Fury calls out Joshua after points victory over Makhmudov

There’s nothing more predictable than a boxer retiring for the umpteenth time only to step back into the ring. So it’s no shock to see Tyson Fury back again, talking a good game about getting his world-title belts back. The former heavyweight champion is back and set to fight Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this evening. And, it’s no surprise to hear him being optimistic. “Whoever has the belts I want to get them back. I was undefeated for 17 years and took it for granted,” he said at Friday’s weigh-in in London. “I had two losses in a row and I’m not the hunted now but I’m the hunter. It feels great to be the young, fresh hunter again. “I want to make a statement, so I’ve come in nice and light and lean.” The defeats he talks about are the back-to-back loses against Oleksandr Usyk, both in 2024. Before then he was unbeaten and he says a decent time in the sun in Thailand was all he needed to get back …

Wilder beats Chisora via split decision after gruelling contest

Wilder beats Chisora via split decision after gruelling contest

John Fury made headlines by claiming son Tyson has not been the same since his trilogy of fights against Deontay Wilder, but the same can be said of the American. Wilder, a former WBC heavyweight world champion, has not beaten a ranked opponent since Luis Ortiz in 2019, losing four of his last six fights. Three of those were knockout defeats, and though The Bronze Bomber knocked out Tyrrell Herndon last June that contest was a glorified warm-up. By contrast, Wilder’s opponent Derek Chisora has defied the odds, his age, and his slugging style of boxing to topple Gerald Washington, Joe Joyce and Otto Wallin in his last three fights. Chisora claims that tonight’s bout at London’s O2 Arena will be his last as a professional boxer, but the 42-year-old has said that previously before returning to the ring. Wilder and Chisora have been in the top 10 of the heavyweight division for years but this is the first time they will touch gloves. By coincidence, it is both men’s 50th professional fight. Chisora’s record …

Itauma proves credentials for world title shot with brutal knockout of Franklin

Itauma proves credentials for world title shot with brutal knockout of Franklin

Even considering Itauma’s generational talent and rapid rise, his target of becoming heavyweight boxing’s youngest world champion has proved wildly optimistic. Indeed, that particular ship has sailed now that Itauma is older than the mark set by Mike Tyson – 20 years, four months and 23 days – in 1986. Comparisons have been drawn between Itauma and Tyson, given their power and success at a young age, though the former moved to distance himself from such discourse this week, saying: “I guess we’re kind of a polar opposite… We both just love knockouts.”  And while murmurings of potential fights against Filip Hrgovic, Murat Gassiev, Lawrence Okolie and Oleksandr Usyk continue to swirl, Itauma has insisted that his focus is firmly fixed on Franklin. Speaking in his pre-fight press conference, the Chatham fighter said: “I have a serious opponent in Jermaine Franklin. We’ve asked for this fight [for] a year and a half, or something like that, so now we’ve got it. I feel this is the kind of the final piece to the puzzle.” In his …

Six-week boxing routine lowers blood pressure in young adults

Six-week boxing routine lowers blood pressure in young adults

A heavy bag swings, gloves snap against leather, and the rhythm builds, three minutes on, one minute off. After six weeks of this pattern, something quieter changed inside the body. There was a drastic decrease in blood pressure. That is the result of a randomized controlled trial conducted by scientists from the University of Texas in El Paso that examines short-term boxing training and how it changes the cardiovascular profile of young adults who have been found to be pre-hypertensive. “Hypertension is the foremost cause of heart disease and stroke and is also the leading cause of death in young people, and most do not know they have it,” says Alvaro Gurovich (PhD), the lead author of the study. Peripheral (a,d) and central blood pressure (b,c,e,f) changes following 6 weeks of boxing training in individuals with elevated blood pressure or stage 1 hypertension. Live boxing tonight | What live boxing is on TV and streaming?

Live boxing is one of the few sporting occasions that can still transcend sport and grip the nation for up to 12 rounds. A new year has brought fresh excitement in the heavyweight division, with Tyson Fury set to step back in the ring in April after confirming his return from retirement, which has breathed fresh life into hopes of a long-awaited showdown with Anthony Joshua. Though Fury’s return is still six weeks out, boxing fans won’t be short of entertainment this weekend. Conor Quinn and Jake Dodd face off in Belfast on Friday and Constantin Ursu and Owen Cooper battle for the vacant British and Commonwealth welterweight titles on Saturday. Wood vs Warrington 2 LIVE: Boxing fight stream, latest updates and undercard results

He followed in the footsteps of tonight’s opponent, Warrington, in trying to take down the reigning champion Anthony Cacace, who first defeated Warrington before he swatted Wood aside by TKO. Wood had knocked out Warrington at the Sheffield Arena in 2023, down on all three judges’ scorecards before landing a right hook that felled the ‘Leeds Warrior’. Warrington beat the referee’s count, but saw the contest waved off in the seventh, controversially and to his horror. Source link
