Binman warns putting 1 thing in your bin could mean higher council tax | UK | News

A Brit bin man has warned that disposing of certain items in your bin could result in increased council tax bills. Ashley, who shares industry insights with his 153,000 TikTok followers, recently highlighted a big safety concern. In his latest video, the self-proclaimed “bin-fluencer” urged householders to avoid binning disposable vapes, batteries, lighters or any electrical equipment in their household or wheelie bins due to serious safety risks, reports the Mirror. “Don’t put vapes or batteries, or anything like that, lighters, in your bin because it can make an explosion,” warned Ashley, from south-east England. “You could kill somebody.” He continued: “Make sure if you’re gonna vape, you’re gonna go back to a vape shop, take it back with you. Or if you’re going to B&Q, you can put them, the batteries and stuff in the bin there, or supermarkets also do it. “Just don’t put them in, it’s not worth it. Stop doing it. Don’t put them in the bin.” The 37-year-old collector addressed comments from viewers who believed paying £100 monthly for council …

Two missed bin days and my garden has become a flytippers paradise | UK | News

They say there’s a fine line between sanity and madness. That line is gossamer thin. We’re a cigarette paper away from losing it. It just takes a sequence of mini misfortunes. This week, I reached my limit. And, it’s as mundane as it is maddening: not one, but two missed bin collections. Two weeks without a recycling pickup was enough to send me loop the loop. Up all night, jittering with anger and fear or confusing mix of both. Besdies the almost immediate mental health side-effects, it is genuinely horrifying how quickly the evidence stacks up. The wine bottles alone made it look like I’d thrown a couple of hen dos. But no, thats just me on a normal week. Week one was bad enough. The recycling was already full, and I had even more to put out because I’d hosted a Burns Night dinner. I’d kept back the whisky bottle and the Irn-Bru, telling myself it was fine. I only needed to wait a couple of days and I could add them once the …

Four new bins for houses – list has 37 items you CAN’T put in them | UK | News

The government has announced that individuals could be hit with fines for incorrectly disposing of six items in their bins, as a significant shift in waste management is set to take effect within months. From 31 March, waste collectors are required to separately collect food and garden waste, paper and card, all other dry recyclable material, and residual waste. This will result in households having at least four bins, potentially leading to considerable confusion. Officials have clarified that certain items, which may seem like they should fall into one of the four categories, must not be placed in the recycling bin – one list released by officials has 37 items on it which must NOT go in the bins (see below). This could leave people facing fines of up to £400. As part of the Simpler Recycling initiative, representatives from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs have stated: “We will make recycling easier: citizens will be able to recycle the same materials across England, whether at home, work or school, and will no …
