Bosch just unlocked more e-bike torque and power in a simple update

If you’ve been paying attention to the e-bike world lately, you’ve probably noticed a trend: riders always seem to want more power and torque. And Bosch’s latest update looks like a direct answer to that demand. The company has announced its new Performance Upgrade 2.0, a software-based boost for its popular Performance Line CX and CX-R drive units that can push torque up to 120 Nm and support levels as high as 600%.  That’s a pretty significant jump, especially considering many high-end mid-drives have hovered around the 85 Nm mark for years. But the real story here is how that power is delivered. Advertisement – scroll for more content Instead of simply cranking up output across the board, Bosch is leaning heavily into what it calls “intelligent” power delivery. The system detects when riders hit technically challenging sections – we’re talking steep climbs, tight switchbacks, or rooty trail features – and automatically delivers peak power right when it’s needed most.  In other words, you aren’t needlessly increasing power (and thus battery drain) when you don’t …

Cordless Stick Vacuum Throw Down: Bosch, Shark, Dyson (2026)

Cordless Stick Vacuum Throw Down: Bosch, Shark, Dyson (2026)

There’s a lever on the back for this compression mechanism that you manually press down and a separate button to open the dustbin at the bottom. You can use the compression lever when it’s both closed and open. It did help compress the hair and dust while I was vacuuming, helping me see if I had really filled the bin, though at a certain point it doesn’t compress much more. It was helpful to push debris out if needed too, versus the times I’ve had to stick my hand in both the Dyson and Shark to get the stuck hair and dust out. Dyson has this same feature on the Piston Animal V16, which is due out this year, so I’ll be curious to see which mechanism is better engineered. Bendable Winner: Shark Photograph: Nena Farrell If you’re looking for a vacuum that can bend to reach under furniture, I prefer the Shark to the Bosch. Both have a similar mechanism and feel, but the Bosch tended to push debris around when I was using it …

Germany’s industrial engine sputters as Bosch axes 20,000 jobs – POLITICO

Germany’s industrial engine sputters as Bosch axes 20,000 jobs – POLITICO

The move lands amid a deepening slump in the country’s automotive industry, long the backbone of German manufacturing. The sector has been shedding jobs rapidly: A 2025 study by EY found that more than 50,000 automotive positions were cut in Germany last year alone. Germany’s automotive downturn has become a wider political test for the government in Berlin and Europe more widely. Once the economy’s crown jewel, the industry is now being challenged by current policy on electric vehicles, energy costs and aggressive competition from Chinese manufacturers. As suppliers weaken, the risk is shifting from lower profits to a lasting loss of competitiveness. With layoffs rising and investment decisions being delayed, Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s government is coming under growing pressure from workers, unions and industry leaders to rethink Germany’s industrial strategy — as doubts spread domestically and across Europe about the country’s ability to remain an economic powerhouse. Bosch releases new update to make stolen e-bikes (almost) unusable

Bosch releases new update to make stolen e-bikes (almost) unusable

E-bike theft is one of those problems that never really goes away. Those of us who have been victims of it will never really forget that feeling. Of course, good locks can help, and GPS trackers might assist in getting a stolen bike back. But once a bike is stolen, the real incentive for thieves is simple: resale. And that’s exactly the problem Bosch is aiming to tackle with a new software update unveiled at CES 2026.  Bosch’s latest addition to its smart system lets owners digitally mark an e-bike – or even just its battery – as stolen using the eBike Flow app. Once that happens, the bike is effectively flagged across Bosch’s entire digital ecosystem. That includes the Flow app, Bosch dealer diagnostic tools, and Bosch’s own support infrastructure. In short, a stolen Bosch-powered e-bike becomes very hard to resell without raising red flags. It’s essentially an extension of a similar feature Bosch rolled out for its batteries last year, though this time they are thankfully not holding it back behind a paywall. …

Kodiak taps Bosch to scale its self-driving truck tech

Kodiak taps Bosch to scale its self-driving truck tech

Self-driving trucks company Kodiak AI announced on Monday it is working with global automotive supplier Bosch to develop a system of hardware and software that can give standard big rigs autonomous driving capabilities. The collaboration was announced at the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, and it could help Kodiak bring its self-driving tech to more trucks, faster. Kodiak, which is developing self-driving trucks for highway, industrial, and defense uses, has already developed and designed a self-driving system with redundant systems for braking, steering, sensors, and computers. In January 2025, Kodiak’s self-driving trucks began making driverless deliveries for Atlas Energy Solutions in the oil-rich Permian Basin of West Texas and eastern New Mexico. Kodiak has since delivered at least eight self-driving trucks to Atlas Energy as part of an initial 100-truck order under an agreement between the two companies. Kodiak has been working with Roush Industries, which was the upfitter for its driverless trucks delivered to Atlas. Now, the company, which went public via a merger with special-purpose acquisition company Ares Acquisition Corporation II in September 2025, …
