Bitter freezing conditions are set to grip the UK once again this March, with new maps showing that snow will sweep across the country. Throughout the first two months of the year, large swathes of Britain have already seen snowfall, with further flurries on the way. The snow is due to begin on Wednesday, March 4, at midnight and ease off at 6pm, lasting a total of 18 hours. Charts from forecaster WXCHARTS show that, at midnight, southern England and stretching up towards the Midlands will remain predominantly dry. Nottingham, Stoke-on-Trent, Manchester, Blackpool and Hull are all set to see snow, whilst a small pocket of snowfall will also appear over Cairngorms National Park. By 6am, the charts turn a frosty blue as plummeting temperatures sweep the length of the country. Few areas will record temperatures above -1C, with the coldest spot being Cairngorms National Park at -5C. Britain is bracing for more wintry weather as 600 miles of snow is due to blanket the country in mere days. New maps from WXCHARTS, which uses MetDesk data, have revealed snowfall is forecast for February 17 and 18 – in less than a week’s time. By 9pm next Tuesday, England is expected to see dustings from Lancaster in the North West to Dorset in the South West, with levels of around 0.75mm/hr. The following day is due to bring even more snow, stretching a whopping 600 miles from Cape Wrath in the North of Scotland to Wiltshire in South West England. Parts of the Scottish Highways and Moray could see up to 23cm by 6am next Wednesday, though England should fare slightly better. While parts of the North West are forecast to get 11cm, most of the country should only see about 3cm. Separately, the Met Office forecast for next Monday to Wednesday warns of rain in the southwest across the three-day period, with some sun breaking through. WXCHARTS weather maps for Wednesday, February 18, show most of the country blanketed. Only areas around Liverpool, the Norfolk coast and Northern Ireland look set to evade the wintry conditions. The heaviest snowfall is expected in the Scottish mountains with 89cm forecast to fall near Inverness. Meanwhile, the heaviest snowfall in England is expected in Lancashire with 13cm forecast. Around 12cm of snow is set to fall in the northeast near Newcastle, according to the maps. The snow will also coincide with below-freezing conditions across the country. The southeast of Scotland is forecast to see temperatures of -5C. Meanwhile, all of England is expected to see temperatures fall to between -2C and -3C. The Met Office forecast says snow is possible between February 10 and March 6. The weather agency’s forecast for this period says: “Predominantly cyclonic patterns are expected to dominate the UK. A whopping 26 cities across the country are likely to be impacted with the worst hit areas to be buried in 130cm of snow. Brutal WXCHARTS snow maps have turned purple, white and in places yellow, indicating that extremely heavy snow will soon make its impact known on the country. Recently, the UK has been enjoying milder conditions; however, weather maps indicate that the bone-chilling weather will soon make a dramatic U-turn. The heavy snow is set to smash into the country at midnight on Monday, February 16. The entirety of Scotland is barely visible in the weather maps, with the entire country covered by a massive wall of snow. Parts of Perth and Kinross are estimated to see an eye watering 130cm of snow, its surrounding areas will see snow depths hover between 20cm-80cm. U.S. natural gas futures are on pace for the largest weekly increase on record, according to Bloomberg data spanning more than 35 years. An Arctic air invasion of the eastern half of the US, combined with the increasing risk of a major winter storm stretching from Texas through the Mid-Atlantic and into the Northeast by this weekend, has triggered sharp upside repricing and panic-style buying in NatGas futures. As of Wednesday morning, New York NatGas futures are up another 19%. Combined with earlier gains this week, prices have jumped roughly 50% so far. If these gains are sustained through Friday, it would mark the largest weekly increase in NatGas on record, going back to 1990. The sharp repricing of NatGas futures nearly sent prices to the $5 level earlier in the trading session. Rare amber severe weather warnings for snow and ice have been issued by the Met Office threatening to cut off power for whole communities. The national weather agency said Arctic air cascading down across the nation will be a “prolonged spell of very cold weather” for the start of the New Year.  Amber warnings for snow are in place covering parts of northern and eastern Scotland from midday on Friday January 2 for 24 hours and yellow warnings for snow and ice also remain in force across parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and central and southern England. According to the Met Office, temperatures will drop well below average during the cold snap with “widespread frost and ice and an increasing risk of snow showers”. Amber warnings also mean there is a good chance that some rural communities could become cut off completely by power cuts and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.
