and contrasting reactions to his concert. On one side, people are slamming Bieber’s performance, describing it as lazy and underwhelming, despite his reportedly high paycheck for the gig. They’re citing the singer’s minimal stage design and lack of backup dancers, as well as him sitting down for around 30 minutes in the middle of his set to play snippets of his older classics, such as “Baby” and “Never Say Never,” straight from YouTube on his laptop. Since this year’s awards show aired, executive producer Ben Winston has been lifting the lid on how some of its stand-out moments, including The Biebs’ performance, came to be. During an interview with Rolling Stone, he explained that each act was given an hour and a half of rehearsal time on the Grammys stage to make sure they had every detail nailed down before the ceremony – but the Canadian star only used a fraction of it. “He came to the stage, he did it once,” Ben recalled. “It was brilliant. We are seven minutes into his hour-and-a-half rehearsal. And he goes, ‘How’d it look to you? You happy with it?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, my God. It looked beautiful.
