Leno saves Fulham in goalless West London derby at European hopefuls Brentford

April 18 : Goalkeeper Bernd Leno kept alive Fulham’s faint European hopes with a standout 90th-minute save in a goalless Premier League clash at high-flying rivals Brentford on Saturday. A West London derby that could have turbo-charged either side’s hopes of a place in European competition ultimately fell flat at the Gtech Community Stadium. Brentford, now on five successive league draws for the first time since 1957, missed a chance to leapfrog Chelsea for sixth place while Fulham stayed 12th pending later fixtures after a game they really needed to win. Only six points separate Chelsea (48) and Newcastle United (42) in 14th place, with Brentford and Fulham (45) having five matches remaining and most of their rivals still with a game in hand and everything to play for. Brentford, now level on points with Chelsea but with an inferior goal difference, could have nicked the three points but for Leno’s brilliant effort in keeping out Dango Ouattara as the clock ticked into stoppage time. Leno had not had much to keep him busy until …

Brentford pub slams ‘ridiculous’ fee to put advertising board in own beer garden

Brentford pub slams ‘ridiculous’ fee to put advertising board in own beer garden

A publican has hit back at Hounslow Council after being told he must pay a ‘ridiculous’ fee to put an advertising board in his own beer garden. Scott Illman, who runs the Magpie and Crown on Brentford High Street, will need to cough up £260 annually under current legislation – despite the pub sitting on land owned by developer Ballymore. The 51-year-old believes the request is unjust as his income has been significantly affected by the adjacent authority-backed Brentford Project. He told MyLondon: “I’ve had hoardings around me since 2020 and at no point did anyone say ‘You know what, here’s a discount on your business rates.’ “They’ve taken away rear access to the pub, and we still can’t use one of the paths leading to us because of works on the left-hand side. We were surrounded in shadow all the time and the beer garden was so noisy. I was fuming when I read the letter.” Artist’s impression of how regenerated Brentford High Street will look -Credit:Ballymore A notice issued by Hounslow Council on …

Albanian burglars chased by ex-Aston Villa and Brentford player jailed for break-in spree | UK News

Albanian burglars chased by ex-Aston Villa and Brentford player jailed for break-in spree | UK News

Two Albanian burglars have been jailed for 56 months each after targeting seven properties, including the home of a footballer. Denis Puka, 28, Erisjan Laska, 29, and a third unidentified man equipped themselves with masks, tools and walkie-talkies to go on a string of break-ins last year. Their operation had been “sophisticated and well-planned”, Judge Steven Everett said. The trio booked an Airbnb room in Warrington to use as a base for their offending. From there, they travelled into Cheshire in a Seat Leon car fitted with three false registration plates. Among the properties they targeted between 5-7 June was that of Scott Hogan, 33, a former Aston Villa, Brentford and Birmingham City footballer who now plays for MK Dons. On 7 June, he was woken up by torchlight shining though his bedroom window at around 11.30pm. During the attempted burglary, Mr Hogan’s then-pregnant wife and his young daughter were in the house Image: Scott Hogan said the incident had led to ‘many sleepless nights full of stress and anxiety’.
