Jeremy Bowen, the corporation’s international affairs editor, also warned that the US president’s attempts to re-open the Strait of Hormuz could see a return to all-out war. His comments came as Iran’s foreign minister warned that America could be “dragged back into quagmire”. Trump launched “Project Freedom” at the weekend, vowing that the United States would “guide” stranded ships through the Strait, which has been effectively closed by Iranian attacks since the war began. That has led to a spike in oil prices and triggered fears of a global economic crisis. Two US-flagged ships are reported to have passed through the key waterway. The BBC’s international editor has called Donald Trump a liar in a lengthy on-air monologue. In an 11-minute essay on Radio 4’s flagship Today programme, Jeremy Bowen was given free rein to warn that the US president is “making it up as he goes along” in his war on Iran. He said: “Perhaps analysts and commentators have let their distaste for Donald Trump cloud their judgment. Maybe it doesn’t matter that he insults allies whose soldiers fought and died alongside Americans in other Middle Eastern wars, or that sometimes he tells lies.” He referred to the US president’s claim that Iran could have been responsible for a deadly missile strike on a girls’ school in the south of the country. “He claimed that Iran could have fired a Tomahawk missile in the attack on a school that Iran says killed more than 165 people, including many schoolgirls. Character Media and GoldenTV celebrated a year in entertainment and culture at its annual Unforgettable Awards. The event — which celebrates Asian and Pacific Islander excellence in film, TV and culture — took place Saturday at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles, bringing out a slew of big-name honorees including Hamnet director Chloé Zhao, Saturday Night Live alum Bowen Yang and KPop Demon Hunters voice actors Arden Cho and Ji-young Yoo. In a series of social media posts over the weekend, comedians Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers apologized for their comments on the Senate campaign of Rep. Jasmine Crockett. The hosts of the “Las Culturistas” podcast discouraged their listeners from donating to the Texas Democrat’s campaign in their most recent episode, which touched on Democratic politics and the 2028 presidential election. Bowen Yang has finally explained why he bowed out of Saturday Night Live. Marcello Hernández is sharing his thoughts after his former Saturday Night Live co-star Bowen Yang exited the NBC sketch comedy series at the end of last year.
